The twins are fighting again.

It’s been more frequent lately.

Arguments that used to blow over in five minutes now stretch for hours, tempers shortened by the pressure to succeed, constant comparisons, and the unspoken fear that one of them might finally pull ahead of the other.

And somehow, you’re always stuck in the middle.

One is your best friend.

The other is your boyfriend.

It makes every argument feel like a lose-lose situation.

You know them both too fucking well.

You know which buttons they’re trying to push, what insecurities they’re projecting onto each other.

You know exactly how much they both care about each other beneath all this bullshit.

Still, watching them tear into each other is exhausting.

Especially when Atsumu storms past you without so much as a glance and Osamu goes quiet in that way that means he’s even angrier than he looks.

You sigh, feeling hopeless and a little pathetic.

You love them both so much. You just wish, for once, they’d stop making you choose sides.

“What’s going on with you two?” you quietly murmur once the blonde angrily slams the front door shut.

Osamu glances at you before he rolls his tense shoulders, eyebrows pinched tight.

There’s a long stretch of tense silence before he looks at you again, “He’s in love with ya”

And the silence that follows makes your ears ring.

You blink at him once, then twice, before frowning yourself, “..What?”

“He’s mad I got ya”

Your eyebrows knit together, confusion slowly settling in, “Samu-“

“He’s always been like that”, he snips, “gets somethin’ in his head and suddenly it’s gotta be his”

You stare at him, mind struggling to keep up.

“…And you think.. he’s in love with me?”

“I think he’s mad I got somethin he can’t have”, comes the flat reply.

There’s something so bitter about the way he says it, not toward you, but toward the situation.

Toward Atsumu.

Toward the fact that even now, in their adulthood, he’s still being dragged into a stupid competition he never asked to be part of.

“I’m tired of it,” he admits quietly.

And for the first time, you realize this fight was never really about you.

It was about two brothers who’ve spent their entire lives trying to prove which one of them deserves to come out on top.

And Osamu is just tired of feeling like the losing dog.

You take him to lunch one day and keep getting interrupted by Osamu, the new bane of Iwa’s existence, and he feels his eye twitch as Osamu shoots you a real easy grin and a little wink that’s got you giggling a little too hard for his taste.

The rooms hot, uncomfortably so.

Iwa sighs loudly, sprawled across the floor like a starfish, positioning himself directly in front of the shitty little fan you two bought at the market.

It rattles pathetically, blowing out air that’s barely cooler than the room itself.

“This is so fucked” he mumbles, sweat slicking down his bare chest.

You groan loudly beside him, cool, wet towel draped across your chest.

“Let’s just get the ac fixed”, you whine loudly, “I’ll pay for it”

His head snaps towards you, frowning deeply, “No” comes the immediate response

“Haji-“

“It’s the principle of it!” he immediately defends, pushing himself onto one elbow, “The landlord is responsible for-“

“Oh my GOD,” you interrupt, throwing an arm over your face.

He scowls, “What?”

“You’re sweating like you’re dying and you’re still worried about principles?!” you hiss

“It’s called having standards!”

“It’s called being stubborn!”

“Well sorry but I’m not letting some asshole charge us for something he’s legally supposed to fix!”

You stare at him.

He stares back.

The fan rattles between you.

Neither of you speaks for a moment.

“You’re so fucking stubborn” you mutter, pulling the wet towel over your face.

He rolls his eyes, “Whatever”

You two lay in the heat for a quiet moment before you quietly murmur, “..you’re really annoying”

He gives you the tiniest, smugest smile, “And yet you still wanna live with me?”

You peek over your towel to stare at him for a long moment before sighing and shifting closer, stealing half of the fan’s pathetic breeze, “Somethin like that”

Iwa’s smiles softly, rolling his eyes before stealing your cool towel and laying back down, “Lucky me, I guess”

You simply hum, too hot to fight back.

And somehow, between the shitty fan, the broken AC, and the miserable summer heat, the room feels just a little less unbearable.

Mostly because you’re in it together.
