STRENGTH to PROTECT what MATTERS. independent & selective blog for RIKU from the KINGDOM HEARTS series . written by STELLA ( she / her , 29 ) . carrd .
Not Koi and I crying over Riku, Himeko and their stories and similarities again,,, nahhh we would never,,,,
thinking of riku basically just being adopted by lightning and light and their dynamic in quadratum just has me all 'schoolgirl going teehee and kicking her feet' kind of giddy ngl
thinking of lightning just immediately being irritated by / not in favour of sora even when she first meets him, just because of what he's put riku through - or rather, what riku has been put through trying to find him. it's not really sora's fault, of course, it's a mix of their friendship bond and dream eater connection and everything else going on around / to them, but it definitely doesn't help the Bad Time that sora's going through in quadratum, knowing he's been worrying riku to death (nearly literally) .
sora does confess that he's glad that riku found people to be around and help him - he would have been worried that riku had been all alone searching for him for who knows how long, but now he knows he's had people taking care of him and looking out for him.
lightning and light are super vague / secretive about how they know each other and how they feel about each other, at least to riku, but i need riku to one day find out from lightning that she has feelings that she thinks are unrequited. riku just leans back and admits that it doesn't look unrequited where he's seeing from. and then lightning sees sora and how he interacts with riku, and even though riku's already confessed to her that he has feelings for sora and has kept them hidden because sora will be going back to be with kairi, she just shoves that same statement back at him because huh who would've guessed that these two have the pattern of being the biggest thing holding themselves back hdfjkgh
i know riku's too old to be considered as their actual child, but i need one or both of the adults to have a stroke at someone asking if he's their kid, for shits and giggles hjkdfhgk
@seachant is so cute i'm actually going to cry . . .
"oh my gosh." this mermaid melody idol transformation leaves her admiring her legs more than the pretty outfit. "riku look. this outfit comes with a microphone and everything." for a moment ariel forgets about the villain they're supposed to defeat, eyes wandering back to him. "can you transform, too?" / IDK A MERMAID MELODY AU ??
the transformation magic was so bright that even riku had to close his eyes against it, if only out of sheer surprise - but blinking away bright spots and taking in ariel's new form, he had to admit, he was a bit in awe.
every heir's form was different, tailored to a mixture of their kingdom, colours and personality - they were all unique, ranging from 'cute' to 'mature' to anything in between.
( sometimes, riku wondered why the transformations made them more human ; then, he was usually either too busy fighting to think about it, or chalked it up to 'magic', as some things tended to boil down to. )
"can you transform, too?"
he could, thanks to his own pearl in the locket upon his collarbones, though he rarely had to - the presence of more villains recently was reason to be uneasy.
riku glanced at the villain who was still distracted - blinded? dizzy? - before he let the magic wash over him, warm and familiar.
he was familiar with the fanciful wear of the merfolk, skirts and pearls and charms of all sorts - the suit of his transformation wear, however, always took a moment to get used to; mint green with an undershirt two shades darker, an emerald tie to compliment. the sleeves had small layers of frills that peeked out from under the cuffs, and the microphone felt like it had been crafted to fit his hand perfectly.
given the magic, it probably had.
his lips curled into a half-smirk a little bit prideful, softening into something kinder as he bumped the top of his microphone against hers; the pearls within both of them twinkled with familiarity.
"i might be a bit rusty."
potential genshin au rambles under the cut .
with HSR, it was a lot easier to think of an au because i knew i wanted it to be xianzhou-related, since i very much love dan heng's story and the xianzhou aesthetic & lore - but Genshin has been more difficult.
i have always associated riku with starlight / moon imagery in canon and aus, so him being in a similar scenario to columbina would fit, at least aesthetically (tied to the moon, white aesthetic, 'blindfold', lack of belonging) - though given his personality, being involved initially with the Fatui would probably be something more akin to his kh1 arc.
i haven't delved too much into Genshin lore (it is something i want to do someday), but since at least Fontaine it's been my understanding that (at least some) people in the Fatui are very much people with their own lives and families and such who also happen to be working as the Fatui to take over the gnoses and take control from the gods for whatever reason; this kind of doesn't work with the kh1 villains, but eh, maybe just have the Fatui actually be Evil tm and have riku part from them after a time because he grows more into his conscience and realises it's not right.
