I couldn't sleep one night so decided to have a walk to Media City which isn't too far from me. I decided to go light and carry only a couple of things with me which were my trusted Sony a6000, a couple of lenses and my tripod. Of course I knew I would be shooting long exposures with it being night so the tripod was a must. So off I went. Once I got to my destination I sent up camp. It was a warm night with a lot of people around still even at that time of night but I just put my headphones in and shot away, above are some of the images I captured and I hope you like them. I will be doing many more in the near future. Take care for now Wes

Goodbye my friends - Be safe.

So this is a personal rather than professional post for a change. Over the past year and a half I have come to know Vinay and Vamshi very well. 

I first met them while I was working for an events company and they would be working on the day and always saw them as professional. Then due to circumstances I got to know them as people and they are kind, passionate and genuine guys. 

We have said goodbye to them now as they are about to embark on the next chapter of their lives as married men back in India and the pictures are from the leaving do we had for them - and I even got infront of the camera for a change (I’m the ginger white guy that stands out haha).

Anyways, lads be careful, be safe, treat the women right and with respect, live life and have fun. 

I hope to see you both again - whether it’s in the UK or in India.

So at the weekend I was priviledged to be the photographer for a 30th birthday party in a bar on Deansgate, Manchester. 

As I’d never been to the venue before, I thought I’d set off early and get there with enough time to have a look around and set up - guests arrives at 8pm so I got to the venue at 5.30pm.

The venue - Elixir Tonics & Treats - is an amazing venue, but our function room that we were photographing in was in the basement, yes I hear all you suddenly gasp at the horror of knowing I had no light to work with haha.

I instantly thought to myself that this was going to be a nightmare, but, I am a professional and am being paid to do a job right - so we proceed to unload the gear and get ready.

Test shots done, spare gear within easy reach and now we are set for the night. Luckily the test shots came out good so we were set.

The guests arrived, the beer and cocktails flowed, and the evening was a great success.

We did a post wedding photoshoot with Janine and Joshua at the weekend and it was so much fun. 

They were amazing and let us do anything we wanted - which was so refreshing.

We went to an amazing gardens in Didsbury, Manchester called Fletcher Moss Botanical Gardens and the scenery was amazing - the gardens themselves were stunning.

I brought along a young photographer who is learning the trade so we set up about an hour earlier than the bride and groom arrived so that we could scope out the area and highlight places that would be ideal for photographs.

So a massive thank you to the bride and groom - Janine and Joshua.

Next up is a trash the dress session which will be amazing.

Why?

People wonder why I do photography, why I put myself through the hard work, dedication and stress of delivering a service at people’s events..

It’s simple really - The satisfaction of being able to create memories that will last a lifetime and for the feeling of being accepted into someone’s biggest of days, that they trust me to evoke emotion into pictures.

For me, it’s not always about the money. Yes of course it’s a business and, let’s face it, photography is investment heavy. But it’s more than that, it’s getting that reaction back off the people we are delivering the service to. I’ve had women (and men) cry when they have seen the pictures for the first time.. why? Is it because they are amazing pictures? Not always. I mean they have to be good and in the style of the clients but it’s because they bring back memories.. feelings of that day or time in their lives.

That’s why I do what I do… Passion

Olivia’s Christening was a blessing and a honor to be involved in. Everyone that was there made the day truly special but it was my job to capture the various personalities and special moments so that the memories would last a life time. 

I must say before I start that both Rebbecca and Mick (Olivia’s mum & dad respectively) were fantastic throughout the day and treated me as a close friend and trusted my guidance when needed.

The morning started at St Teresas Church in Irlam for the ceremony, having only ever been to 3 christenings in my life, it was a surreal experience but it was lovely. The priest was fantastic with me - sometimes vicars/priests don’t allow photographers to do much, usually involving being told to stand in one place or not use the flash etc - but I was given a free roam so long as I didn’t interrupt. 

The ceremony was good but I was conscious about getting in the way too much so I kind of stayed to the side and used my telephoto lens which meant I didn’t have to get close. The challenging part of the ceremony was the fact that Olivia really didn’t want to be there - which was difficult as she was the sole purpose for the event - oh to be a child and not know what’s happening haha.

After the ceremony, everyone headed over to Corky’s Bar for the after party and the atmosphere was amazing.

Olivia became more relaxed which helped massively and she really began to enjoy herself - it was a lovely sight to see her dancing around and smiling. So I got out my 50mm 1.8 and went snapping candid shots around the party.

We decided to do the formals outside on a lovely bit of decking which went down a storm. 

Overall it was a fun, challenging and exciting day that I feel blessed to be part of - so thank you to the families and guests involved and I hope all are happy with the outcome of the shots.

I’m going to start an ‘Abandoned Building’ series of photographs. Here is an example of one I did in an abandoned bar in Manchester

Introduction

I’ve been told by many different people that it is actually good to have a blog so that people know who is behind the camera - so here goes.

As the name of the page kind of already gives away, my name is Wez Wilson and have been doing photography now for many years, it started as a hobby like most people and eventually became more serious to the point it became a profession. Which is great really, who doesn’t enjoying doing something they love AND getting paid for it :) 

So what to say about my business? I love what I do - first and foremost it’s a passion - that is why I don’t say I do one particular kind of photography. I love it all, and to be honest, by not doing the same thing all the time you stay fresh with creativity. I will take my camera everywhere, and I do mean EVERYWHERE (ask the missus she will verify this), you never know when you might see something that looks amazing and if you don’t have your gear then you miss out and regret it.

So I do it all - Portraiture, landscape, wildlife, street, creative and events/special occasions - continuously investing heavily into gear to ensure I get the right images for me and my clients.

Which do I prefer? It depends what mood I’m in but I must say the most challenging and most rewarding for me has to be event photography. It essentially is live shooting and most of the time you really do have to think on your feet and adapt to almost all situations and surroundings. If you make a mistake, you can’t just redo it - this is a once in a lifetime chance to get it right and get the shots needed - pressure much? I do believe so but it is so much fun.

So that’s a little intro into me - plenty more to come so keep peeled. 

I will be doing regular blogs - mostly about my experiences whilst shooting and live updates when on set etc, but also blogs about photography in general; tips, reviews and so much more.

I hope you both enjoy and learn from my future blogs and that my experiences can help you, whether you are photographing for a hobby or for a living.
