nova-bennett:
So, just found out my parents aren’t gonna be able to come back to Boston for Thanksgiving this year. I may just go volunteer at the soup kitchen or something if anyone wants to go with. Beats spending it alone.
For real, they’re not coming back for Thanksgiving? How come?
I’m sorry Nova, that sucks. It’d be awesome of you to do that, and I’ll tell you what... how about we both go and volunteer earlier in the day, and then you come back and have Thanksgiving dinner with the Coles after that?

“You’re right” he breathed. Not telling Ruby would mean that he didn’t trust her enough and it was far from the case. Holden trusted her. There was no reason for things to go wrong if he told her the truth. After all, it wasn’t like he actually wanted this job. If it were the other way around, he’d want to give her the choice and would encourage her to take the job if she really wanted to, even if it hurt. That’s probably why he imagined her doing the same. In fact, he was the problem. “I’ll be honest with her but I’ve already made up my mind anyway. I’m staying. Besides, it sounds like we’re going to be busy” he added, offering a genuine smile for the first time today. “What about you though? What’s new with you?”
Wes nodded, happy that Holden seemed to be taking his advice to heart. It was so great to see his friend happy with Ruby, and though the new job might have been worth it had he not been attached... there was just too much to potentially lose now. “Then there’s no way she can be mad about that, and I’ve got to say... I’m pretty happy about that myself, selfishly.” Wes chuckled, and returned the smile back at Holden. “So busy we can’t stand it.” As the topic was redirected back towards himself, Wes sighed a little and propped his chin up on his hand. “I’m good, nothing is really new though. Work’s okay, classes are the usual. Personal life... good, but could be better.” It had been a while now since the vacation to the Hamptons, and though there had been definite movement between he and Nova, since then they seemed to be apart more than anything. Not on purpose, but it had been a little unsettling.
nova-bennett:
Oh, that’s right! Could you imagine us building bunk beds in there or something? Lol. That kind of reminds me of when we were younger. That makes both of us. Even if I might be awful at it. you totally fit the surfer dude vibes.
Hey, there are worse things to be addicted to in this world. Except for hot chocolate. That beats all, of course. Okay, fair point. Although I’m not complaining either. t least it’s officially sweater weather now!
Oh man, now I kind of want that even more! Yes, same here actually, that does take me back. Oh c’mon, you don’t know you’d be awful. When it’s something you put your mind to, you always master it. I don’t know about that... you think?
That’s true, but I agree about hot chocolate. Nothing better than that, ever. It is, sweaters and hoodies. Comfort weather.

He leaned back with a sigh. Knowing Ruby, she’d worry that he’d turn down the job just for her and she wouldn’t be entirely wrong. Wes was right though and Holden knew it. He needed to be honest and tell Ruby about this opportunity. Then, it would be his job or convince her that he was making the right decision. “I think I’ll do it tonight…. you’re right… she needs to know”. Now that he knew what the next step was, it didn’t take away the fear. He wouldn’t feel better until finally talking to his girlfriend but it also depended on the outcome. Maybe because he could tried imagine what he would do I for she had an opportunity like this. In the end, he knew that she trusted so how could it go wrong? “I guess we should also start working on what we’ve been talking about, uh?”
All Wes could do was give him the best possible advice he could, and it just felt like honesty was truly the best policy in this case. “Good, because she does. And because if you don’t give her all the information she could see it as you not trusting her enough to.” Cocking his head to the side, Wes knew that probably didn’t make Holden feel any better about things. “I think the bottom line is you know what’s best for you, but it’s even more important to show Ruby that level of trust.” He nodded towards his friend, “That sounds like a good idea to me, we’ve definitely got the time to put into it now at least.”
nova-bennett:
Guess we should have jumped on the opportunity. although we likely would have ended up homeless there. Right? Can you surf? Now I’m curious.
What, do you think they put some secret ingredient in them or something? Kidding though. Call me weird, but I still prefer mine in Frapp form. Even when it’s cold out.
Yeah, but live and learn I guess, right? Hey you don’t know that for sure, besides if we had a surf shop we could have just lived in there. Nope, but I gotta say I’d like to give it a try sometime.
