It’s not a confession she expected.

There’s a moment of silence, Nancy’s expression kind as her mouth curls into an almost apologetic smile; to harbor feelings for years couldn’t have been easy, and for that, something within her chest aches. 

Still, this admission could help the other to move on, could help them find someone who returns their feelings — and if that’s the end result, Nancy's happy to listen.

❝ While I’m glad you could finally get this out, I’m really very happy with Henry. So friends it is, okay? And don’t be too upset or anything — with college right around the corner, you’ll meet plenty of people, you know? ❞

While Nancy knows her mother is beautiful, she very much doubts the stranger’s implications are innocent. There’s a reason there are different descriptive words for others; beautiful, sexy, cute, pretty — and to hear her mother described as only hot causes Nancy’s nose to wrinkle with palpable distaste.

Intelligent, witty, kind, a fighter.

     While Henry’s expression can’t be seen through the silk blindfold over her eyes, it isn’t difficult for Nancy to imagine the smirk he must be wearing. 

You can lie down, he says — as though she currently has any ability to move when her limbs are held down by a telekinetic force. 

               Please.

❝ You haven’t exactly left much for me to do other than that, you know. ❞ It’s a teasing thing, full of mirth and warm affection even as Nancy’s breathing stutters. She’s facing whatever direction the sound came from, though it isn’t easy to lift her head more than an inch or so.

     In truth, this is an incredibly vulnerable position; one that sees her bare and exposed on their bed alone, waiting for whatever move Henry plans to make — which is exactly what she’d asked him for. Even so, to feel so heated even before the damn earmuffs are on is more than she’d bargained for, and his teasing is doing nothing to quell the pent up want. 

 ❝ Are you just planning to look at me until I combust? If so, I think I want off this ride. ❞ It’s so easy to laugh with him, no matter how new an experience may be. After all, Nancy can still smell him, and she can still hear his footsteps when he approaches — christ.

     When she senses Henry moving close to her, the shiver Nancy lets out is involuntary — to not know what he’s doing, to not be able to watch his expressions and guess what’s coming is keeping her on a near-damning edge. 

                                  ( No doubt on display through the flush of pale skin. )

Hey all, I just wanted to apologize for being so slow around here lately — I took the weekend off to just chill and play games, and with my job being M-F, I’m not usually here during the week! I’ll be around more this weekend and I’m really going to try and bang most of my owed stuff out. I love you all, and as always, I’m available on discord (which is easier for me during the week!)

     Henry Creel loathes September.  Perhaps almost as much as it seems to loath him.

It feels as if all of the significant traumas in his life occurred in this month.  It was September when he was first taken to Hawkins Lab;  it was September when he tried to take his life at just ten;  it was September when he broke out of his prison cell and began life as the world’s most unfortunate fugitive.

         And it was September when Doctor Brenner had stolen him and Nancy away.

Things had been improving.  Before the doctor had enacted this latest plot, Henry’s anxiety at this point in the year was at an all time low.  His appetite suffered slightly, and his nights became a little more sleepless, but his mood was largely unaffected.  To have all of that progress stolen–  and to know it’s been stolen, and not being able to do anything to take it back himself–  fills him with defeat.  With shame.

And that’s not even mentioning what he’d done after Nancy had rid him of his chip.

Her gentle touch disturbs him from his thoughts.  He all but jumps out of his skin, but she’s so familiar to him that it takes but a second to realign himself.  It’s her.  He’s in his room.  Everything’s okay.  His heightened heartbeat sits like a restless rabbit in his chest, a sharp breath taken in through his nose.

                                                                      Get it together.  Get a damn grip.

      ❝ Morning, ❞  he replies, and though it’s bland, he tries his best to inject some feeling into it.  The lack of a ‘good’ was entirely purposeful, though.  He hasn’t had a ‘good’ morning in quite a while.

               The offer’s enticing.  He’d be lying if he said it wasn’t.

                                                                                      ❝ … where do you want to go? ❞

     Henry’s sharp intake of breath isn’t lost upon Nancy; she can feel the rapid beat of his heart finally slowing — can tell he’s trying to ground himself, trying to calm himself down. Her arms tighten around the other’s frame, though Nancy’s lips are gentle against Henry’s skin. Tender, soothing kisses are placed wherever she can reach, her face pressed to his shoulder even while she speaks.

❝ We could go back to the cabin. ❞ They’d spent quite a bit of time there after they’d escaped Hawkins Lab, and it’d proved quite a healing, cathartic experience for them both.❝ It helped last time, and I just think it’d be better for us to not be here, you know? ❞ 

     Here meaning Hawkins, of course.

❝ You’re safe. You know I’ve got you, right? ❞ It’s a soft breath of a thing, Nancy’s mouth pressed to Henry’s cheek while she holds him. Henry is always trying to be the strong one — but he doesn’t have to be.

     Not with her.

❝ We could leave today, if you wanted. ❞ 

     In truth, there’s no reason not to — he owns his shop and can alter his hours as he pleases, and they’re both so ahead of their schooling that an absence wouldn’t matter much; the beginning of the school year hardly matters anyway.
