It’s kinda funny how this show started with the promise of a public execution
And ended with a public execution
Akudama Drive: *drops final episode*
Me: Oh boy I bet this won’t make me cry at all hahahaha
Me half an hour later:
Did not expect Akudama Drive to remind me that Jesus was killed by police but here we are
While not a perfect depiction of police brutality this is a bold anime to be ending 2020 with. The police are openly portrayed as villains and end up killing an “ordinary person” triggering a violent riot which destabilizes the entire dystopian society. We don’t get any “this is going too far” or “we’re just going to end out like them” we get a riot and for all intents and purposes it seems to work.
Anyway, I don’t really want to dive into all the little reasons why this depiction of police brutality isn’t perfect I just want us to appreciate how this anime known for its bold stylistic choices also gave us a very bold depiction of real world issues. I think bold creative visions should always be celebrated!
I will always love them both!!! Forever!!!(;´༎ຶٹ༎ຶ`)