( perhaps his origins are along the lines of him spending the first long years of his life alone, and the Fatui were the ones to take him in and help him gain power, so he wanted to be better and faster and stronger, but growing up and maturing past his young teenage years and seeing the impact on those around them, he realised it wasn't the right way to go about it )
from that point on he ends up in nod krai, as far away from snezhnaya as possible (besides going to natlan, where there's an archon who he thinks would very much not appreciate his presence), and ends up finding silvermoon hall where he decides to remain, both because it's peaceful and because it's devoid of people (due to riku's personality and nature, he's normally not good with people and is also fearful people will automatically hate him after all he's done as part of the Fatui).
if i had to slip soriku into it (which i am legally obligated to do hdjfkgh) then, going off of the 'sun and moon' imagery i always have for them, perhaps sora is actually the natlan archon - and perhaps encounters riku on a trip to nod krai, one of the neighbouring regions, after everything in natlan has settled down. riku admits he avoided natlan because he didn't want to upset one of the archons, and sora's just mad because they could have been friends years ago dhfghkjh
i have such a bad writing itch but drafts / inbox aren't tickling my brain right so maybe like this for a drabble between our muses ????
( if anyone has any particular verses or scenarios they would like me to specifically write the drabble in , please let me know ( you can comment , inbox or dm ofc ! ) otherwise i'll probably just stick to canon stuff . or go feral with aus for those i know will tolerate my brainrot hdfkgh )
Thinking about how Riku really did go from KH1-CoM-KH2 worrying about being a darkness in peoples' lives, to KH3 where he essentially becomes the light tether/beacon that's able to guide Sora back to him/everyone after the timeline reset,,,, h,,,,
Shiba had never seen anything like these creatures. They didn’t resemble Noise—at least, not visually—but they certainly acted like them. They had a similar mindless quality about their behavior. Beasts on the prowl driven by pure instinct. They would gather and swarm, but also crawl over each other like ants to get their prize.
They weren’t even all that hard to erase. The issue was that they were unending and everyone was beginning to tire from the effort of the seemingly eternal battle. Even a Reaper didn’t have eternal stamina.
So, really, he’s quite grateful to take this moment to breathe after the newcomer erased those things. Shiba keeps himself alert, his eyes darting around, waiting for them to return and swarm them once again, but blessedly, that didn’t happen.
Hm… perhaps there was a trick to it he didn’t understand?
“What happened here?”
Shiba hesitates, then returns his gaze to the young man as he asks a second question.
“Did the—did those creatures do this?”
Shiba almost laughs, his face lifting in a mirthless smile as he shakes his head. For a split second, he considers lying. He didn’t owe this stranger the truth of the situation. Then again, if this strange ran into his crew, he might ask them. And they would realize that Shiba was running.
“No, I’m afraid those things weren’t the cause of the inferno that reduced Shinjuku to ash. One of the men living here sold out his home and his soul for power.”
Shiba shakes his head again, the smile vanishing from his face. That should suffice to be just enough of the truth.
“He left Shinjuku behind like this around three years ago.” Shiba says, gesturing to the grand view of Shinjuku’s apocalypse. “Now, everyone is trying to fix what that man extinguished.”
And to be honest, Shiba wasn’t entirely sure that their recreated city would even be Shinjuku anymore. The Inversion had wiped the slate clean, all aspects of what made this district unique had been burned away. Sure, Kaie had data from the old Shinjuku, but it couldn’t be everything, Shiba thought.
Which brought him to another interesting question.
“How did you even get in here, anyway? Those outside of the Game shouldn’t even be able to remember this place, never mind step inside.” Shiba raises his hand to cup his chin. “Just who are you?”
"One of the men living here sold out his home and his soul for power.”
Riku knows, has been told by Sora, Kairi, even Mickey, that he has come a long way since the start of their adventure. He knows, because he has felt it in himself, too, when he reflects on how he used to be and compares it to how he is now.
