This.
Someone finally explained it
FUCKING THIS THO.
THERE IS NO âOUTSIDE.â
THERE IS NOÂ âWORLD.â
THERE IS NOTHING.
there should be a such thing as a medical detective. you should be able to hire a doctor to figure out what the fuck is going on with you come hell or high water by consulting whatever specialists they can get their hands on, connecting your constellation of symptoms, etc, instead of 10000 different doctors for every distinct bone in ur body that all just kinda go "dang that sucks idk" when you present with more than one fucking symptom
Stretching across time and space, I find you again.
I used to roam the earth so freely. I used to walk with such life in each step I took. I have been lying here for a very long time now. How do I begin to move again?
Help them! / Sorry...
no disabled person should have their parents be their only choice for support/caregivers. itâs not a privilege to be stuck with them and you donât have to be grateful.
The thing about chronic pain is once youâve had it for long enough you canât remember what not being in pain felt like. You only recognize it as ânot as debilitating as usualâ or âvery much more fucking debilitating than usualâ so you have no grasp anymore of what itâs like to do things without factoring your pain levels in. People who arenât in constant pain think that if youâre having a âgood pain dayâ it means youâre not in pain and should be able do to things. But having a good pain day doesnât mean youâre not in pain, it means youâre in less than excruciating pain. Maybe your pain is low enough that you can ignore it. But people who donât live in pain donât understand that ignoring it takes energy, and even if itâs low enough that we can ignore it doesnât mean itâs gone and it doesnât mean we want to go out and do a bunch of things that will make it so bad it cannot be ignored.
i may be stuck in this body⊠but i will make it mine. / i will be everything i ever wanted.
i am supposed to have the energy⊠to do stuff...?
every? day??
iâve started looking at weight and health the way i look at class and income and it really puts a lot of things into a new perspective.
let me explain: in america at least, the lower class have significantly worse health outcomes, even when accounting for other factors. just being poor is enough to make your overall health worse. we donât know that being fat makes your health directly worse, like the data just isnât there, but for a moment, pretend it does.
imagine going to the doctor with a health problem and the doctor looking at your chart and saying well, this problem will be less severe if you go up an income bracket. have you thought about becoming rich? it would really help. start by saving a little money every month.
ridiculous, right?? very few people successfully go from working class to rich, it just doesnât happen on a large scale in society. maybe for a time you pick up some overtime hours, spend a little beyond your means, and appear rich. but eventually you burn out, your car needs to be repaired, and you return to being working class.
we do have this data: only some people can successfully lose large amounts of weight, and only a tiny fraction of people who lose that weight actually keep it off for more than a year. telling people to lose weight for their health is just absurd because they almost certainly canât do it any more than they can double their income for their health.
and yet i see it everywhere. a little poster in my work breakroom tells me to improve my blood pressure by losing weight! a psa on the radio says you need to take care of your heart by losing weight! we canât even conclusively prove that weight is the cause rather than just correlated with a lot of these problems but here it is offered anyway: have you tried being rich?
You hit the nail on the head. A lot of people tend to try and invalidate fatphobia as a form of oppression by saying its not an immutible quality like race or sexuality or gender. The old âyou can lose weight, i canât become white/straight/cisâ argument.
Thatâs because fatphobia is a lot more like classism; i.e. itâs a form of bigotry that is only TECHNICALLY changeable. Theyâre both seen as a lot more changeable than they actually are, for all the reasons youâve listed.
Today I was thinking about disability (which isâŠnot infrequent lmao)
So, when I was a teenager, I had a shitty bike. No matter how many times we took it in for tuneups, no matter what I did, it S-U-C-K-E-D.
And I would bike to meet my girlfriend and then we would bike around (an unimaginable amount of energy now!!!). And I would occasionally complain about how shitty it was, especially when I was struggling to keep up. And my girlfriend would just kinda make fun of me (there are several reasons we are no longer together lol) and tell me I was just bad at riding it.
And then one dayâŠ
She tried my bike.
She lasted about a block, and she was cursing the entire time.
I wish I could get people to ride my bike. Mostly doctors, but other people too. Get on my fucking bike. Ride a fucking block. Tell me how this is fine.
She lasted about
a block, and she was cursing
the entire time.
Beep boop! I look for accidental haiku posts. Sometimes I mess up.
The pain itself has gotta be like the fifth worst thing about having chronic pain if I'm keeping it real with you
Things that suck about having chronic pain are like
Not allowed to have fun without being aware of the Health Consequences. I should be at the club. I should be doing k
The brainfog and fatigue from spending all your energy on Being In Pain making it hard to do anything else. Sucks for me as a writer cause my whole thing is that I like Thinking and Forming Sentences. Also includes things like "making my own doctor appointments"
Ableds being weird about it like they've never seen a cane user before
Ableds being weird about it like they've never heard of sitting down before
Oof ouch
Letâs goooooooo
on a sidenote it bothers me how people seem to think that people who have poor hygine from depression just need a âwakeup callâ of sorts. when in reality, you really do just need to use empathy. That person very likely does know that their behavior is unhygenic, and it doesnât always help to point it out. Thatâs not saying that someone might not need a push or help, but i think people fail to understand that in most cases it isnt a person feeling that hygine is unimportant, itâs an inability to take care of oneself due to them not seeing themselves as something worthy of taking care of. Or itâs due to a lack of motivation to do anything. or many other reasons. I just think itâs something thatâs best treated with kindness and empathy..
