Have you ever been working on something but it’s just not turning out how you want? You keep trying new things until you literally want to bang your face into a wall? Usually in that situation it’s best to just walk away for a minute, right? Take a walk, get some coffee, do a shot of whiskey – whatever tickles your fancy. Well, that's where I was last year. But I decided that instead of taking a walk or day drinking, it was best to hop a westbound plane to hang out in a hotel across the country with hundreds of strangers at #Craftcation – a 4-day conference for makers and creative business owners. I found my people. And it was a religious experience. And at the risk of sounding 52 shades of cliché…. It changed my life. I traveled alone, roomed with strangers and was forced out my comfort zone. I met new friends who could relate to both my joys and my struggles. We talked about the loneliness of working at home, creative block, staying inspired, finding motivation, the struggles of having to fund your own everything, being a one-man show……they got me. Then there are all of the workshops and speakers. I got to sit in a room with people I had previously only ever seen in webinars and heard on podcasts. These women who I aspire to be like were on the same level as the rest of us. We ate lunch together, went to dinner together, drank copious amounts of wine together. It was amazing. And the workshops! Omg! Everything from indigo dyeing to stamp carving to blog writing. There were seminars on social media for small business and pricing your products and taking product photos. I shed tears with both Nicole and Delilah of @dearhandmadelife (the founders of this amazing conference of badassery who pour their entire hearts and souls into this event), completely fangirled over meeting my mentor (and spirit animal) @lelabarker and made dozens of friends that I can’t wait to reunite with this April at #Craftcation17. You guys, I could go on and on about how amazing this conference is. But instead, why don’t you just come with me and see for yourselves?! Tickets go on sale THIS MORNING! One that is shorter, easier to remember and easier to type! This also means that our Insta name will be changing, too. I almost missed this post today. It was scheduled for earlier but I've been engrossed in #Prince news and music all day that I forgot to hit the launch button. Fitting that this picture showed up in my feed today as a #tbt. (Thanks, #timehop.) Since returning from #craftcation16, I've been working extremely hard to change some things around here. I've been going back to my roots, and really examining what I wanted this business to be in the beginning while trying to expand on that with all that I've learned and become over the last 5 years. Amazing and exciting things are happening, y'all. I'll be sending out a newsletter shortly that introduces and explains some of these changes.
