Mikayla was overwhelmed by the sheer number of people who had swarmed the fairgrounds. She'd expected it to be a large event, but this was almost reminiscent of New York around the end of the year as people flooded in for New Years. She slipped into what looked to be a marketplace of sorts with various vendors with wares to sell, and sighed as the noise level went down significantly. She wandered through and slowed as she approached a table littered with various crystals on their own as well as crafted into fine pieces of jewelry. "These are beautiful," she spoke, looking up to the woman manning the booth. "I'm surprised you still have so many. I'd think you'd be sold out already if everyone saw these. This light pink one... what is this crystal?"

"Be cool, be cool." Will took a breath as he parked his car, knowing that he had set up a particularly interesting night for himself. He could have tried a dating app but he knew that it would drag out the process and likely end up with someone who would inevitably ghost him. So he went a route he had only gone a few times before through a friend from back in Vegas and it would all mean he didn't have to attend this benefit put on by his father's friends alone. He spotted her as soon as he walked to the front of the building, a bit of breath when he reminded himself that it was essentially a fake date. A business transaction. But that didn't mean he wasn't taken aback by how gorgeous she was. "Luna?" His smile grew slowly as she turned towards him and the recognition was apparent on her face so it put him at ease. Standing just inside the lobby of the building, Mikayla gave her red lips one last check in her compact before slipping it back into her clutch. It was the first time she'd felt like she'd be able to fake it convincingly enough to get through the evening since Adam left and her stomach was a bundle of nerves as a result. Events like these usually involved a lot of small talk and plenty of questions, which meant needing to be on her toes all night so she wouldn't slip up on her persona. She hoped the details they'd gone over with their story of how they'd explain how they'd met were easy enough to recall in the moment.

Hearing her pseudonym, she glanced over and a warm smile came to her face. "It's nice to finally meet you in person, Will. I wasn't waiting too long, don't worry. It gave me a chance to get familiar with the surroundings and the types of people that'll be at this event, so I don't mind," she explained with a slight chuckle, turning to face him and take in his appearance. He didn't seem like the type who would have a hard time getting a date, so her curiosity was certainly piqued, though it would be a question to wait for another time if she had the opportunity. "Well, that's all you really need for a good night, right? That and good company." She casually slipped her hand into his, a silence confirmation that she was ready. "Do you do these sort of things often then? Is it for work or a personal obligation?"

Hernando shook his head as he took a few more bites of his food as if he needed to catch his breath from thinking about how wrong his niece was. "His shit is his shit, it still makes him shitty for going about it the way he did and dragging you into it but you aren't some person who's just supposed to get crumbs, okay? That's not like your destiny. I know shit's been rough but we're not in survival mode like we used to be." At least not when it came to Penny and her being sick. He knew they had gotten through the worst of it and Mikayla didn't have to take all of this on her own anymore. She never really did but he wasn't about to get into all of that either. "I know the last thing you want to hear is there's plenty of fish in the sea but the world is way bigger than you think, amor. And this isn't the end for you. There's so much out there, so many people out there. And I know the person who will treat you better than ever before is out there. A soft smile came to her face at Hernando's affirmations. After having been in what he called survival mode for so long -- practically her whole life it seemed like -- it was difficult not falling back into these old habits and mindsets. She'd internalized the belief that if anyone were to find out what she did, who she really was, that they'd see her as dirty or used goods, but it had never changed the way he had looked at her. He'd been the proud father she'd never had growing up and she couldn't thank him enough for not treating her any differently after discovering her other life.

"You're right," she said with a slight nod, her shoulders relaxing some as she let out a sigh. "It's hard to not see myself as being... undesirable for a relationship, I guess, when you end up getting abandoned that way. I know it's not why he left, though, so I need to remember that it's not the end of the world." She looked across at him, her smile growing some. "Thank you. Now enough about my love life... Is there anyone I need to be interrogating on your behalf for you?"

