Mini rose her cat colored eyes from the computer screen once she heard a voice. Hearing what he had to say she furrowed her eyebrows, not entirely certain what he was talking about until it clicked to her. “Did I say that out loud?” she questioned.
She didn’t do surprises, no, she didn’t like surprises. Maddie always liked to know how she was going to react to something, and the uneasy set her on edge. Despite her desperation to know where Wesley was taking her, Maddie couldn’t deny it felt good to get out of their apartment. It had been a rollercoaster week, their engagement pushing a smile to her face whenever it crossed her mind, but she couldn’t deny the distinct feeling of loss she had due to Greyson’s death. Feeling her smile slip a little, Maddie reached down and held onto Wesley’s hand, squeezing it gently as she tried not to let her mind wander down that road. Glancing out of the car window, the brunette frowned a little before turning back to her fiancee. “Yes.. I mean, I’m guessing that’s why I have an ice rink on my finger..” Smiling at him, she winked once before looking out of the window. “I also know your hand is in a dangerous for someone who has uncontrollable hormones… Baby, where are we? I don’t even recognise this part of town, it looks fancy. You look very pleased with yourself…” Frowning a little, Maddie pouted a little before leaning over to kiss his cheek. “Will you just tell me baby, please?”
Placing a small kiss onto the back of Maddie’s palm, Wesley’s smile grew even larger. His eyes quickly darting between the woman next to him and the dirt path. “Patience. Be patient for me, love,” he replied. Obvious excitement taking over his voice. About 17 seconds later, they approached a house. A very beautiful house to be a bit more specific. It was the type of house that could strike envy into it’s neighbors, but still modest enough to be considered a “family-oriented” home. Shutting off the engine, the man let himself exit the car before jogging over to let Maddie out. Both hands clasping through hers as he gently pulled her out of the vehicle. “So --- what do you think of this place?” He asked with a slight bit of hesitation. “Honest answer. Don’t hold back. Throw it at me with all force.”
Sitting in front of her laptop, Mini cradled a steaming hot mug of tea in her hands. She thought she was coming down with a cold which only made her feel worse. “Goodness, that’s going to cause trouble,” she said loud enough for people who were around her to be able to hear, though it wasn’t her intention.
“Who --- who are you talking to?” Wesley asked in confusion, glancing over both shoulders to check if there was an unknown person behind him. “What would cause trouble? Me? I never cause trouble.”
“So, then the man says, ‘That’s not a duck! That’s my wife!” At the punchline, Tatum sighed. “Listen, I never said I was a comedian, I said I knew a joke. It’s not my fault it wasn’t funny. Now can we actually get down to business or what?”
“I thought I was bad at telling jokes, but damn. I think you might actually have me beat with that one. Did you get that from a popsicle stick,” Wesley joked before opening the manila folder of paperwork in front of him. His eyes adjusting to the small typed words. “Okay, so --- what exactly is our game plan supposed to be again?”
“Don’t you trust me,” Wesley smirked, glancing over at his fiancée before placing his hand on her upper thigh. He had only been driving for a good two minutes before he was pelted by a load of questions from Maddie. Her curiosity taking over quicker than he would have imagined. He already knew that what he had done for the two of them could only go one of two ways: absolutely disastrous or one of the best & most memorable moments of their entire life. There was no in-between. This past week had been rough for the both of them. Nothing but bittersweet tones to set their mood each and every day. They were engaged, and that alone made him want to shout from the rooftops and tell every stranger he came across on the street. But at the same exact time, there were tragic loses. Loses that had hit them both rather hard --- but one in particular that hit Maddie the hardest. However, when it came down to it, it also reminded the man of what little time they had on this earth. How each and every moment counts. And that’s what he was going to do --- make each and every moment, count. Turning down the narrow private road, he could no longer contain a large smile from meeting his face. His hand giving her thigh a light squeeze. “You know I love you, right?”
It only flared him up even more when he saw the man not getting out of place, his fists turning into balls and every movement he would do then on it was the panic taking over his body, the anger, the need to be somewhere other than that, not only for his sake, but other people’s sake as well. Without calculating the force he put into the punch, he hit the wall right next to him, feeling immense pain shooting up his arm and the crack of bones, but Nathan didn’t complain, he would do that when the adrenaline stopped blocking the pain. “You need to get the fuck out of my way man, I don’t want to hurt you,” his felt his chest tighten as it could feel the thrill of one second to appeasing his year, grabbing the man by the colar, Nathan pushed him to the same wall he had hit previously. “You don’t want this. Stay the fuck out of my way.”
