@giftober 2023 | Day 14: Reunion
You can go to your car and the rest of the directions will take you home. Or... Iook for a girl in a red hat, who's waiting for you with an alternate plan.
Why June and Nick Are No Longer in Sync
Thereâs something quietly heartbreaking in watching June and Nick drift further apart. not because they love each other any less, but because they live by different emotional codes. And they are on different pages now. Completely
(And honestly Iâm not prepared for what will happen next)
At the core of it is this:
June doesnât experience betrayal the way Nick does.
She doesnât carry guilt the same way. To her, love justifies everything.
June lives in a world where love stands above morality, above commitment.
She doesnât cheat out of malice. she follows her heart. And so, she No longer feels guilt.
Every time she sees Nick she cheats on Luke and she knows it. She wants to be kissed by him. She is completely melting in his arms
She separates emotion from obligation:
âLuke is family. I stay with him. But Nick is the heart.â
She doesnât care about infidelity anymore. Sheâs not hiding. Sheâs not lying.
Sheâs just loving fully, impulsively, recklessly. And for her, thatâs enough. Even devotion it is
Nick, on the other hand, is governed by a painfully strict inner code. He canât be with June while sheâs still with Luke even if he loves her with every breath.
He holds it in. Thatâs why we saw him stepping back when he found out about Luke in 2s.
Remember the moment he delivered Lukeâs message to June?
âHe loves you.â
Nick is the kind of man who wouldnât sleep with his teenage wife, Eden,
even knowing it could cost him his life. Because he is loyal to June. That simple
June even told him, âJust do it. Survive.â
His marriage to Rose was a conscious choice to let go
He genuinely tried to move on.
He told Rose about June. (I was shocked at first and didnât understand why he would do that??? But now I get it).
Who does that, unless theyâre trying to build something clean? He tried to be loyal to Rose. He tried to let June go because she chose Luke. He even didnât kiss June in s5!
And thatâs why he feels like ânobodyâ to her now!!!!
Because in Nickâs world, if you choose your husband âyou didnât choose me. And he canât be someoneâs second. You canât be with both.
Heâs either the one â or heâs no one đ
When Nick says,
âDo I? (Have a wife and a baby) cause Iâm not so sure I do when Iâm around youâ
itâs not romantic. Itâs torment.
Heâs horrified by how easily she makes him forget everything else - his duties, obligations as he said.
his wife, his unborn child, the life heâs tried to build.
(Therefore what Rose said about âgood manâ must have hit Nick hard)
Heâs losing himself. He doesnât recognize the man he becomes when sheâs around. the man who throws away caution, responsibility, and moral clarity, just to be near her. And even worse - to save her dumbass husband!đ±
Itâs fear.
Heâs not just overwhelmed by love.
Heâs ashamed of how powerless he is against it. Unfortunately
Because this kind of love doesnât just cost him his heart. it threatens to cost him who he is
And the tragedy is:
June doesnât even see it.
Because for her, loving him is freedom.
For him, loving her is sacrifice.
