SANTA MARIA DEL FIORE
So something about the Duomo Santa Maria Del Fiore, we don’t actually know how the dome was built.
The dome’s architect, Filippo Brunelleschi, was very secretive about its construction and never left any blueprints behind. We can only speculate as to how exactly it was done by observing the dome itself. Why all this really matters in the first place is because there was no freestanding scaffolding or any centering support used in its construction, the use of flying buttresses was expressly forbidden by the city. The dome was built in a manner that it can support itself.
