Jason turned his head to see a small guy with black hair pointing at him. He was wearing a light grey hoodie and jeans.
“Your ancestor has been haunting me for MONTHS!” Danny tilted his head, looking at Hood’s chest. “They weren’t wrong, you really do need to see a ghost doctor. What the fuck is up with your ecto?”
“My what?” Red Hood said. “ are you the guy people around here have been talking about? The one who can talk to the dead?”
“Alright, look. There’s this couple that looks old money and swears they are your grandparents and have said that if Bruce acts up, you are to ask Alfred where we hid the Doll. It was a vampire themed baby doll that someone gave us as a christening gift that he hated it.”
Red Hood perked up.
“If it works, what kind of alcohol should I pour one for them?
Danny’s eyes half closed and he looked through the Hood for half a second.
“Thomas says a nice smooth bourbon; he has a bottle tucked in a crevice in the back left hand corner of the wine cellar behind the empty crate. Martha asks instead of pouring a drink down to go to waste, that you pour out…Tim’s coffee?”
He froze as the words registered. “That’s a horrible thing to do to someone!” Danny argued, but Hood’s whole body seemed to perk up. I have Grandma Martha’s consent to mess with Tim’s coffee addiction? Best. Grandparents. Ever!”
As soon as Jason asks Alfred about the doll? He's going to insist Jason spill how he knew.
Jason: So. This guy, bout my age. Timmers build. Says the dead won't leave him alone. Accosted me on patrol to pass on Grandma and Gramps message. So where's the doll? Also, Gramps says to pour out one of his hidden bourbon?
Alfred: Master Jason. You will track that young man down. I need to have words with your Grandparents about Master Bruce!
Jason: That's fair. So, the creepy doll?
Alfred: I shall fetch it out once you drag the young man over to meet me.
I imagine Danny being dragged by Jason to the manor, shouting, kicking and punching because he's not going inside a mansion that screams to him 'house of another fruitloop'. He would only reluctantly enter the house after being semi-convinced by Thomas and Martha. Half convinced that the owner of the house is not a fruitloop after eating what dish Alfred served to him.
Jason watched as Danny squirmed, flushed bright red, and glared just to the side of him. What on Earth were his Grandparents saying to him??
Danny: I am NOT passing on your flirty love notes!
Jason immediately began to choke on his water. Excuse him, what?
Jason: Flirty love notes?
Danny: Apparently Mr Alfred was their partner. I am happy to pass on love notes. BUT! They were trying to flirt! No! Weird! They love you very much Mr Alfred. And feel very, very bad about leaving you to raise the... This is verbatim. Don't blame me. 'Irresponsible, stubborn, fucking brat of ours.'.
Alfred: I have so missed Martha and her way with words. I still love them dearly.
Danny cooed and listened to Martha and Thomas for a bit. Nodding randomly.
Danny: They love you very much. And they want you to hold on as long as you can. They don't want you to join them any time soon. Thomas says, 'Our brat of a son still needs you. Don't you dare join us just yet.' Martha is agreeing. OMA I am NOT passing that on!!! I do NOT need to know!!!
Jason: They bein' flirty again?
Danny: Uh huh. Apparently Mr Alfred was quite the stud in his younger years. Which uh, I did not need to know!!!
Alfred: I have missed their irreverent ways. Master Jason, do not be fooled. Your Grandparents may have been the shining jewel of Gotham society. But at home? They were far worse than Master Bruce could ever hope to be.
Jason: Does B know you were dating his parents?
Danny: Martha says he is old enough now to be told. And that Mr Alfred REALLY should have at least laid out some clues a while back. Though, I'm not entirely sure why a riddle filled easter egg hunt for the truth would be 'enrichment at it's finest', for Bruce.
Jason and Alfred watched as Danny nodded and chatted to the air for a moment. Before looking at Jason and sighing.
Danny: So. Got anywhere in this place I can summon a ghost Dr? They want you seen to. They are with holding more blackmail, which they will pass over if you agree.
Alfred: Master Jason. Did you neglect to mention something!
Danny: Did he not mention that? Martha and Thomas hunted me down for that. And then stick around to hush over him. And hand over blackmail.
Alfred: Well. I see. What sort of space is needed for this summoning? Do you require and materials?
Danny: Oh nah. I've got a direct line to the ghost we need. We just need a big enough room. He was never human. He's a 9ft tall yeti. Best healer in his section of the Realms. Since he's been around so long.
Alfred:.. What would be required to ensure his and our safety?
Danny: Huh? Oh! Yeah. Right. Frostbite is chill. Really, really laid back. And I've known him for years. He won't hurt anyone unless they attack him, or someone under his protection. He's not a complete pacifist. But he's pretty damn close.
Jason: And he won't be angry about bein summoned?
Danny: I mean? If it wasn't me or someone he knows? He'd probably be annoyed. But he doesn't have to answer. He's powerful enough to reject a summons of most people? I think maybe me, and two or three others living Earth side are powerful enough to manage to force him? But I never would. It's more like a request?
Jason: So, a mage and a medium?
Danny: Nah not really? I don't have magic as such. Just ectoplasm. So I can only do stuff involving ghosts. I could probably figure out how to use Ecto to power spells. But like, why bother? That just gets you involved with demons. And frankly? Fuck that noise!
Once Alfred led them to a sufficiently large space, Danny pulled out a small book. Clearly hand made. With several old style pieces of parchment bound together. He flipped through and placed a single drop of blood on a sigil. Seeing the confused looks on their faces Danny grinned.
Danny: Like I said. Frostbite is a friend. This is his personal sigil. Using a drop of blood lets him know it's me.
Alfred and Jason both startled when a swirling portal formed. Green, purer than the Lazarus pits, and a deep icy blue. Once it stabilised a large form came through.
Jason: Jesus. You weren't kidding. You sure your friends only 9ft?
Frostbite laughed at the Great One's new friend. Humans often remarked on his height. Though he was hardly the tallest of his kind.
Frostbite: Great One! It is good to see you. I take it you have called about your amusing new friend?
Danny: Yeah. Martha and Thomas here tracked me down. Also, how many times! Dan-ny. Dan-ny. Not Great One! C'mon man!
Frostbite: You saved my people from a great evil. I will pay you the respect due! Thomas, Martha, a pleasure to meet you. I will look after your Grandson. Now, young one, what do I call you? And your other Grandfather?
