Hey animation peeps! I'm very excited to announce that I'm on my way to Nashville Tennessee for the Taught by a Pro Weekend animation seminar! Tonight the event kicks off with a VIP dinner, where I'll not only be in the same room as like minded animation enthusiasts, but Disney masters Eric Goldberg, Aaron Blaise, John Pomeroy and Tom Bancroft!! WHEW. To say I'm excited would be an understatement! Howdy folks!

So I decided to take on Noah Bradley's 21 day challenge (read about it here: https://medium.com/@noahbradley/21-days-to-be-a-better-artist-48087576f0dd) where you draw/paint/art anything for at least an hour a day. Seeing that I'm snowed in, along with most of the Northeast, I found it most appropriate to draw me choking out Elsa. Let's face it. She's asked for it. ;)

Thought I'd do a lighting study of an animation I'll be starting soon! It's a short dialog where a girl makes a wish from her "fairy godmother." This definitely helps to develop the mood before opening any 3D software. Thorough planning can make all the difference! I'll be posting progress throughout the upcoming week. :)

I thought I'd share the first blocking pass of my first animation, an eagle swooping in to catch a fish (and no, the fish hasn't been added yet...). And let's be honest: nothing says "America" like animating a bald eagle for Independence Day!

Howdy, y'all!

I went to a "How-To Paint in Photoshop" session yesterday and thought I'd give it a go! Above shows my process thus far, starting with the concept development, value study and the beginnings of some color. I'm hoping to have the whole piece done by tomorrow!

I'm still learning how to control the different tools and brushes, but as with all types of art, practice makes perfect!

TGIF, my animation amigos!

I'm polishing up some of my work to put on my demo reel, and I thought I'd share one of my more recent sources of inspiration: an animation breakdown from Sony Pictures Imageworks of their latest hit The Amazing Spiderman 2.

When we hear the word "animation," our minds typically start off to a more Disney/Dreamworks-esque idea of animation. But I have come to learn over the past few years a whole new world of animation possibilities. In the past year I have become mesmerized by incorporating animation into live-action sequences and can't help but obsess over things like the muscle controls and cloth simulations as seen in the video attached.

So keep an open mind to all forms of art. You never know what may peak your interest!

Hey everyone!

I’d like to give a big thank you to all my followers, whether you are new to my Tumblr or have stuck with me since the beginning. I am merely weeks away from graduation and I am developing not only my skills for the professional world, but my blog as well! I will still post the occasional work of other animators as inspiration, but I will now be using this primarily as a timeline of my own work. Animation, character designs, figure drawings… and all that fun stuff! Though I am graduating, I still have much more growing to do, only now I get to do it while getting hands-on experience with talented animators that have vast knowledge of the industry.

I am preparing myself for take-off, so join me on this journey into the unknown world of making it in the animation industry!
