clear channel (now iheartradio) published a list of 165 songs after 9/11 that they "strong discourage" stations from playing. the list was overwhelmingly rock music and lots of anti-war protest songs
record labels make most of their money off songwriting credits so even if the performer isn't a songwriter, they will force them in the room with real songwriters to get that credit so they are also robbing real songwriters
the biggest "label" in the US after the big 3 is all the indie labels so there is still plenty of great music out there being made but it isn't being pushed by spotify (whom BlackRock owns a huge stake in)
iheartradio is nothing compared to K-LOVE, the one billion dollar "non profit" christian radio industry