I’m not saying they do... but I’m not saying they don’t either. There’s something in there that makes them addictive though. Nah that’s not weird, that’s just a personal choice. And we’re talking Boston... when’s it NOT cold out?
nova-bennett:
You’re definitely not alone in it at all. should have gone with that plan to just secretly move to the Hamptons and open a surf shop. Hey, don’t diss the PSL. It’s basic and all, but it still tastes good.
Yup, I knew at the time it was a great idea, responsibility sucks. But I’m glad I’ve got some support on that. Plus, a surf shop just sounds cool.
I wasn’t dissing it, I just know it’s a strong pull at this time of year and sometimes it can cloud people’s judgements. I enjoy a good PSL.
holdenchavez:
“Well…” to say that this came out of the blue wouldn’t be a lie but at the same time, it wasn’t entirely true either. “I went to a job interview. I just didn’t think they’d offer something that’s not in Boston”. Before Ruby, moving all the way across the country probably wouldn’t have been a problem but it was different now. Was this job worth all the trouble it could cause if he told her? It wasn’t his dream job but as far as he was concerned, it was better than the one he currently had. The answer was pretty clear to him though. He wasn’t going anywhere without Ruby. “I don’t want to leave without Ruby… and I could never ask her to chose between her grandmother and me. She’s the only family she has left… I’ve been wanting to turn down the job ever since I got the email but I feel like I should still talk to her about it. I’m just afraid she’ll want me to go even if it’s without her”.
Wes sat and listened to his friend explain the situation he was in, nodding along as he found out there was a potential job all the way out in California if Holden wanted it. The trouble was, it didn’t seem like it was great news. “Oh, then now I get it. That’s got to mean they see big things for you though if they’re trying to get you to relocate cross country. Still though, I get that it’s a really big decision to make.” He knew Holden, and knew he wasn’t going to leave his girlfriend behind in any way. And with Ruby’s current situation she wasn’t likely to leave either. Wes gave another nod, and rested his chin in his hands as he considered Holden’s words. “I get that, but you do need to look at it from her side of things too. I say just be honest with her and tell her the situation, that you have this opportunity but you’re feeling like staying here outweighs taking the job. If I know her like I think I do, what she’ll really want is for you to be happy above all else. And dude, that’s so clearly here with her. There’s no contest.”
Man do I wish we were still on summer hours and out on vacation still, getting back into classes is pretty much a buzzkill. Please tell me I’m not alone in this. Or am I outvoted now that it’s PSL season here?
holdenchavez:
Holden was looking down at his hands, lips puckered into a slight pout as he considered his options. He only noticed Wesley’s presence she never he spoke. “I just got here” he laughed, smile not quite reaching his ears. Was he that transparent though? Something was wrong and he couldn’t wait to get it off his chest. “I got a job offer” he sighed “but it’s in California. I haven’t told Ruby and I don’t know if it’s necessary…”
Holden’s body language was already betraying him, this wasn’t his usual happy-go-lucky self sitting and waiting for Wesley to join him. Even though he tried to laugh it off, Wes listened as Holden explained that he’d gotten a job offer. “Oh wow, out in California, huh? That’s great man, but was it something you were going out for or did this come out of the blue?” That he was questioning whether to even mention it to Ruby had Wes wondering whether this job was one Holden really wanted or if there was something else behind his hesitation. “Let me ask you this, is this something you really want to look into?”

Holden grabbed his jack and hurtled down the stairs. It had been a few days since he’d gotten that email with a new job offer and the deadline to give an answer was getting closer and closer. The only thing Holden knew was that he wasn’t going to leave Boston without Ruby. On the other hand, he had no idea if he should tell her about it or not. He needed advice and the only person he could trust with that piece of information at the moment was Wesley. He pushed the door opened and looked around for Wesley. It seemed that he’d made it before his friend so he decided to sit at a table and wait.