His mind wasn’t really registering what exactly was happening to him until he felt his body being pinned up against the wall. His face immediately grimacing in pain. It had been years since Wesley had gotten into any sort of physical altercation with another person. The new-found outlook he had on life now preventing him from any sort of violent or aggressive urges. But regardless of what he now lived by, he also believed that this man might be slightly unstable. The stress of the situation they had been thrown in now getting to him in ways it hadn’t really gotten to anybody else. Fixated his gaze directly on the stranger’s, Wesley bulldozed the man’s frame into the opposite wall. “Look man, there are kids in here --- and I don’t think you yelling and knocking people out is really helping with their nerves. I still don’t know what your issue is, but whatever the fuck it might be, chill out.” At this point, the entire church had fallen silent. Every single person pausing their activities to focus on the two men. Dropping his arms from the man’s torso, Wesley simultaneously took a step back & lifted his chin. “I don’t want any trouble. Nor do I have the time to stand here and throw punches at you for a few minutes. So you need to either leave --- or I can get you water and some food and let you cool down in peace. Take your pick, man.”
He was not in the mood for superheroes.Nathan knew it would only be a short amount of time before his whole system started overreacting to his surroundings. That was the worst possible scenario for someone like him – he was away from everyone who seemed to keep him grounded and he felt constricted, to say the least, it didn’t help that the lights had gone out and everyone seemed to be agglomerating around him when he just wanted some peace, he just wanted a silent place where he could put his thoughts in order, but instead he had people with endless questions he could not answer and those who insisted to stay in his way. His anger had been triggered, he could feel the blood boiling underneath his skin – it itched, as if something wanted to get out, but couldn’t and he snapping was the only reaction he had.
The sudden presence of the man didn’t do anything to make it better. His sight was foggy and he had to take a deep breath to speak in words, instead of fists. “Get the fuck out of my way, man. I don’t want to fight.” He warned, still, his knuckles were already balled, ready to strike if his requests weren’t met.
Clenching his jaw slightly, Wesley shut his eyes. His mind running over different possibilities to calm the man down. “I’m not moving until you do, man. I can’t let you hit him,” he responded slowly, motioning to the man behind him. “I’m not sure what the situation was and I don’t know why you’re upset, but you need to understand that you’re not the only one on edge here. We all have places we want to be and people we want to see, I can assure you of that. So - please don’t do this now.” Taking a step back from the man, Wes kept his eyes locked on his. Waiting to see if he would cooperate.

Maddie: As soon as the city had been cleared, Maddie had been desperate to get out and find Wesley, to make sure he was alright and to put her anxious mind at ease. Now sitting in the doctor's office, watching the small ultrasound screen, she breathed a sigh of relief as herself and her baby got the all clear. "Everything is fine, Maddie, just try and calm down, take it easy for a few days." Nodding, Maddie thanked her doctor before hurrying out of the office. After being cooped up, it seemed that everyone wanted to be outside and in her way. With her phone dead, Maddie rummaged around in her handbag, grabbing her purse and a picture of them from it. "Have you seen this man? Has anyone seen him?"
Wesley Frantically moving through the crowd, Wesley could actually hear his heart beating in his ears. His hands shaking more than they had been before. Where the hell was Maddie? Was she okay? His thoughts began reeling at 100 mph as he continuously thought up possible scenarios. What if she wasn’t okay? Swallowing the large lump that had formed in his throat, Wesley continued to maneuver through the crowd, his eyes fixated on nothing but the people in front of him. For a moment, everything stood still. His body jolted to a stop. He heard her. He knew it. “Maddie?” The man called out frantically into the sea of people. His pushes had become shoves as he tried to find his love. “Baby? Maddie, where are you?”
Maddie: Her head snapped to the side as she heard her name. Not just her name, but his voice. It was faint, but she heard it. "Wesley! Wes, where you?" Pushing through a group of people, a huge sigh of relief left her body as she spotted him. He was alright. "Baby!" Breaking out into a run, Maddie quickly made her way to him, throwing her arms around his neck as she reached him. "You're okay? You're okay, right?" Pulling back, she placed a firm kiss on his lips. "I was so scared."
