Scare Kingdom - Srrrh Speculates
As you may have gathered from the posts over the last couple of days, Scare Kingdom Scream Park in Lancashire has been making ALL the announcements which makes (most of) our group very happy little bunnies. As I keep trying to turn idle speculation based on little to no actual information into a marketable skill [insert journalist joke here], here’s a few thoughts on the announced attractions. “Bait” I have no ideas on this. Why did I start on this one? It could be anything. Moving on… “Neverdead Scare Zone” Ok first, why call it a scare zone? It’s not like a theme park where you need to label something as scary in case small children wander in (not that it seems to stop them); the whole place is a scare zone. Just call it Neverdead. Anyway, this is the cornfield maze so fingers crossed we get better weather this year - there was no corn at all last year, causing a fairly long and dull walk between the first and second attraction. “Cyberscream Live” Redundant “live” added to the title aside, this is what I’ve been most looking forward to. Now I know it’s based on a crashed spaceship I am cautiously optimistic that this will be my favourite. I was hoping for some kind of “getting stuck in a computer” theme but as I enjoy Dead Space 2 more than a respectable horror gamer should, this could be EPIC. “Manormortis” I’m really intrigued by how they’re going to do this as it’s being billed as a “living house”. Conventionally when we get evil buildings weird stuff happens to the actual house (as in Amityville Horror, though I imagine difficult to replicate live!) or it drives the protagonist mad (as in The Shining). Given that the protagonist in a horror maze is the audience, there’s a lot of places they can go with this and it should be really good. “Cannibal CarnEVIL” Look, scare companies. I get it, carnival sounds like the word evil, which is scary. But carnivals in the UK aren’t circuses or funfairs and we don’t have carnies. Let alone cannibalistic ones. Just…please stop Americanising our horror mazes. Anyway this sounds good, the cannibals in the Inbreeds Impound last year were great fun and if they mix that with a successful circus theme then they could be on to a real winner. “Psychomanteum” According to Wikipedia, a psychomanteum is “…a mirrored room, specially set up to communicate with the spiritual realm.” Scrap what I said yesterday, I don’t care how much extra they charge, I would pay ALL the money to get to experience a mirrored horror maze based around ghosts *alone*. Seriously go check out the rest of the Wiki article on these things. This is going to be intense. And on that note, I just want to mention how great it is that Scare Kingdom are paying attention to the more obscure sides of horror. Last year they had the Theatre of Gore Guignol, based around a now defunct French theatre in the early/mid 1900s that specialised in horror shows…basically a now almost forgotten forerunner to modern horror mazes. So yeah. You go Scare Kingdom. You go.

Scare Kingdom Scream Park is back on selected dates in October and November 2013 with 6 all-new attractions! Get trapped inside "Bait", creep through the cornfield in "Neverdead Scare Zone", navigate the crashed space station Apocalyptica in "Cyberscream Live", venture into the living house "Manormortis" and meet the flesh-hungry carnies in "Cannibal CarnEVIL". Plus - experience our up-charge attraction "Psychomanteum" - alone...

Scare Kingdom Announces New Attraction
Scare Kingdom, a scare attraction in Lancashire run by AtmosFEAR Entertainment, has announced a new maze for the 2013 season...one which you experience alone. Psycho-Manteum is going to be an upcharge attraction and for the first time at this event guests will have to go through by themselves. Personally I'm both terrified and excited by this prospect; last year we did the full run with just three of us which made for an incredibly intense experience. I do wonder how much it will be as there is a limit to how much money I will spend to potentially soil myself and cry like a baby. I like having the protection of people around me! The previously announced attractions, Manor Mortis and Cyberscream, have already shown that the park is taking a new direction this year (I find the idea of Cyberscream particularly intriguing). I hope, however, that there will still be four mazes PLUS Psycho-Manteum - it would be disappointing to get fewer inclusive mazes because of an extra one that not everyone would want to go on, even if there are brand new tricks and thrills. -Srrrh
On Sunday Towers Times reported the opening date for The Smiler was set to be May 15th, this was confirmed to us by a lower level employee of the Alton Towers Resort. Unfortunately following further discussion with the resort this date is unconfirmed and we believe it is exceptionally unlikely the ride will be open by then. Please accept our apologies for the false information and we will work hard to bring you more details on the opening date when they are confirmed by the resort.
Towers Times
Towers Times has reported that The Smiler will open on the 15th May. Seems bizarre that they’d launch it on a Wednesday; however given that Sub-Terra was such a flop on opening weekend due to technical issues preventing the attraction from having, well, all the good bits, perhaps they’re hedging their bets and making sure that by the weekend it will all be running smoothly? Not seen any other sources confirming this as yet - watch this space!
Interesting to see the changes since the last Secret Weapon.
