My reading wrap up for June! I feel like maybe Iām finally getting back into the flow of things, I actually had a productive reading month!
I blew through the Flesh and Fire series like crazy, but I could NOT put it down. I also didnāt read it the āproperā way, but I was enjoying it way more than Blood and Ash. I feel like JA really nailed this series, it didnāt feel like it dragged, it dealt with some really heavy subject matter in a tasteful way, the miscommunications were limited and they were more understandable than in BOA (IMO). Also, I just loved the growth of Nyktos and Sera and how their relationship developed. It was really sweet and had me rooting the whole time for them. Poppy and Cas Iām always back and forth on, idk.
Gold wasā¦a book. I really enjoyed the first 3 plated prisoner books, and it felt like it had momentum. This book felt like an epic stall out. Most of what Auren and Slade go through could have been majorly condensed. The Os and Rissa story line feels kind of slapped in there, and the Malina and Assassin story line was pretty random too, although it actually went somewhere and had a point. Slade was acting like a stupid teenager the whole book āwhy wonāt my magic work??ā Maybe because you wonāt eat or sleep you doofus, listen to your freaking brother š¤¦āāļø. Auren keeps getting her ass handed to her to pad the runtime, aaaaaand yeah, that was this book.
Game On was also not a high ranking book for me. Lights Out was so peak to me, it hit all the notes so perfectly. It was spicy, funny, sweet, intense, and each element felt solid. I actually laughed out loud when I listened to it. Itās two sequels arenāt bad by any means, but they just donāt meet that same level. And the elements of both feel rushed and almost like too much is happening for one book (even though theyāre all interconnected). The age gap felt weird, the poly relationship felt slapped on (Justice for AJ) and Tylerās revenge hard on was just too much. I get itās a dark romance, but we need to root for this guy like we rooted for Josh and Junior! Tyler was just a massive dick-hole.
Needless to say, after back to back somewhat disappointing books, I went back to my standby and basic white girl fave, ACOTAR and Iām happy to say, that it still slaps. The mystery and suspense of this book is *chef kiss*. And every reread shows me something different. But Rhysand stays the supreme Romantasy book MMC. That man is SO FOINE.
Peace out for now, and letās see what July brings!
