the one thing that haunts me when I think abt the iron lung movie is that. okay right the ship was wielded shut, but it was still leaking. and when Simon said that "this isn't condensation I know what condensation is" is immediate thought was what if it's blood plasma. and it got me thinking, the lung is hot, it's fucking boiling hot in there, it's leaking blood, there's plasma on the pipes, it must reek of rust and blood. it must smell nauseatingly of blood. and he can't even get rid of the smell because there's no way to wash himself nor any way to remove the blood from the lung itself. The smell of wet and warm blood, rust and iron was just there the entire time and alongside the hallucinations of air deprivation it must've made the remaining air even thicker and more dizzying than it already was