Wesley “Maddie,” he called out to her as she began sprinting towards him. Almost like instinct, the man scooped the woman up into his arms. His face burrowing itself into her shoulder. “I --- I was so worried. I have no idea what the fuck I would have done if anything happened to you,” he muttered. His voice slightly muffled. Pulling back from the embrace, Wesley scanned over his girlfriend. His eyes full of worry. “Are you okay? Is everything okay? Please tell me everything is alright.”
Maddie: Nodding, Maddie moved her hands to his face as she just got used to being able to touch him once more. "I'm fine, everything is fine. I would've found you sooner but I had to see a doctor, we're both fine." Her arms wrapped back around his neck as she hugged him tightly, another sigh of relief leaving her lips. "Thank god it's over, I was going crazy not knowing what was going on with you... Are you alright? Adrian?"
Wesley “I’m alright. Adrian is Adrian. All is good,” he grinned, his fingers lacing through hers as he placed a kiss on her fist. Stuffing his free hand into the pocket of his jeans, Wesley suddenly remembered where they were supposed to be the previous night, but due to unforeseen circumstances, certain things just didn’t happen. However, that wasn’t enough to stop him from what he had planned to do. In fact, the situation made him realize how much he wanted to go through with it even more. Giving the woman a quick kiss on her forehead, Wesley began pulling her towards the city park. “Follow me.”
Maddie: Closing her eyes at the touch of his lips, Maddie frowned a little as he tugged on her hand, her feet reluctantly following. "Where are we going? Can't we just go home? I'm exhausted and I look like crap." Wrapping her free hand around his arm as they walked, the brunette looked to him, a puzzled look still on his face. "Why are we at the park? Wes, seriously, I just want you, pyjamas and a bed.. Can a walk around the park not wait?"
Wesley “Yes. A walk in the park needs to happen, sweetie. It will be refreshing.” Biting down gently on his bottom lip, Wesley played with the little box in his pocket. His nerves suddenly starting to get the best of him. “They need more lights in this park,” the man joked, turning to face Maddie. “Parts of this place look ridiculously creepy at night. Like, I’m fully expecting a demon child to jump down from a tree any second.” They didn’t have to walk much further until Wesley found a spot located at the far end of the park. It was nothing but an eggshell painted gazebo, large trees looming over either sides, with just a single lantern light falling in the center. “Over here,” he motioned. His pace picking up slightly.
Maddie: "No... I hot shower with you would be refreshing.." Pouting a little as they walked, Maddie could almost feel her body protesting. The adrenaline was slowly seeping out of her body and it had no way of keeping her body going without it. As they reached the gazebo, Maddie dropped Wesley's hand before slowly pacing it. "Mhm, it's lovely.." Turning to look at him, the brunette shrugged a little. "You bought me all the way here for a gazebo?"
Wesley “You. Are quite the stubborn one, my love.” the man mused, his lips lowering slightly to place a long kiss on the brunette’s lips. “I actually came out here to --- talk to you?” Pausing for what seemed like eternity, Wesley took in a deep breath of air. His hand running through his hair as his hands found their way back into the pocket of his pants. “Okay, look. Life is so short. So fucking short Maddie, and --- and this past event just reminded all of us of how fragile and quick this life we live is. I used to be a very firm believer in never bringing something into my life that I couldn’t stand losing. Period. I closed myself off to each and every emotion when it came to anything that involved romance --- and then you came along. A year ago, I would have never imagined that this is how I would feel. I would have never thought that I could feel something this fast. And this deep. I would have never thought that one single person could bring me so much love and happiness. I honestly can’t imagine my life without you. And I don’t want to wake up everyday unless I know I’m going to wake up next to you. To know that when I come home --- I’m coming home to your beautiful face, clumsy antics, and very very loud singing to every Disney movie ever made. These past few months is all is took. All it took for me to realize that all I want this twisted and fucked up life is you. I --- I know we haven’t been in this for awhile, but I’m smart enough to know when I want something, and when I need to get it.” Slowly pulling out the black velvet box from his pant pockets, Wesley pulled the top upwards. Revealing the engagement ring. Fixating his eyes back on the woman, the man gradually lowered himself down to one knee. This was it. “Mads,” he began as he closed his free hand over hers. “I’m absolutely fucking crazy about you, and I don’t want to live in a world where I can’t call you mine every second of every day. I know that this may be sudden, or quick. And I know that this is outrageous --- but I know what I want. And that’s you. I can’t imagine growing old with anybody else, and there is not a single person I would rather spend the rest of my life with. Maddie Isabelle York, will you marry me?”
