; ꩜ I’m in a very complicated situation atm that would take at least a paragraph or two to explain, but to put it simply, I was born and raised in a religion where a queer lifestyle is pretty much unacceptable, so i can’t be out with my family and a lot of other people in my life. I also can’t leave because I would lose too much. But I have a good few friends that I can talk about it with, so it’s not too crazy bad, but still very hard. (I might make an in depth post about it later for anyone that might be interested)

I’m annotating my copy of Solitaire and I got to this paragraph, where Tori is talking to Lucas:

And then I remembered that Michael ALSO gave Tori a drink way later on in the book:

Lucas gives Tori Sprite. He hasn’t actually spoken to Tori in years, and despite being “in love” with her, he can’t remember her favorite drink. Despite her literally drinking diet lemonade constantly, like it’s giving Vincent with the toast.

I think this is a great example of the hollowness of Lucas’s grand love for Tori. He remembers her favorite drink is lemonade, but he gets something adjacent to it because his version of Tori is far removed from the old one. It’s artificial, just like the Sprite he gave her.

Michael, someone who genuinely cares for this Tori, gets her favorite drink right. And you can tell by her internal monologue how much this means to her.