He moved through the crowded casino with ease. At this point, Sullivan was convinced he could navigate the building blindfolded. He spent so much of his time inside of it, might as well be his home away from home. The restaurant was at the back of the establishment, and though they were settled in a small town, the building was anything but tiny. "I do miss Vegas, but I appreciate the change of scenery." He commented with a nod. Small towns were boring compared to the city life he had grown accustomed to, but he had been brought here on a job. It wouldn't be long before they were moving to open another casino in a second location. "Not much to do around here. Or at least, there wasn't until we opened up Two Kings." Despite owning a casino, he didn't gamble. It never was something that appealed much to him.

"That's fair. When you come from a big city, places like this feel... dead? Probably not the best choice of word considering everything happening around town lately..." She scrunched her nose. They finally reached the restaurant, slowing to a stop outside of the entrance, and she flashed him a grateful smile. "Thank you for helping me find this place. If you say the food will be worth it, I'm sure I won't be disappointed."

"Definitely possible, probably makes the most sense anyway. It's a lot to deal with. Especially when you're also dealing with school and shit. Just know that not everything has to happen all at once, alright? Make sure you take time to catch your breath and shit, you're gonna age yourself before you need to." Though he supposed in many ways she had. When he had found out about her escorting, it had hit him the hardest because he realized just how much she felt like she had to take on her own, especially when her mother had been sick. It had broken his heart, not that he wasn't a man who was supportive of all sex workers, but seeing his niece become somebody else in those moments had reminded him just how much was beyond one's control, especially his. "Yeah give yourself some time to think about it and feel it out. But check in with her a bit at least, yeah? Just let her know you're good and you'll talk soon or something so she can stop pacing and shit. The mention of Adam made the smile fade from her face and she averted her gaze, the wound of his leaving in the way he did still too fresh to put up any kind of facade that she was over it. "No, you don't need to do that," she spoke, her voice quiet. "It's... complicated. He'd been dealing with pain from losing his leg, which led to him overusing his pain medication. He's getting help." It was true, but she didn't feel the need to detail how she hadn't found out about any of it from him directly but instead having found a note in his apartment. "I want the best for him, even if that means it's not with me. I'll be okay." She looked over at him and gave a slight shrug. "Things like that don't usually work out for people like me, so I can't say I'm all that surprised. Gives me more time to focus on this thing with mom."

Glancing up from the book she was reading, her eyes met the gorgeous ones of Mikki. They were a deep brown in color, soulful and bright; Christine often wondered what her own looked like to those around her. A small smile rose to her face at the greeting and she kept her finger pressed between the pages, sitting the book in their lap but keeping their page marked. "I was for awhile, yes. There's a new branch of the hotel opening soon and it required some traveling."

Gesturing to the open chair, she smiled and nodded. "Of course, you can sit; I could use the company." Tossing her hair over one shoulder, she sat back into her own chair and focused on her company. "How have you been?" Best to ask now and true and keep the conversation centered on Mikki or other topics. That way she wouldn't have to admit how she'd been.

Mikki asked, taking a seat in the empty chair and setting down her purse beside it. Her mom had similar concerns with renovating and opening up the B&B in town, but with a major chain like the one Christine ran, she wasn't sure if there was that same concern.

"I'm okay. Things have been a little crazy around here, so I'm just trying to take it one day at a time." She offered a small smile, glancing up towards the desk at the front where she was so used to seeing her ex only to find an unfamiliar face behind it, her smile fading. "I think I briefly mentioned something developing with a friend of mine?" she began, looking back towards Christine. "It didn't end up working out. This is my first time back in here in a while, too. What are you reading?"

Upon moving to Tonopah Valley, Mikayla made one of the biggest decisions of her adult life: purchasing this quaint bungalow-style home with a view of one of the rivers in town that empties into Lake Meade in her backyard. It took a while for her to determine what style she would use to decorate the home, and rather than picking any distinct one, she simply filled it with things she liked and that brought her a sense of peace and comfort, plenty of wood accents, warm lights, natural sunlight from the many windows around the home, and the occasional greenery to add pops of color throughout. The style would be considered earthy and romantic.

