JANET’S NEW VIDEO!! I need a rainy day in my life right now.
Another song I switched back and forth from on my commute this morning was Tame Impala’s “The Moment” off of their new album Currents. The entire album is a psychedelic R&B trip and I highly recommend it. I’ve been listening to their singles the past few months and knew the album was going to be amazing but finally had a chance to listen to the entire album.Â
One that stood out aside from the already released singles was “The Moment”. Fun, trippy, yet makes you want to dance (not in a sashay kind of way). I know i’m going to listen to this until I grow tired of, it’s just what I do. This will remain in rotation for a while. The album has already been rated Best New Music and I’m almost certain this will be one of NPR’s 2015 albums of the year (favorite time of the year). Listen to it now, though. NOW!
Robyn & La Bagatelle Magique has released their second single “Set Me Free” off their upcoming LP (it was just announced). It was a great way to star beautiful Friday morning, commuting to work, trying not to sashay down the street while listening to it. I actually remember her performing this when she was touring with Röyksopp last summer (amazing concert). Anything Robyn puts out is wonderful, fun, and fantastic. Let’s be real.
The EP will be out August 7th.Â
Janet Jackson. New Single. and HELL YAS! That is all.
I have been OBSESSED with RĂłisĂn Murphy’s new album Hairless Toys. EVERY single time I listen to this album, I fall more and more in love with it. Unfortunately, a lot of people who I’ve shared it with were like “It’s no Overpowered.” Well no shit. It’s still RĂłisĂn Murphy in her amazing glory, just in a different way. It is an absolutely fantastic album that continues to grow as you continue to listen to it. Over and over and over again. Like Overpowered,  I think this will grow to be another cult classic. It’s just gonna take some time.Â
For me though, it took less than a hot second.Â
The video for “Evil Eyes” has come out, directed by Murphy herself, and it. is. fabulous. Please listen to this album fully, then listen to it again, and then finally one more time. Then tell me you’re in love. But first watch this video.
This editing job has been intense and great but I’ve slacked a little on this blog. Now that there’s some downtime I can write.
Jill Scott released Golden Moments, her greatest hits album today.  I’ve been listening to it all this afternoon so it’s put me in that mood. If you’re a Jill Scott fan, you know what I’m talkin about. Along with the greatest hits album, I’ve listened to this particular single “Fools Gold” too. Following your heart can sometimes lead to foolish decisions. AMEN JILL, SANG IT!
Happy Friday! I’ve been super busy with this new freelance gig (woo!) which means less time to sit and write things about music that I love (boo!). However I had a minute to write and am LOVING this new Bomba Estéreo single “Tú Sólo Tú”. You don’t have to understand Spanish to get up and dance to this. Try to see them live if you can. It’s just one big latin electronic dance party. Psychadelic Cumbia, as they call it. Get into it.
Hairless Toys, the new album from Roisin Murphy is out today after waiting for 8 whole years for another album! Although Overpowered kept me pretty sustained, I am living for this new album right now! I mean every song on this album is very intimate in its own form but cohesive as a whole. It’s everything I wanted and more!
Even if you’re not a Roisin Murphy fan (who are you anyway!?), you should still give this a whirl. Now I just wait in anticipation for her to announce her US tour (god I hope she does). Amazing album, as expected.
Even though today is very Summer-ish, here is my playlist for Spring 2015. I hope you enjoy!
What do you get when you combine the voice of Rye Rye, attitude of Azealia Banks, and beats similar to M.I.A.?Â
Leikeli47 (pronounced lah-KAY-lee).Â
My dumbass thought it was pronounced like Lykke Li. My bad.Â
Anyway, I stumbled upon this album randomly and decided to give it a whirl. While running my fastest 6 mile-er today (gloating moment - 7:38 mile, whaaaat), I listened to it and really enjoyed it. It’s raw, it’s funny, it’s witty, and clever. I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t poppin’ my shoulders as I was running.
If you want a few highlights, check out "F**k The Summer Up,” “Two Times a Charm,” and “Heard em Say.” Also, check out this skit on the album. Huh-larious.
The entire album is worth listening to. Oh shit!
Performing his first new solo songs in seven years, this soft-spoken Swedish singer left an imprint at the Tiny Desk that was gentle and long lasting.
It’s a beautiful Spring day and nothing better than to hear Jose Gonzalez’s soothing voice. Well, there is, actually watching him perform a little tiny concert via NPR. It’ll only take 12 minutes of your time to watch but 12 minutes you won’t regret wasting. Or you can just put it on to listen in the background. I enjoy watching him perform though.
If you haven’t figured it out by now how OBSESSED I am with RĂłisĂn Murphy, here’s another link to add to the list. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve listened to “Exploitation” off her upcoming Hairless Toys album.Â
Now here’s a remix of the single by Falco Benz that is just as great.Â
Yes. yes yes yes to Ciara’s new single “Dance Like We’re Making Love”! This is just another sexy jam to add under her incredible belt. I can only imagine what the video (fingers crossed) is going to be like. Ciara dancing is not only hypnotizing, but it makes you want to learn every.single.move while trying to look as sexy as she does (or maybe it’s just me).Â
Baby making music. Added to my Grinder playlist. Super excited about her album coming out.
I’ve had this song in my head all day long from the moment I woke up. I’ve listened to this album non stop but today has been a “Future People” day for me.Â
That voice of hers is hypnotic and makes you want to scream like she does. To me the song isn’t long enough. I want to stop in my tracks and yell “CHILDREN! GIVE A LITTLE!” just a few more times before it’s over. But you have to listen to the full album. It’s incredible.
Don't you dare miss this
Check out NPR’s First Listen: Alabama Shakes Sound and Color. Their past two singles, “Gimme All Your Love,” “Don’t Wanna Fight,” and now “Future People” have been incredibly good. I love that waining voice of hers. I wish I could scream sing like that. Below is what NPR is saying about the album:
“Brittany Howard and her band develop a vision of rock, blues and Southern soul that reaches high but remains practical in its reclamation of what works.”
I’ve GOT to see them in concert. The closest they’re coming so far in their tour is at Hunter Mountain for the 2015 Mountain Jam AND on my Birthday! Thankfully we have a house up there. Yas!
Zero 7 is now streaming their upcoming EP3 (EP1 and EP2 came out in the early days of their career) on Soundcloud. It features Jose Gonzalez, Only Girl, and Danny Pratt. They’ve already released “Last Night” featuring Jose Gonzales. It’s not their first collaboration with the Gonzalez, of course. For those who didn’t know that, check out their 2006 album The Garden, which also features Sia, one of the original female voices on their first album Simple Things. Hell, just check out their entire damn discography! I’ve been obsessed with them ever since I saw them in at the 9:30 Club in DC over 10 years ago.Â
As much as I wish Sia would come back and do another collaboration with them, I won’t hold my breath. It was a match made in heaven! But she had to move on and grow, which of course she did. We’ve all seen what she’s become. A music genius! You go gurl!
All things considered, this is exciting as it’s been a few years since they’ve come out with a new album. I hope you are as excited as I am!Â
