In spite of all the choices we make, to be empathetic towards your fellow humans is the most important of all.
Cheers.

Happy International Whisk[e]y Day
I stuck mostly to the bottom shelf and am now just lazing around. What did you drink? What’s new with you?
Random thought.
I was told not long ago that the most striking thing about my little vignette stories, the ones written from a female perspective, was that they did not include mention of the discomfort of being in the presence of or under the male gaze. Damn that hit me hard.
knob creek is super smooth how do you feel about Jameson
I love that you feel Knob Creek is smooth! I feel the same way. I mean I get why people think it’s quite hot or spicy compared to the rest but... I digress.
Jameson classic is... classic. Great for shots, great for getting drunk, just drink up. But Jameson’s other labels are actually fantastic. Black Barrel and Gold Label are great sippers. Caskmates stout is a good dessert whiskey, the IPA is a bit less... enjoyable for me but if you like bitter, it’s a must try.
Past the mid-level brands, Jameson makes some seriously great top shelf Irish whiskies, I encourage you to explore.
Your opinion needed. Im a James Bond type. I look great in a suit and i get beautiful women and i am beautiful (for a man) But my whiskey game is weak..what 3 or 4 whiskies would you recommend for me to keep. And what to get when i go out. I also suffer from not being able to decide, when I go to the liquor store, whether to buy stuff i know or be adventurous and buy something new every time?? What do you think? I don't want to die without drinking every great whiskey in existence..
I think there are far, far better questions you could be asking yourself and others. Life is more than whiskey and women. Bond types should be unafraid to explore and experience, or take a risk at least on a bottle sitting on a shelf at MSRP.
At the very least, define great whiskey for yourself, not based on others preferences. At best, stop defining yourself by a fictional aesthetic and the women based on that fictional and societal aesthetic.
Or just accept that you’re a fucking cad.
My late Uncle was VP of Hiram Walker Distilleries, and CEO in charge of blending and maturing the ingredients for the Canadian Club Whisky. Long before Corby took over the company. He was a good man. - Sláinte
That’s incredible!
I give a lot of shit to Canadian Club’s standard brand. But their 100% rye and some of their special releases are absolutely top notch.
Cheers to your uncle, cheers to you.
Basil Hayden Dark Rye, thoughts?
Mmm. The base whiskey is too young and they just tried to mask it with the barrel finish.
Beam should have and could have done better.
It's super gimmicky but I wanted the House Stark whiskey. And the Johnny White Walker
You’re right, it is gimmicky. But it’s also fucking COOL. Haha. I love that they did a set, I have only tried two of the Game of Thrones ones and they’re... average. But fairly priced. If you can find the full set it’ll run you less than $500 for them all and if you can spare it, it’ll look great on a shelf. I’ve toyed with the idea of grabbing them but we’ll see. For $500 I could buy a few bottles of really great stuff.
STAY AWAY FROM THE Jonnie White Walker. I mean if you just want it for your shelf, fine. But to drink... it’s horrific.
Anything Laphroaig or Lagavulin for the winter works for me. Do you have a scotch preference?
Absolutely, give me all the peaty scotches in the fall, winter, rainy days, near the ocean. Pretty much whenever.
Laphroaig is awesome. Lagavulin... is good but the standard releases don’t have enough depth for me to really get behind so I try to get their Distillers editions if I ever see them.
My favourite Islay’s though are Bowmore 15 Darkest and Ardbeg... which version of Ardbeg really depends on my mood but man their committee releases are always a step above. Get your hands on this year’s Grooves release if you can, or last year’s Kelpie.
FINALLY. If you can ever find it. Octomore 4.2 ‘Comus’ is my favourite one of all time. The highest ppm peated whiskey at the time and finished in Sauternes wine casks... tastes like drinking smoked peaches on a beach. Heaven.
Tuesday night drinks.
What was your favourite bottle this year? What bottle do you wish you were able to get your hands on? Did any quotes strike you hard this year?
Let’s talk, send things, or asks or questions, or answers, or more shots.

Glad your back.... it wasn’t the same without you
Dunno how long or often I’ll be back, I still have a very hectic schedule but, I’ll try. Following me on instagram [same name] is the easiest way to keep up.
What's your favorite vermouth for a traditional Manhattan?
Great question!
1. If I had to choose just one, it would be Carpano Antica.
2. I try and match it more towards the flavour of the whiskey and bitters if I can so experimenting can be a lot of fun as each vermouth uses different wine / herbs / spices / etc.
