Quick update:
My last recorded weight was 193lbs. I had a quick doctors appointment today and weighed in at 184lbs. That’s 114lbs down since my surgery on December 30th.

On the left is me on December 29th, 2016 (the day before getting my sleeve. On the right is me today May the fourth be with you.
and most importantly, love your body
My very first before and after picture. It was probably about a month and a half post op. I'd lost about 35-40 lbs
My pre-op vsg story
So, in the beginning of 2016 I had a check up with my primary doctor. When I stepped on the scale at the beginning of the appointment it read a number I wasn't prepared for, 283 pounds. Even at that point, I didn't realize how big I had physically gotten, and even though I was shocked, as the months went on I didn't do much to change that number. I kept eat fast food and as much of it as I want. I drank Dr. Pepper or Pepsi constantly and in a sense given up on myself. I had a coworker who had gotten bariatric surgery in the early spring of 2016, and he was constantly singing it's praises. He spoke so highly of it that it peaked my interest. So I would ask him questions about it on breaks. Again, he spoke so highly of it I thought it was something that could help me. My only reservation about definitively making my decision to go through with the surgery was I was worried what my family and friends would think, so I didn't tell any of them it was something I wanted to look into for months. The first person in my family I remember telling I was thinking about getting vsg done, was my mom. And to my surprise she was supportive and said that if I think it will help me become healthier then I should look into it. One thing about my mom, she is very open. She has a big mouth and tells, specifically my dad, everything. So it wasn't long before she told him I wanted to have the sleeve. A little bit of background, my dad was very obese, well over 400 pounds. But he has the strongest will power of anyone I have ever met, and he was able to loose weight by dieting and exercise. He went from being 400+ pounds of fat to being about 280 of pure muscle and was actually body building for a while. So I was very scared of his reaction to my want to "take the easy way out". Luckily, he's also one of the kindest people I've ever met, and he told me "the surgery and recovery itself sound difficult. But I want you to be happy and healthy, and I think if you want to do this, you should." So very shortly after telling my amazingly supportive family I made an appointment with a bariatric specialist to see what I would need to qualify. Luckily, I didn't have any immediate health issues so I was physically and mentally cleared for surgery. And because of my BMI was at a certain point my insurance covered everything. (My BMI was like 35). So I had my first appointment in mid November, had to do a few things before we could schedule surgery. 1. I had to get medical clearance from my primary doctor. 2. I had to get psychiatric clearance. 3. I had to see a nutritionist. 4. I had to get blood work and a EKG. I passed all of them with flying colors, and then I started a 2 week low carb diet. Which was insanely difficult and I did terrible with, and the last day was only clear liquids. On December 30th I had to be at the hospital by 9 am. They got me hooked up to an IV and started me on liquids and medicine. My parents were with me and even though they had been super supportive they kept telling me that I didn't have to do this. That I was okay regardless. But I was adiment and set in my ways. And I got wheeled off to anesthesia.