Maddie: Deep down, as he was saying these things, Maddie knew what was coming. There was truly no other reason for Wesley to give that sort of speech, no matter what they'd just been through. Despite this, Maddie felt her breath catch in her throat as he revealed the box and opened it. "Holy shit.." As he sank into one knee, her eyes widened, it was as if her mind truly couldn't believe this was happening. Truly couldn't believe that someone really wanted to marry her. "Oh my god, you're on one knee." The brunette could feel the tears starting to pool in her eyes and as he spoke those four words, all she wanted to do was scream her answer. Instead, the shock kept her silent. Her lips were parted as she looked down at him. Her mind was screaming yes but she seemed to be a mute, truly too shocked to say anything. "I.... Are you sure?" Moving her free hand to cover her mouth, Maddie took a shaky breath in before she nodded, the grin instantly spreading across her face. "Yes.." Her voice was quiet at first but as she dropped her hand, she nodded again. "Yes! Of course I'll marry you! Yes!"
Wesley Wesley couldn’t help but attract the largest grin he could sum up. His eyes reading of nothing but pure & complete joy. To say he was ecstatic was a complete understatement, and no words would even be able to fathom his emotions at that moment. Yes, he was expecting to hear those very words, but at the same exact time, hearing her actually say it was enough to have his heart skip multiple beats. In one quick motion, Wesley stood up, swooping the woman up gently before placing multiple kisses across her lips; ‘I love you’s’ being muttered after each and every one. She was his. Forever. And what he shared with her was something nobody could take away from him. “I’m so beyond crazy about you, baby. I hope you know that there is nothing in this world I wouldn’t give you.”
Maddie: There were no words to truly convey how happy she was in that moment. Despite the short amount of time she'd been with Wesley, she knew that she had never felt this strongly about anyone in her life. Wrapping her arms around his neck, Maddie laughed quietly as she returned his kisses, although nothing could remove the grin from her face. "I love you too, so much. So so much." Kissing him again, Maddie pulled back a little, one hand moving to his cheek. "You've given me you, that's all I need to be happy, and you've given me someone else as well. A family." Reaching for the ring box, Maddie took the ring from it before pressing it into his palm. "Are you going to put this on or am I going to have to stare at it in a box?" Grinning still, Maddie held out her left hand before winking at him. "You know what you're getting yourself into, right? I'm going to be even more of a handful once we're married..."
Wesley “Oh shit, yeah.” Wesley still grinned from ear to ear took Maddie’s left hand. His lips placing a long kiss on the back of her palm before slowly sliding on the diamond ring. “Wow,” was all he could manage to say before his attention returned back to the brunette. Once again, their were no words to express his content and happiness in this very moment. He was still having a bit of difficulty wrapping his head around the fact that in such a short amount of time, this one person was his one, true source of happiness. Lifting up Maddie as if they had just gotten married, the man began allowing his feet to carry them. “How does it feel to be a fiancée?”
Maddie: Maddie's breath caught in her throat as he slipped the ring onto her finger. "Wow.." Wiggling her fingers a little, she glanced back up at Wesley before kissing him again. "You've got very good taste, Stevens." Wrapping her arm around his neck, Maddie couldn't help but laugh as he picked them up. "How does it feel to be the future Mrs Stevens? Pretty damn good.." Leaning her head onto his shoulder, Maddie held her left her hand out to admire her new ring. "So how does it feel to be the future Mr Maddie?" Grinning at him, she leaned her head forward a little to press a soft kiss against his neck. "I'm definitely going to call you that from now on, just so you know.."
