(or whoever wrote his public statement). Google the full thing, but I’ll paraphrase: *** He says that the stories are true. He showed his penis to women, and says at the time it felt ok because he asked them first. Now he realizes that when you’re in a position of power over another person, asking them to look at your dick isn’t really a question. Instead it’s a predicament for them. He now sees that power includes one’s admiration for another. *** What really stood out to me was when he said, “I learned yesterday the extent to which I left these women who admired me feeling badly about themselves and cautious around other men who would never have put them in that position.” That part. The fact that when it happens to us, we carry that ish with us long after it’s over. *** As women we constantly dodge so much from men, that we start to keep our guard up at all times. He might just be saying hello, meanwhile I am bracing myself for distress. The position of power doesn’t have to be from a boss at work or celebrity admiration like Louis C.K. said. *** Men are larger and stronger than most women. That “power” exists before hello. As a woman, I already walk out into the world feeling surrounded by predators long before hello. He doesn’t see the time I was in a children’s bookstore and a man unzipped his pants and jiggled his dick at me. He doesn’t see that I was approached at the mall by a man asking “what’s it going to take for me to get up in that pussy?” Nor does he see the time that I was sitting in traffic and a man in the next car honked his horn and exposed himself out his window. He doesn’t see the time a man chased me out of a subway station. *** So the thing guys want to ask is, “well how are we supposed to get to know you?” And that’s one I can’t answer. Read me: @garyvee always coming with the facts. While I wouldn’t say that negativity *always* wins the short game, I would say negativity *can only* win the short game. And positivity *always* wins the long game. I try to distance myself from the negative. It can be suffocating. It’s not sustainable. But still I try to approach negativity with compassion. I haven’t walked in that person’s shoes. I haven’t lived through the things they have lived through to make them treat the world that way. This doesn’t mean I have to allow it to bring me down. This just means that I have to have enough self-love to take the space I need to protect my own energy. This just means I have enough love for the other person to understand that their battle is not mine to fight.
