This is also silly question, but how do you decide the stats for each uma? And are all of them gonna have their accessory on the right or are you taking some other liberties? Love seeing all this thought being out into our uma boxers 🗣‼️

stats are generally vibes-based but I also consider how their fights usually go in the source game
the wii characters are all turf racers and snes characters are dirt racers, fighters in both Wii and snes (mr. sandman, bald bull, super macho man, aran ryan, bear hugger) are both turf and dirt runners. this makes little mac a turf specialist and birdie a dirt specialist
the circuit they’re in determines how many g1s they win, minor circuit has 1 or less, major circuit has 3 or less, and there’s no limit for world circuit
for example don flamenco has two phases in Wii po, so I made him a stayer bc that’s “longer” than how a typical fight would go and I made him an end closer to represent the switch to being much stronger after phase 2 like how end closers put on a ton of acceleration to catch up to the front of the pack at the end of a race
I wanted von kaiser to have the most average/common stats, which to my understanding is a turf medium/long pace/late ace, to represent his more traditional and (relatively?) conventional boxing style.
it was hard to adapt piston hondo since his whole schtick in punch out is being a Japanese stereotype but umamusume takes place IN Japan, and we already have the “super hyper focused dedicated cultured but still hot tempered traditional Japanese martial artist” personality covered by yaeno muteki, I decided to have the Japan theme conveyed by making her win the Japanese derby and Japan cup (I was also considering having her win the arima kinen or either Tenno sho to round off the “most culturally important Japanese flat turf races” but since he’s a minor (nes)/major (Wii) circuit competitor and not in world circuit (and he’s also the lowest major circuit competitor) I didn’t want to give him more than 2 g1 victories
for my next one (glass joe) it’s kind of obvious I won’t be giving him any graded wins, the only win on his record is his maiden race (which he won against future dirt hall-of-famer and henceforth undefeated racehorse nick bruiser). he has poor stamina which relegates him as a pace chasing or late surging turf sprinter and miler
I will be making them all have right ear accessories to match their gender in the source material because I think fillies and mares occupy a unique narrative role when discussing horseracing in general, and since all the boxers are men, it would be disingenuous of me to replicate the challenges fillies and mares face in their racing careers when compared to their male counterparts (this is also why I don’t really like how vodka is portrayed in umamusume, her being a filly when she won the derby, Tenno sho, yasuda kinen and Japan cup was revolutionary but because all Uma are girls this accomplishment was greatly diminished, I wish they added *something* to emphasize how crazy of a feat her career was)
also their heights are their canon heights in cm minus 20 cm to keep them around the height range of the canon horses
in the future I’m considering writing all this out as their own separate posts after I post each design lmaooo
