Rant regarding stupid, judgmental people and society as a whole.
So, a friend of mine posted some ecard thing earlier saying Will and Jada Pinkett Smith need to do a better job of raising their 12 year old daughter because she shaved her head, sings about partying, and got her tongue pierced.
Itâs fucking hair.  If Willow wants to have a specific style, is cutting her hair hurting anyone?  If you cut your hair are you hurting anyone?  No.  Do whatever the fuck you want with it.  Make you happy.
My parents used to let me have parties when I was that age. Â We would rent movies and eat popcorn and drink soda and play video games and when I was in junior high we wrote and directed an entire movie and filmed it on my street. Â She isnât singing about getting fucked up, 12 year olds party too, they just party differently.
Iâm undecided on the tongue piercing.  Iâm not a parent.  Would I let my 12 year old?  I donât know, I donât have one, but I am certainly not going to judge parents who do.  Like I said, it isnât harming anyone.  I would never let my kid under the age of 18 get a tattoo â shit is permanent â but you can take out a fucking piercing.
Then, a woman comments that Willow is âfollowing the herdâ by doing these things.  Uhm, fucking what?  As a woman who has shaved her head on multiple occasions, works at a salon, and has a purple fucking mohawk, let me tell you â that is not the herd.  That is not what the majority of people are doing.  That is not societyâs standard of beauty.
And this is what completely enrages me.  Saying Will and Jada should raise their child better is like saying that my mother and father should have raised me better.  While I still struggle and ask for help on occasion at 28 years old, I try to do it as rarely as possible.  I work a job where Iâm making good money, I own my own place, I take care of myself, I take care of my pets, I buy my own food, I put gas in my car, I pay my bills, Iâve had the beautiful opportunity on several occasions to work for wonderful, talented musicians and given the opportunity to travel this country and none of this is for filling societyâs standards of beauty â itâs for the fact Iâm fucking perseverent, hard-working, dedicated, and loyal.  You know, the important fucking things my parents instilled in me at an early age. Â
I turned out a-oh-fucking-kay. Â I didnât ever do drugs in high school. Â Not once. Â I didnât go out getting drunk. Â I felt comfortable talking to my parents about anything, and still do. Â When I have a problem and need some advice, they are the FIRST people that I call. Â When Iâm having a bad day, I call my mom and dad, because I know they will listen and not judge me. Â Parents are there to listen and guide their children to make a decision that is not harmful to themselves or others, to teach them to be strong, self-sufficient kids so they can be strong, self-sufficient adults. Â If it isnât harming your kid, if it isnât harming anyone else, then what the hell is so wrong with it?
I have young girls sit in my chair, âI want to be pretty.â  They donât even know what they think pretty is.  They donât know what they want.  They want to be pretty to societyâs standards, not to their own, because nobody ever told them they can wear their hair differently and still be beautiful.  I have grown ass women sit in my chair who donât want me to cut off âtoo muchâ because their boyfriends/husbands will be mad.  Like itâs their significant otherâs hair?  Itâs. Just. Fucking. Hair.  You have to wear it.  You have to live with yourself.  Youâre the one who lives in your head all day.  I would much rather feel beautiful to myself than worry about feeling beautiful to somebody else.
Maybe Iâm biased because Iâve met Jada and she said I was hot and she loves my style, but that just goes to show you donât have to think in the little box those beauty and glamour magazines throw at you to be beautiful, sexy, or hot.
I donât fit societyâs standards of beauty. Â I still have men who are attracted to me, I have the most amazing, loyal friends on this planet â and why? Â Probably not over my hair, or how I dress, but probably moreso my character and the fact I have at least some sort of confidence and self-assurance and donât need somebody else to justify what I am or am not doing. Â I have a fucking purple mohawk, that doesnât make me less attractive or deserving than the chick with blonde highlights and long hair.
Wear your hair and dress for YOU. Â Make YOURSELF feel beautiful. Â Be happy with YOU. Â Everyone is going to have some sort of opinion about you, but the only opinion about you that matters is YOURS.Â