Wesley made it to the diner in the nick of time, just before the time he was supposed to meet up with Holden. Ducking into the doorway, he looked around and saw his friend sitting down and waiting so he headed right in to join him. “Man, I never could make it anywhere before you, Holden, you’re too quick. How’s it going?” Taking a seat across the table from him, Wes tried to do a quick read of his friend to figure out why he might have wanted to get together today for lunch. Not that he needed a reason, but they’d seen less of each other lately and it was good to catch up. Maybe a little suspicious, but good too. “Everything okay?”
nova-bennett:
“I remember you used to give the most supreme piggy-back rides!” Nova added, a girlish, drunken giggle floating from her lips at Wes’ joke. “So long as you pick me back up, I don’t really care,” she admitted, her fingers squeezing his bicep more tightly as she felt his strong arm draw her closer than ever. Damn, he was toned. A chill strummed through her, and Nova was very aware it was from the contact and not the breeze of the beach. “Mm… I dunnooooooo,” her words stretched out in a slur, a sense of peace wafting through her as she felt Wes’ breath tickle her ear as he head leaned against hers. Nova definitely didn’t want to break this closeness; sure, when they were younger it wasn’t out of the ordinary for them to cuddle, or play flight, but this was different.
Still, she stopped in her tracks upon reaching the sand as they made a shortcut through the beach. “These have to come off though,” Nova pointed out, her small hand still clinging to Wes as she bent down to try and tug off her high heels with the other. Usually graceful, Nova wasn’t so much when she was under the influence. It seemed to be a more difficult task than she had imagined, one that had Nova tumbling into the sand and flat on her back. She was already flushed, but the heat in her face - and all of her skin grew as she’d pulled Wes down with her in the motion; right, smack on top of her. Nova giggled again, hazel eyes shining as she gazed up at him from heavy, hooded lashes. “Didn’t say you didn’t want us both to fall.”
Shaking his head with a grin plastered on his face, Wes remembered those piggy-back rides too, fondly. “Well then if you’re sure, I’ll pick ya up for sure.” Pulling her into him closely, and her drawn out answer made him chuckle. They were walking right together, helping one another keep moving and as they made it to the beach Nova suddenly stopped to take off her shoes to help her remain stable and upright. It didn’t work though, and with her still holding onto Wes’s hand she managed to pull him right down along with her into the sand! He landed on top of Nova, able to break the fall enough so that he didn’t hurt her, but in doing so they came face to face with one another. And as Wes looked down into darkened hazel eyes, he couldn’t help but let a grin creep over his face too. The adrenaline rush flowing through his body right now was intense, and he chuckled at her wisecrack.
“Mmm, yup. You got me there.” Wes lifted up gently and his eyes looked down between them, or rather at the lack of anything between them right now. He could feel Nova pressing beneath him, and her breath against his neck right now couldn’t stop his pulse from racing quicker and quicker now. “In fact,” he added, “I think maybe you just plain got me here too.” Before his brain could tell him what a potentially bad idea this was, Wes leaned back down and began to kiss Nova on the lips as he pinned an arm over her head gently.
cass-morgan:
“If they have one, we should get a platter to share so that we can try everything.” She told him as she held onto the door jamb, then disappeared into her room. Her dress was short with a bardot off the shoulder neckline, perfect for their summer getaway. She returned, hoisting the strap of her handbag up onto her shoulder. “See, I knew you were the right person for this. We’re going to do exactly that Wesley Cole.”
“Ah see, I like how you think. We’ve gotta do that.”
Once they’d gotten ready to head out to the pub, it didn’t take long to actually make it there. Walking in together, they were quickly seated up near the bar, surrounded by music and loud chatter all around them. “So Cass, how’ve you been enjoying the trip so far?”
nova-bennett:
I do! Sometimes I’m too wired to sleep. You’re welcome to borrow it if you wanna test it out– they’re kind of pricey. Which honestly, is my preference. I’m sorry. To be honest, I don’t wanna think about either of those myself. My lips are sealed. Oh, I do? …Are you complaining? ;)
I’d believe it, especially after you’re off work. Really? I’d hate to deprive you of it though, even for a night. Of course, natural is almost always better. That’s okay, no? I’m glad we’re in agreement on it then. Hmm... are they? Yes yes, you do. Nope, most definitely not at all. ;)
nova-bennett:
You gonna make me come over there instead? Tease.
Nah, I can come to you instead, but I feel like I’m the one who’s being teased now.

Holden: Hey you wanna meet up at the café?
Wes: Hey man, sure! Meet you there in fifteen?
