hello fellow systems π
have any of you guys been on ssris (particularly zoloft) and if so, how did it affect your plurality / dissociation?
weβve been a lot switchier than normal and our dissociative/memory barriers have gone up, and weβre trying to figure out if itβs a new medication thing or a system reorganization thing. hopefully itβs something temporary!
I hope you don't mind the long reblog-reply.
The short answer is "Yes and we hated it".
We were put on fluoxetine and seroquel to start, well before the majority of us were aware that we were a system. Fluoxetine is Prozac for the uninitiated and seroquel is an antipsychotic. This was our psychiatrist's attempt to "cure the underlying cause" of our dissociation (the host thought we had DPDR because of the consistent dissociation). He thought it was caused by our high depression and anxiety. Our time being on both was incredibly disorienting. I don't know how to properly explain what it did to us, but friends who observed us during this time said that we were "essentially a carousel of people switching in and out". It made the amnesia between us even worse. Several of us split off to try to keep us functional, including me.
We ended up forgetting the entire year we were on it and discovering that we were a system because of the upheaval. It got so bad that several of our friends admitted to us that they considered calling wellness checks on us often. It caused more emotional amnesia, greyouts, and full blackouts that we have not recovered from. We eventually quit both cold turkey and stabilized somewhat, and now we are on a super low Lexapro dose and our psychiatrist is considering moving us to an SNRI.

SSRIs can seriously fuck up a system and we are just one example. Several of our system friends had similar experiences. I'm not telling you to not take your medication if it helps you, just providing our story because the first hand account might benefit you and others.
