“Is that what you told Joshua Washington? I know you wanted to cure him. But nothing you did worked, you know..”
“I had the permission of his parents. And then his, when he came of age.” He pursed his lips, observing her closely. “I cannot talk about my other patients any further than that.”

“They told me Beth was killed.” Jessica began to run her finger along the desk. “Hannah… we didn’t mean for her to get so upset…”

He sighs. “Look, I just… it shook me up, okay? That’s all.”

I don’t like them innocent
Josh looks like he hasn’t sleep in weeks. But he’ll always blame it on something. Pointing his finger, because he’ll never take the blame. Until he does, until he does and it tears him apart. But he wished that Dr. Hill’s tone didn’t sound like that. Didn’t make him want to curl in on himself and clap his hands over his ears.
“It doesn’t help.”
Of course, that’s the first thing he says. But Josh says that about all his medication.
“I don’t feel any different– That’s a lie, I do, But it’s a bad kind of different.”
A poor awful mess of a boy sat before him and Alan was truly trying to help him. Josh had gone through enough with the death of his sisters, the neglect of his parents, the depression that he had been dealing with for most of his life. He didn’t wish for Josh to suffer as he was. He listened to the unspecific answer, feeling a familiar routing starting again. He took of the notepad and pen, point puncturing the page. “How is it bad? Do you feel more depressed? Do you hear voices? How has it negatively affected you?” He couldn’t help him without knowing exactly how he felt.
“So… Because we were so close he… What hid more with me? Or just… Didn’t feel those dark feelings as much?” Chris asked, he’d never felt so lost as he did over this and he just wanted some straight answers. “Look no.. No therapist bullshit okay in your opinion is there… is there anything I could have done to help Josh?”
“Both,” he answered, since the fact was that it was rarely one thing or the other. People were complex, complicated creatures and the way they operated was due to multiple factors. He paused a moment at the blunt question, wanting partially to sigh. Alan had gone over that very question in his mind over and over. Could he have prevented what happened? He shook his head, “The study of human mind isn’t the equivalent of having a crystal ball.”