He doesn't think that sentences like that will ever stop settling a ball of dread in his chest, though ; even if the weight of it does lessen slightly over time.
"I see."
Is all he says for a while, letting the information and the following add-ons settle with the stone - Shinjuku, he notes, a place definitely unfamiliar in name even beyond its wasteland terrain.
He doesn't know if that's better or not ; maybe it is, so he doesn't have any partiality to this place from before it had been destroyed, like his Island.
Either way, the destruction of any world, even just a part of one, was a tragic thing.
“How did you even get in here, anyway? Those outside of the Game shouldn’t even be able to remember this place, never mind step inside.”
Riku always hated this part of the discussion, actually.
Maintaining World Order always has him biting his tongue, clacking his teeth shut, something of that nature, while he tries to think of what to say - some don't notice, others do, but even the ones that do are usually fine to let it slide if his explanation makes sense, or if he's vague enough to give the impression that he's escaping from something else.
"Just who are you?"
"... I'm Riku,"
He says, eventually - makes note of the word 'Game', because while it's not familiar, it feels important, like it tickles at something in the back of his mind, somehow, and he's not sure why,
"i'm... looking for a friend of mine."
An understatement, really.
"Sometimes I end up in places I'm not supposed to."
i have such a bad writing itch but drafts / inbox aren't tickling my brain right so maybe like this for a drabble between our muses ????

on an unrelated note, youtube has put me back in drakengard 3 hell and i am once again going feral for Disciple Riku .
give me all of the violence & gore & riku fighting the Heart Hotel & Naminé, the Intoners, to help Zero-Sora.
watching crystal go through the khux fandub has made me realise a lot of things:
Keychains being the way keyblades change form is actually a canonical thing (this is actually from the DDD lore but still)
Chirithies, at least, are tied to their Wielders, and so when their Wielders die, so do they - since Chirithy is a Spirit, it implies this might be the case with all Spirits / Dream Eaters (aka also Riku á la Sora being his Wielder / Dreamer) So in a really roundabout way, Riku still being alive could be a bit of a hint to Sora still being alive, even across universes, even if we didn't know because of Re:Mind Secret Ending and KH4 trailers
Spirits become Nightmares when their Wielders use too much / are corrupted by Darkness - so Nightmare!Riku could become a legitimate thing in instances such as Anti-Form, Rage Form or if Sora was to actually have become possessed by Xehanort, or if he falls to Darkness at any point
There were probably some other realisations but I've been watching for 6 hours and my brain is mush in the heat hjdkgh
fellas do you ever just get irrationally mad about how beautiful your muse is .
nini has infected me with mer vibe brainrot again i'm so sorry hdfhgkh
but man sometimes i just get mad at how riku can really pull off the like
silver / sun-dried white hair look and can absolutely make the whole pearlescent / pink / rainbow effect work on his skin and scales .
sir you're so beautiful it infuriates me .

rp partner: so idk how u feel about really dark threads and violence and gore and stuff but–
me, putting my finger against their lips: i’m in
I came here to brainrot about idolm@ster and the really cute idea of a Destiny Trio idol group ( perhaps a sub-group in a larger Destiny Trio , Sea-Salt Trio , Wayfinder Trio etc. group ?? ) but ended up brainrotting about soriku instead .
I'd say 'oops' or 'I apologise' but lbr nobody is surprised, and I also regret nothing, so hdfgkh
Hope everyone's been doing well recently !!
When a character is assured enough in their own power that they are completely relaxed in dangerous situations??? When that same character becomes tense and uncomfortable in the mundane because they don't have a framework for peace?????? When they help navigate violence for another character and in return that character helps them navigate softness??????????? That's all, your honour
Sora dying and being disconnected from (almost) everything yet still having his keyblade… Sora still having his keyblade because he still has a connection to Riku through their dream link… Sora’s keyblade that was supposed to be Riku’s but Riku’s heart gave it to Sora… Riku still protecting Sora even though he went to another dimension…
