boy oh boy sure am glad that during this crisis I get to experience Captalist Plenty
and not Socialist Deprivation
You can also afford better healthcare, food, and living conditions if you have money, so poor people tend to die younger
I’ve always found the first statement to be hilarious.
I started Republican. You know. When I was a kid and just believed what my parents told me. Then I went to high school and was still Republican, except, yeah, maybe I agree with the Democrats about some things. Then I went to college and you know, I’m really a Democrat, except I still agree with the Republicans about a few things. Then I graduated and… okay, no wait, I’m pretty much just a Democrat. Now I’m in my 30′s and… maaaybe I’m a little more left than that even? Super progressive, socialist democrat here.
By the time I’m in my 50s I’ll be Finland.
my family are republicans. I’m 46 and went straight past democrat to socialist in the last 3 years
When I was young I believed in respectability politics and abstinence-only sex ed. Then I looked up out of the KJV Bible and my story books, into the world around me.
Not only am I muuuuuch more liberal than I was as a kid, I’m much more infuriated by the unfairness of the world.
I remember one of my professors in college who studies political alignment as a factor of psychology was fascinated that I’d flipped from conservative to liberal and asked me what led me there. I said, I was raised on a doctrine of kindness and compassion and doing what’s best for the most people – and when I was younger, I believed that conservativism was the way to do this, because we wanted to “protect” people from the evils of… what, socialism? Stuff we thought was going to fray their moral fiber? And then I got older and met more people who lived different lives than me, and I found out that conservative ideals were actually focused on protecting a very small group of people and didn’t care what harm it did to others, and I still believe in what I was raised on: Respect, kindness, compassion, and the most good possible. And staying with that part meant leaving behind the rest. And that’s the choice I made. And in my experience, there are two types of conservatives: Those who care about others but don’t know enough people Not Like Them to realize that their beliefs/practices do harm, or those who just don’t fucking care who they hurt as long as they get what they want. The first we can reach. The second? Not so much.
me, every year i’m alive:
1920's: I had a bird/His name was Enza/I opened the window/And In-flu-enza
2020's:
It’s cleaning time again only instead of using just the faucet I decided to try the shower head instead. I left him like this for 20 mins while I cleaned out and scrubbed his cage.
I feel like Africa is playing in his head

"Capitalism is not a human being. Capitalism is a Moloch, a god -- a god of bloody sacrifice that sees human beings as ants."
Terence McKenna
Honestly, I can’t do anything about this because trump supporters have dragged us all to the edge with their cult.
But I do insist that all of them go first in this sacrifice. Every single trump supporter should go back to work and make sure not to use any hospital or medical services after they do. It’s what the market wants.
Andrew Cuomo is asking people to consider sacrificing themselves for the sake of the economy
Nancy Pelosi blocked a bill that would give people immediate aid. Chuck Schumer outflanked Republicans from the right with his relief proposal.
It's not just Republicans. Neither of the capitalist parties care about you, they care about their corporate buddies, billionaire donors, and stocks. Don't let one side off the hook.
Instead of doing the following:
stopping rents and mortgages
paying everyone who normally makes under X amount per year $1500 2x/month until things improve
cancelling student loan and medical debt
forcing credit card companies to reduce interest rates to less than 5%
radically raising taxes on the wealthy to pay for it all
The capitalist parties would rather sacrifice human lives.
To many liberal and conservative capitalists we’ve already hit the limits of what’s possible. The idea that corporations, stockholders and wealthy people might have to make significant sacrifices during this crisis is unthinkable, and apparently the ultimate moral good, the ethical standard against which everything else must be measured.
Right now your life is being measured against the privileges of wealth, and wealth might be winning.
Yup. It's not any different from the norm, people die because they're too poor to afford medical care all the time.
Except now it's obvious. Plain as day for everyone to see, and about half of the people in the US are in serious trouble at the same time. No fiction that "they're poor because they did something wrong and thus 'deserve it'."
Before this, the average person couldn't afford an unexpected $500 emergency, well guess what's happening right now to everyone at the same time?
Some good news in the midst of all this chaos.

Queen shit
You’re all sadistic.
They were going to harm the animals. The animals harmed them instead. I don’t particularly feel sympathetic to animal abusers getting what they deserve.
Good for her.
And not a single person of value was lost that day.

When abled people’s health is at risk, suddenly all the accessibility and changes that disabled people have been fighting for is immediately put in place.
This is a great take on the issue by @autistictic on Twitter!
[image id: Twitter thread by @autistictic, transcript: Please REALLY take in how EASILY amid the Coronavirus pandemic -places go back to single use plastic -businesses switch in-person meetings to online -schools and universities switch to online lessons Yet these have always been "impossible" accommodations for disabled people. All the current adjustments made for abled people due to the Coronavirus pandemic are the only proof necessary for this claim I regularly make: Abled people ONLY don't accommodate disabled people because they don't have to. Because disabled peoples problems don't affect them. Look at how EASY it is! Look how QUICKLY they manage to do it! Because IT (Coronavirus) AFFECTS THEM!!! They only care if it affects them. There are simply no valid excuses for inaccessibility, because right now PROVES it is possible, and it is possible EASILY and QUICKLY. The one hope I have in the midst of this pandemic is that it might just break the culture of required personal presence. Being forced to switch to online attendance and home office might stay a permanent change even after the pandemic. end id]
