FAQ

Q: What is this gift exchange? A: This is a fandom event where people do an exchange of created digital works! This means someone will submit a prompt to be created by another, and they will fulfill a prompt that's been submitted! Everyone who submits a work will get one in return.

Q: How do I sign up? A: The sign-up form is open until May 31st at 11 p.m. EDT/3:59 a.m. GMT

Q: When's the deadline to submit? A: The deadline to submit is July 31st, at 11 p.m. EDT/4 a.m. GMT

Q: What kind of works can be submitted? A: Only fanfics and fanart will be accepted for this gift exchange. This is to reduce the strain on creating matches, as well as lower the complexity of participant's submitting requests.

Q:What do I do if I need to contact about my form/participation/any other questions? A: Feel free to message this tumblr or send an email to [email protected]. Please be sure to include your username, especially if you're contacting through a tumblr account that isn't your main blog.

Q: What does being a pinch hitter/back up filler mean? A: Being a pinch hitter means that if someone drops out last minute, you would step in to create a work based off a prompt in a shorter amount of time.

Q: Why are works being hidden until August 7th? A: This is mostly to help the event feel a little more special and fun, to mimic how "typical" gift exchange/secret santas work, where people show up to a party with a gift in hand!

Q: What happens if I finish my work early? A: You can still submit it to the AO3 collection early! It won't be publicly available until August 7th, when all work will be revealed. If you're posting it to tumblr, I implore you to hold off on posting it until the reveal date.

Q: Why are works being revealed on August 7th if they're due July 31st? A: This is to give pinch hitters time to create for people who showed up for the check-in but did not submit their work in time. Last year I had people not submit at the very last minute, meaning some people didn't get their gifts in time and had to wait for pinch hitter support. Not letting that happen again!

2026 Rules

This is a fandom gift exchange, meaning that for every prompt submitted, someone is there to fulfill one! By signing up, you're agreeing to fulfil the prompt that will be sent to you.

WRITERS will have a minimum word count of 1k, and I encourage them to be no more than 10kalthough not strongly enforced.

ARTISTS will have a minimum clean sketch, meaning that it will have a refined outline, without distracting guidelines, and a generally polished look (reference provided below)

No NSFW or Crossover prompts please! This means no sexually explicit prompts, and while I know there's a large crossover fandom in White Collar, I personally would like to keep this as a White Collar-specific fandom event. Thank you for understanding!

The Deadline for sign-ups is May 31st!  11 p.m. EDT/4 a.m. GMT

You will be contacted with your prompts by June 7th.

The Deadline for submitting your work will be July 31st, 11 p.m. EDT/4 a.m. GMT, but there will be a check in on your progress on July 1st.

If you don't respond to the check in by July 19th, your prompts will be sent to pinch hitters/back up fillers instead. If you do not respond  to the check in, you are forfeiting participation in the event, even if you finish your work by the deadline. 

I will only attempt to contact you twice, if I get no response either around the check in time or around the event submission, you will be forfeiting participation in the event, even if you finish your work by the deadline. I'm not chasing people down or worrying about their gifts, you will be replaced.

Works published to AO3 should be submitted to the White Collar Gift Exchange collection. These works will be revealed on August 7th, meaning that they will not be able to be read until they are revealed.

If you're posting elsewhere, please do not post your work until August 7th when the rest of the gifts will be revealed!

Works are due a week before the reveal. This is to ensure last minute pinch hitters have adequate time to cover, in case someone doesn't post the night gifts are due. This does not mean you have time to submit work late, I will not grant extensions past the 31st.

If your spot in the exchange ends up being forfeited, I can't stop you from posting it anywhere, but it will not be in the gift exchange collection or reblogged to the gift exchange tumblr.

When you do post your work, make sure to use the tag "WCGiftExchange2026" 🎊

Leftover Prompts list!

Hello! Everyone had so much fun gifting completed works to each other and were so excited about creating the works, that when it was time for the check-ins I asked if people would be okay with releasing their unused/unfilled prompts to create a general list that anyone at any time could complete!

Usernames are those on AO3 for consistency, since that's the one platform everyone gave me. Also, for the gift exchange everyone submitted FOUR prompts, two writing prompts and two art prompts, and then they had ONE prompt filled. So, some people have 1 Writing Prompt unfilled and 2 Art prompts unfulfilled, and some have 2 Writing Prompts unfilled and 1 Art prompt unfilled.