For whatever reason, Nathan was feeling like he couldn’t stay in place — erratic was the closest he had to describe himself. He didn’t know where it came from, the itch and the feeling that his head would explode, but he was two seconds away from telling the whole room to shut up and let him think. In some level he hadn’t lost his consciousness yet, he knew what was happening and he knew what was reality and what was fabrication of his mind (right?), but nothing erased the feeling that everyone seemed to be whispering loudly in his ear. His hands went up to them as he tried constantly to block the sound away, but there was absolutely of no help. He tried to breath slowly. Inside and out, just like his mother had taught him when his anger got the best of him when he was just a kid, but nothing seemed to be working and he voices grew louder and grew louder, to the point he just wanted to get out of there. The man felt his anxiety flaring high underneath his skin, wanting to bubble to the surface and easily doing so before he could even calculate or see what he was doing. Nathan strong arms pushed someone out of the way, telling them to fuck off, trying to make room for himself to breath, not noticing the glares that aimed him, but he could care less of how violent his actions were. He needed to get out.
“--- And if you need anything, I’ll be right over there, alright?” He reassured the young stranger. His finger lifting up to lead the kid’s attention to the circle of chairs. Wesley’s anxiety & frustration levels had decreased tremendously. His nerves no longer getting the best of him due to the sea of voices reassuring the man and those that surrounded him that everything would be okay --- all they had to do at this point in time was wait. And that’s all they could do. Was wait. Directing both his care for others and boredom into something useful, the man made rounds throughout the church, personally going up to each and every stranger in an attempt to ease the nerves and hydrate the younger mass with juice boxes he had acquired from the basement.
Wesley’s conversation with an elderly man was cut short by the attention grabbing noises coming from the back of the church. His eyes squinting slightly as his mind tried to make sense of what exactly was happening. “Hey!” He yelled out, his legs carrying themselves to the scene as fast as they could. In efforts to halt the scuffle, the man pushed his way between the two strangers. “What the hell is going on?”
“Yeah, I know they had a website or something to check on that message they sent out, but I don’t think anyone’s actually look into it yet..? They were far too quick pulling us out of our homes for it to matter. Can you remember the adress? I have a computer, so that might be easier than a phone.” It was the least he could do to ease his, and the man’s, minds at this hour. “Great… good thing I know how to stay awake. If they’d been more clear people could have bought pillows and stuff with them.”
“No idea --- I have a feeling that this may be a huge enough deal to be on any major news outlet,” he responded with slight uncertainty. His eyes peering onto the man’s computer screen. “When you find something, please let me know.”
“You and me both. I’m trying not to worry so much, I’m sure everything’ll be fine. It’s not like it’s the end of the world.” She chuckled nervously wishing she had some wood to knock on hoping she hadn’t jinxed the situation.
“Let’s hope not,” he mused nervously, his voice trying it’s very hardest to conceal any sort of concern he may have actually had. “They should have at least informed us and given a heads up that we would actually be in here all night. I don’t understand how the hell I’m supposed to sleep here.”
Maddie: Ok, just.. I just need to know everyone is safe.
Maddie: I just.. I want you here, I have no idea what is going on except that it's some outbreak. What if I catch something? I'm panicking for two over here.
“Thank you for your kindness,” she stated with a sharp nod, taking a deep breath in. “I’m stressed alright. This confinement thing messes up with my entire schedule,” she complained. Situations such as the one she was being forced upon had a way of completely ruining her mood. “I’m sorry, I must come across as such a whiner, I just… I don’t deal well with this many people… And there’s just so much work to be done…”
“Well Miss --- I hate to break it to you, but I think we’ll be here for a bit. Give your anxiety and mind a rest. You can stress when you get out --- until then ---” the man trailed off slightly, his shoulders shrugging as his hands found their way into his pockets. “Until then, you might as well just have a seat. Maybe read a book. Or watch a film on your phone.”
The commotion going on around the brunette was not helping her stay calm. It only made everything worse. She felt like she couldn’t breathe, and as she pushed past a couple of people trying to find somewhere she could breathe, she ended up tripping on someone’s foot and nearly tumbled to the floor. “Oh, shoot, I’m really sorry, Sir” she apologized to the person, feeling awfully lightheaded.
Catching the woman before she completely ate shit across the church floor, the man couldn’t help but have a small chuckle escape his lips. His eyes trying their hardest not to meet the woman’s as she stood upright. “All is good. Don’t even worry about it,” he smiled, before slowly allowing his head to lift towards her. “Looks like you’re pretty stressed? Or sick? Are you alright?”