The most important part of her home, however, is the third bedroom. She put together a ton of bookshelves in her first few weeks, lining nearly every vertical surface with one, so she could have her own little library. It's the first time she's ever been able to put all of her books on display instead of having to part with them due to lack of space or keep them tucked away in storage. She uses the seat beneath the window as a reading nook when she has spare time, her writing desk sitting across the room covered in notes, both typed and handwritten.

One of the downsides of a small town was the limited options for purchasing new books. She could have ordered it somewhere online, but there was something about the coziness of a bookstore, running your fingers against the book's spine and pages, a satisfaction one couldn't get from buying online. Being in the Book Nook now that Adam was gone, though, it didn't feel quite the same.

She made her way down one of the aisles, browsing the titles within the self-help section. She tended to stick to fiction, but if there was any kind of advice she could find for how to get over heartbreak, she was sure it'd be here. As she turned the corner, she spotted a familiar face seated in the reading area by the unlit fireplace. "Hey," she greeted as she made her way over to Christine. "I haven't seen you in a while. Were you away on a business trip?" She motioned to the empty seat beside hers. "Can I sit or are you busy?"

Mikayla hadn't heard from Dante since New Years Eve. She had a suspicion that The Enterprise had been behind the shooting that happened, but with how surprised everyone had been that it happened, she wasn't so sure. The only thing she did know was she'd been handed off to a different handler any time she needed to make a report on information. She'd met Nesrin a few times before, so she wasn't too surprised when she'd gotten the instruction to meet with the woman. She offered up a small smile once she closed the door behind her. "I've been better, but I'm sure my personal life's not really what you're worried about," she remarked with a half-hearted chuckle. "Um... I've never shot a gun before. I don't know if I'd be any good at it."

Sully didn't have small towns. He just never saw the appeal in them. However, Tonopah would have been the perfect place for The Enterprise to get their footing, and to lay low. It was why he agreed to move and open up Two Kings. That was until Giovani and Dante went rogue. "I'd say it counts." He said with a nod. "Cheap land, and less competition. Hard to beat out a deal like that."

"That makes sense. I think a lot of people also appreciate not having to drive all the way to Vegas to pay an arm and a leg to gamble when they can do it right in their backyard, too," she replied with a small laugh. Gambling had never been her thing -- probably because she had little extra income to risk for most of her life -- but it was such a big deal in the area that she almost felt like she was missing out. "Do you ever miss the big city, though? It was a culture shock moving out this way, but I kind of like the change of pace. Reminds me to slow down and appreciate the day to day instead of thinking so far ahead."

"Eh I have my moments," he said softly, mostly just trying to get her to laugh and he could tell how unwilling she was to admit it. Hernando's eyes widened for a moment if only because he knew how hard it was for him when he had seen her that night. Both because of what she was doing and because it meant that now she would know a bit about who he really was. What he really had done in his life. Still, she only knew of his involvement with Los Santos but he would hate for her to know just how deep his involvement went, just how many people's blood he had on his hands. He was afraid that if she did know she would never look at him the same again and he didn't think he could take that. "I mean....I think this secret is a little different than her secret, it might just give her a heart attack. But if that's what you want to lead with, all cards on the table then I wouldn't say no. But I think you could also just tell her how you feel overall, you know? The same way you told me. You gotta trust that she's gonna hear you out and you're gonna give her a chance to be honest with you too. I think she needs that. She's held a lot in for a long time, you know? You know how many times I wish she had told people to fuck off and she didn't? But anyway, thank you, for sharing all of that with me. Did she feel better or worse? It felt like a loaded question, given everything. There was the guilt of being upset with her mother when she was holding a secret of her own balanced with the feeling she was justified in that feeling for having been left in the dark. At least she had had the chance to talk it out with someone who knew everything and didn't have to hold anything back. "A bit of both, if that's even possible," she replied with a faint laugh, propping her hand onto her palm as her elbow settled on the tabletop. "I'd feel like a hypocrite for not telling her, but at the same time... where do I draw the line? I don't want to upset her either. It's tough." She sighed. "I'll have to sleep on it, I guess, and see what I feel in the morning. Thank you." She smiled across the way. "For always being there to listen and for making delicious food for me. It's hard to truly be upset when you've got a full belly."
