Hey!! I am Lee! Formerly known as Mod Ezra. They/them pronouns. You can call me either, or you can call me Sock!
I am not the og creator of this! I was invited on as a moderator back in the 2010s when we got a lot of submissions. Somewhere along the way I saw the other mod, Parker, was no longer connected. I don't know if they deactivated or what.
But throughout the years I've continued to post asks that were submitted. When the W2H2 trailer dropped there was some more activity but at that point I wasn't involved in the fandom anymore. Three years ago I graduated college and started a job in my field. So, I wasn't on Tumblr much at all.
But, I've been obsessed with W2H since I was 14 and I'm 24 now. And part 1 W2H2 really re-awakened my love for these characters and this film.
If you scroll through there's some cringe things on here. I'm not deleting them bc I think they provide context, but I've changed. I've done away with any rules for submissions and we'll just handle things as they come up.
Any mentions I made about having a complicated relationship with W2H is bc of a previous romantic relationship where we both shared a love for W2H. I'm married now and over it but I hope she got to see W2H2.
I am queer, nonbinary, and neurodivergent. I have personal values around anti-oppression that will be reflected here.

Scene where Jonathan and Sock are in an elevator and then while it’s going up Sock’s like “oh wait a minute, I can just-“ and he floats out of the elevator to go to the next floor
So I like to rewatch W2H2 from time to time because I love it so much, but I noticed that after Jonathan stops talking with his mom and tells her he’s going to go outside, the journal kind of just disappears, so I like to think that Jonathan’s sweater pocket is some kind of wormhole tunnel portal thing.
Jonathan, obviously being neurodivergent and bisexual is incapable of sitting straight. He gives me hangs upside down on couches for shits and giggles vibes.

Sock was given two different names because his parents could never agree on a first name. They landed on Napoleon first and Max second because Max is a more common name and also is a common dog name.
Mephistopheles automatically changes trans and non binary people to their preferred bodies in the afterlife but Providence does not. She's not necessarily transphobic, she just doesn't understand why her "perfect creations" want to change anything about themself. Mean she was made in her perfect form, so that means everyone else would be too, right?
She respects pronouns and such but she does not change their physical forms to match their bodies. They have to ask another member of her council to change their bodies and they will do so, lamenting their bosses lack of foresight during the entire process.

Anyway, I love this idea of Providence being well intentioned by not understanding how her creations could not just love themselves. I think Providence in that way would have an expansive view of gender where she affirms your gender no matter what body you're in and doesn't see how they are connected at all. Bc souls or whatever
But Mephistopheles has a more humanistic view and understands how a physical body can impact your experience of gender!

To add on to this I head cannon that Mephistopheles and Providence aren’t that focused on their own gender. Like I guess they jut kinda fit into being seen as binary and using he/him and She/Her because they know it makes the most sense to a large majority of humans they interact with. However they truly don’t care about what they’re called or seen as. They just roll with being seen as straight and cis and the social stuff around it. Like if what society saw them as was called something else then they would probably just roll with it. Besides they existed before the invention of cultural identities that explained the gender part of their soul.
like I think they just knew who they where in their soul and didn’t need to call that part of their soul their gender. They just also felt like they themselves where comfortable in their own skin and their own bodies worked to describe them as they were. Mephistopheles a little less so because of the whole wings thing but still.

the more i think about it, the more sock being liked in his town makes.. less sense?
like, i get it. he's friendly and he's kind, people like him for that. in the show, that kind of takes a backseat. he's more hyperactive, more ADHD traits are shown (for lack of a better term) and people don't really like that. was he masking his entire life?
also, how did he have 0 real friends? if he's so well-liked, wouldn't some friend group have formed with him in it? or at least tried to? what would even be stopping it? not a whole lot, I know sock isn't stopping it.
but the nail in the coffin (hehe) is the fact that he's killed things before. it's a fact. and it's well known, too. he showed a dead squirrel to jojo, do you think she just.. didn't tell anyone? and if she did tell everyone, then how is he still so liked? is that why he has no friends? but why does anyone still like him or talk to him in the first place, even if he has no true friends? did she tell and nobody believed her? then how does he have 0 friends??
so im personally retconning that fact for my headcanon as of right now. sock was not very liked in his town, actually. he's good at making friends with strangers, yes, but he's too hyperactive (and too murdery) for a long term friendship. Jonathan is his first real, guaranteed chance that someone will get to know him, or at least he gets to know someone else.

I've always thought Sock was bullied and hated. He kills things, he's weird, he's too friendly and creepy. But worst of all he dresses weird. He probably gets hate crimes for being gay because he wears a skirt. I mean the amount of people who couldn't handle it in the real world was ridiculous.
There’s a lot of stuff that’s changed from how I first envisioned Sock! In the earliest concept of the character, he had actually accidentally killed Jojo, believe it or not. My original idea was that Sock was this walking ball of contradictions, and I’ve definitely said some stuff about him in pre-film material that I’ve had to walk back because it was just too unrealistic (such as him already having a body count!).
That said, when I described Sock as well-liked in his home town, I think what I pictured was more like he’s generally overly friendly and polite with people, so the strangers in his town tend not to suspect anything is off with him. People who know him are a different story. But I guess it depends on the size of his town… if it’s small enough, word would get around quickly, his classmates would tell their families about him, etc. If it’s a little larger, he probably bumps into old ladies who think he’s perfectly sweet and don’t know any different, even if he dresses a little weird.
But I do think maybe this dichotomy of strangers liking him but familiars knowing he’s not quite right is also unrealistic. At the time I wanted to imagine him as this force of contradictions, and that was part of it. I even imagined his parents were split on the issue, with his dad sensing something was wrong, but his mom chocking it up to him just being ~creative~, haha.
His likability might need to be something I revise going forward as well. My rule in changing what I’ve changed has been that if it makes him TOO unbelievable or unrelatable, then I’m willing to change it to something that makes more sense. It’s a difficult balance with a character like Sock! And I came up with the character when I was a teenager in the early 2000s so there’s been a lot of developments! Haha.
