"I know, technically underage, but . . . one small glass of wine won’t kill me.” Wendy gave a wry little smile. Her creativity hadn’t been working for her all week and she couldn’t quite figure out why. “You won’t mention this to anyone, right?”

Pumpkins
skellingtongrin-jack:
Jack let out a small breath that he hadn’t known he was holding when he saw her approaching him. He was usually calm in any situation, but even Jack Skellington had to be a little nervous with so many hunters wandering around. His eyes moved from her towards another hunter who had seemed to have forgotten something because he paused then turned back around, and again, Jack let out a small sigh of relief. Part of the thrill of being able to sneak into the city was the hunters, but they were also the reason a majority of his friends never made it back to their homes, so a part of Jack did hold some grudges against them and it was sometimes hard not to try and eat just one or two. He prided himself, though, in being a zombie who respected the life of humans no matter how distasteful or hurtful they could be towards him and his zombie friends.
When the girl was now close enough for him to get a good smell of her scent, unintentionally, any worry Jack may have had towards the hunters left him. For some reason, instead of heightening his desire for brains, her scent gave him a relaxing feeling, and he let himself sink into that. “I did.” He softly replied, smiling at her. “I found this one in front of the city walls and thought I was meant to come in here, but…I see I might have been mistaken.” He chuckled, looking down and gently pulling off the top of the pumpkin to reveal a small paper inside. “Oh..” he picked the paper up, reading it. “I guess I should have opened it first.” He softly laughed, not wanting to cause unwanted attention, before looking up to meet her eyes once more. “Would you like to solve the mystery together?” He offered her the second clue, smiling still. He figured she couldn’t be one of the mean humans because she had yet to sound any alarm.
Excitement thrummed in Wendy’s veins. She so rarely found someone willing to explore or adventure with her - at least not in the city. The children enjoyed her stories, but so many of the adults focused on getting through the day and ignoring the Wastelands. Oh, she knew there were those who didn’t - people who tried to research cures or gather supplies or protect the humans, but she just didn’t move in those circles. One of the ordinary citizens, she tended to be surrounded by others like her. Proper, rule following, and a bit . . . well, a bit dull.
“You already found the first pumpkin?” She clapped her hands and then looked around hurriedly to make sure she hadn’t attracted any attention. “Oops,” she giggled, clasping her hands together. “I shall have to be more careful.” Watching as he found the paper and pulled it out, Wendy could feel her old love of adventure swirling up and drowning out the rest of her doubts. His words finally registered and she blinked . . . come into the city? Was he a zombie then? She tilted her head, examining him. Perhaps he must be - though touching him to find out would be quite rude of her. Many of her friends were now zombies, and he didn’t appear to be planning to try for her brains - not if he wanted to solve the mystery. So she smiled, anticipation building as she nodded. “Oh, yes! I truly would like to solve the mystery, and it would be much better to work together.”