There's no rules, no deadlines, no collection! These will just be for the fandom to gift to each other! Have fun!

Writing Prompts!

•Rainyday13's Prompt: Some rich asshole who's the prime suspect on a case has grown a very intricate hedge maze on his property, at the center is the piece of art that was stolen. In order to recover it, Peter and Neal have to navigate the hedge maze, in the heat, no shade and no water.

•Fluencca's Prompt: Neal reflects on various times he's been to Coney Island (alone/with Kate/Sara/Peter/whatever)

•MyFairKatie's Prompt: Pre-canon—air conditioning breaks in the FBI building, which nobody thinks is fun, and on a particularly hot day, Neal arranges to have ice cream or popsicles or something cold delivered to the white collar division, with enough for everybody and a little note that reveals only to Peter who sent the mysterious gift.

•Idkimoutofideas' Prompt: Neal gets kidnapped by a bad guy that doesn't like how much he talks, and to remedy this puts a shock collar on Neal that activates any time he speaks

•Smartypantsflute's Prompt: Neal getting heat exhaustion/early stages of heat stroke/other heat illness and needing to be taken care of by someone else

•SSK374's Prompt: (Hurt Comfort - Post Canon - no ship) Neal is lonely and alone at June's place, no June, no Moz, it is extremely hot - there is a power cut, so no AC, no fan, but beyond the physical inconvenience, something else is bothering Neal, all this reminds Neal of a very specific horrible day from Witsec days, when smthng happened and there was nobody to help or save him. He keeps thinking about it until Peter shows up, feels smthng off about Neal and investigates…and makes Neal talk about it and they both talk until the power comes back.

•Chasingsunrise's Prompt: Since, it is summer, let's notch up some heat? Neal is sick but pretends that he isn't. As always. But no one realises how series it is. And when they finally get it. They realise this isn't the first time and Neal is hiding because of past (the creator has freedom to choose the trauma. bad childhood? heist gone wrong? Some captive? prison? Your pick)

•Tobedecided's Prompt: The American Natural History Museum is hosting one of their sleepover events (they used to do these for students/kids as well as adults-only!). It also happens to to be the perfect cover for the bad guys of the week to pull off a heist. Can Peter and Neal (and Diana and Jones?) catch them before morning and recover the stolen artifact?

•Babydollbucky's Prompt: Sunburned Neal! The Burkes take care of a badly sunburned, very uncomfortable Neal.

•Elusive_ellipsis' Prompt: Neal tags along on Peter and Elizabeth's holiday to Europe (whether Peter actually agreed to his attendance or not is up to the writer), only to keep mysteriously disappearing. Peter tracks him down to figure out what he's been hiding…

•TheTimetravellerCat's Prompt: Post-anklet: It's a hot summer evening/night, Peter and Elizabeth are talking outside in their garden, the atmosphere is inviting for confessions, and Peter admits he has (romantic) feelings for Neal, Elizabeth is supportive

Summary: At an evening at the Burke's, Mozzie recounts an eventful day he had one summer - including an unexpected storm and a trip to the hospital for Neal. For the White Collar Summer Gift Exchange.

"Yeah, no way that happened," Diana snarked in her usual droll. Mozzie shot her a disgruntled look. "Excuse me?" He demanded in what may or may not have been mock outrage. "You're questioning the integrity of my information?" "Uh-huh, I'm not sure that conspiracy story could really be considered 'information'", Jones added, pointing at him with his beer bottle with one hand, and making air quotes with the other. Peter snorted, and Elizabeth hid a smile behind her glass. Mozzie could see he wasn't going to get any back up from within the circle, so harrumphed, and got up from Peter and Elizabeth's sofa. With his empty glass in hand, he headed for the kitchen, but, before he could find a new bottle of wine to open, was headed off by Neal. Neal, who was returning from the kitchen himself, with a new bottle of wine, ushered Mozzie back to the sofa, where they both sat down. Mozzie sat at the end, with Neal between him and the others, and poured himself a large glass. Neal and Elizabeth also filled their large glasses, so Mozzie was reasonably sure he'd be getting back up shortly for the next bottle. For now, though, he settled in and went along with the flow that Neal established. In his usual style, Neal lea the conversation with ease, weaving a yarn that allowed Mozzie to interject naturally, with the least amount of ridicule. Of course, suits being suits, even Neal couldn't stop Mozzie from a few scoffs here and there.
