Hello friends

I am back, but only to announce that after two months away and time to think, I’ve decided that this blog is going on a permanent hiatus.

I’ve been focusing majorly on self-care this summer, and as I’ve been going through the good days and the bad, my main priority has been to take care of myself and shed the things that have been weighing me down. I think part of that self-care is to say goodbye to this blog. I’ll leave it as it is for posterity’s sake, and because it is full of such fond memories, from London to BSG to Les Mis, but I begin my senior year of college tomorrow, and with it, I desire to start a new (blogging) chapter, as it were. So you may see me around on this site, but for now, it is time to say goodbye.

Best wishes to you all on all of your endeavors. You’ll be amazing.

I might take a hiatus? I feel like I do this every summer, and I think it's always for the same reason: summer has lots of idle time. Idle time means time in which I sink into my own brain and feel anxious and disgusting, especially since I need to be doing work this summer. I also want to get back into LA, really feel present in the place I'm actually in (instead of getting caught in sadness of wishing I was elsewhere, which is helpful to a point and then just counter-productive). I think it will help me control my mood swings, because staying on the computer past the point I know I should be on is part of the problem. And most frustratingly, I know how easy it can be for me to get out of my own head if I eliminate/minimize quagmire places from my daily routine. So tumblr always goes.

I keep having terrible mood swings where I go from okay to irritated and rude (while realizing that I am both irritated and rude and want to stop being irritated and rude) to happy and content to just sad. And I think sad and disengaged is the baseline emotion. I know things are good and the reasons for being sad and happy and everything else but I feel like I can't control my moods and I don't like this one bit. How do I stop.

I just remembered there was one day that Shaun and I went to the Borough Market and these people on a bicycle-bar (barcycle?) passed us wearing viking helmets and every single person on this road stopped to stare at them as they went shrieking and yodeling past and then carried on as if nothing had happened.

I just remembered that I went on a walk with my dad within a few days of returning from London, and of course we got to talking about how much I've changed and adjusting to being back and so on.

My dad stood in the front doorway and just listened, his hands behind his back, as I talked in a croaky voice about how valuable being in London was to me as a person, and how the person I became and have been shaping into since college and forever, really, is suddenly someone that I want to be and that I don't want to lose. I, suddenly, am someone of worth.

The front door was still open, just barely, and was letting in afternoon sunlight and warmth. It made everything feel even hazier than usual, like dust on a camera lens.

My dad shifted his feet, swaying slightly, and looked at the floor and then back at me, as he always does before he gives sage advice.

"When I was 16," and I already knew where this story was going (it's one of my favorites), "and I went on that biking trip across the country with the two Garys," he shook his head, "when I came home... my dad said to me when I came home, 'You never really came back from that trip.'"

He smiled and his eyes crinkled with the memory. He shook his head again and looked at me: "You never really come back."

I was telling a family friend about my time in London and after talking about how great my experience was in the city and such she asks,

"Have a boyfriend?"

to which I should've lied but said, "Yes"

to which she asked, "So if all of this pans out, where will you live?"

I explained that I'm planning to move back to London anyway because grad school and job opportunities there are right up my alley, I have a lot of things I'm looking at that are really exciting that fit with what I've wanted to do for about a year and a half now, I'm planning on working in LA theatre for a year to build up my resume before applying to grad school programs, etc etc to which she asks

"All of this for a boy?"

to which I said, "No, all of this for me."
