*gross  sobbing*  roy  would  definitely  be  there  every  step  of  the  way  of  Elicia’s  life  in  Hughes’  stead.  it’d  be  a  fine  balance  between  work  and  being  there  for  Elicia  and  i’m  sure  that  team  mustang  would  definitely  be  a  huge  part  of  it  too  ???  like  a  big  family.  and  lots  of  visits  to  Ed  and  Al  and  Winrey  too  for  babysitting.  &&  i’m  tagging @wherespapa  for  reasons.  :’)

Elysia meets Joseph Parker on the day of her fifth birthday. All in all, it’s a pretty big day for her. Five is actually quite a big deal, as her mother always seems to be telling her. And she believes it, too, because five year olds get to do all the stuff that four year olds can’t.

But, despite all of the wonderful things that happen to her day, one atrociously horrible thing happens to her. She get’s lost. And not just in the park or a store, as she always seems to be getting lost at, but in the busy area of Central’s train station. Her mother could be virtually anywhere, and just the thought of it brings tears to her eyes.

What if mama got on a train without her? They were supposed to be going to Resembool to visit the Elrics, but she is deeply regretting the decision now. “Hello?” Her voice is drowned out by all the people, and she gets jostled roughly, thrown to the ground. The person doesn’t even look up.

Elysia cries harder.

Her nose wrinkles at the thought of willingly taking a bath. Baths suck. Last time she even got soap in her eyes! You don’t know pain until your eyes burn from supposedly “tear free” soap. Lies and slander, all of it.

“Okay,” Elysia says hesitantly as she bends down to scoop up toys off the floor. “But what if my eyes start burning again?”

@ all the roys following me, I wrote a little drabble for Papa!Roy because I was earlier inspired by the lovely @ltcolonelhughes (go check Alyssa’s Hughes out,, they’re both very precious people)

Elysia Hughes grows up without a father.

This fact is well known by virtually everyone. Because everyone knows that Maes Hughes had died when she was barely out of the delicate stages of infancy. And it is tragic, horribly so, but Elysia doesn’t even remember her birth father. To her, he’s a once-was and a could-be. Someone who she would’ve been close too had she known him, someone she would’ve loved dearly.

But Elysia Hughes grows up without a father, so she’d never quite understand the bond between father and daughter, she would never experience the could've beens. Except that’s a lie, because she’s always had a father. His name is Roy Mustang, and because of him she’d never know what not having a dad feels like, will never experience the loneliness that comes with said feeling.

The man would read her bedtime stories and tuck her in as a child. He’d attend every single play she had ever been in, took her to every event her schools made mandatory. He scolded her, he laughed with her, and he loved her. Roy Mustang is her dad, and her most trusted friend.

Sometimes though, late at night when she stares up at the ceiling, Elysia wonders if she should feel guilty for not viewing Maes Hughes as her father. Everybody always tells her how the dead man adored her. How he had pictures upon pictures of her, and how she was all he could talk about. It sort of feels like she’s doing the man a great injustice, like she’s shitting on his very memory.

The girl would wake up the next day in the worst of moods, wallowing in her own guilt. And then her dad, the only one she’s ever really known, will send her a smile whenever he sees her and she just can’t feel any guilt for loving him more than the could of been dad.

Elysia Hughes grows up without a father, but she grows up with a dad. And sometimes that’s all the ever really matters.
