I’ve yet to see a single defense against being called cisgender that doesn’t boil down to transphobia

First off distinction exists for a reason. Cis women will present symptoms of a condition (both physical and mental) differently than trans women, and they will often also have different treatment plans. Same for trans men vs cis men. They also have different lived experiences and face different forms of oppression and discrimination

“I’m not a cis man/woman, I’m just a man/woman” I’m not a trans man, I’m just a man 🥹🥹🥹 and suddenly 99% of the people that say this are jumping to claim it’s different because they don’t actually think I’m a man like they claim they do. When you just say ‘men’ for example, you’re including trans men because trans men are also men. Trying to claim that trans people should get the trans label and cis people should just be people is also claiming that trans people are not the gender they identify as. It’s like saying “I’m just a person, and tall people are tall people”. Or even better, “I’m just a person, and black people are black people”. See how it’s exclusionary? Put any other adjectives in front and it sounds wrong, so why is trans the exception? And also those other adjectives have a distinction for a reason as well, more specifically ones for minorities such as black, disabled, etc, but distinguishing between tall and short women for example is also important. I hope that makes sense lmao

The people who try to compare it to a slur also seem to think that ‘trans’ is a slur, so that’s self-explanatory

“We can respect your ‘identity’, so why can’t you respect ours?” (And yes they tend to put ‘identity’ in quotes.) I’m still trans whether or not I want to be called that, aside from going unlabeled but I just personally don’t want to because I prefer labels (no hate to people that don’t like labels, I just find it easier to explain with labels). And then they bring up transphobic arguments like “well then I can say the same about trans women being men despite not wanting to be called men” and that’s all not even worth addressing with how dumb it is

You don’t have to be called ‘cis’ every waking moment, as the distinction isn’t important for every mention of men or women. No one is trying to take away your gender. It’s just an adjective, you’re fine. It can’t hurt you.
