Even before being on Kimblee, I was able to see bits and pieces of your writing on varied other accounts that I’ve managed to take up her, without actually RPing with you… Nevertheless, I’ve managed to grow to really like seeing Schuyler and her interactions with so many different kinds of people. In an environment where many people are defined by their powers and jumping face-first into danger or tangled plots, your lovely lady stands out to me by virtue of being a kind and gentle soul who honestly wishes the best for others and has won their respect by being exactly that. I love Schu and am absolutely delighted to be able to interact with her during this ball.

Truth be told, I wasn't sure what to expect when you sent me a message asking to RP. After all, OCs are difficult business, especially when MFRPs like this are stock to the brim with the most popular characters from who knows what or where. However, what you've crafted here is a very well thought out character building on pre-established lore: that is, that of demons and succubi in particular. The very dark and oftentimes fairly heavy subjects you discuss and work with are very tricky indeed, especially with regards to tact and sensitivity, but I think you're pulling off those elements of your character without sacrificing quality for the sake of drama. Well done!

I’m sure you’re already certain about how I feel about your Dorian but I’ll say it here and say it in a way not limited to less than 140 characters. I have played absolutely none of Dragon Age: Inquisition, but when I read the description and app for your character after seeing your rp ad I knew that I wanted Kimblee to talk to him. The RP is fabulous and your RPing is fabulous, but all of this was done in the dark. After watching Dorian’s questline and rereading the RP I realise that your voice and manner of speech for Dorian is impeccable, as well as his thought processes and mannerisms. It’s always so, so difficult to get the morality of a character right, to establish what is important to them and how they react to different kinds of people or discussions that would never take place in the canon, which is why I’m very impressed with what you’ve done and continue to do. I look forward to continuing to RP with you and see more of your Dorian in the future!

Fight or Flight [Closed @ Al]

On the battlefield, there were many different kinds of soldiers who fought for a plethora of reasons. But ultimately, they boiled down to two kinds of people. Those who were willing to stand and fight for whatever cause they chose to support, and those who didn't have the guts to do so and ran with their tails between their legs. Oftentimes, it was easy to tell these types of soldiers apart. Did their legs shake when talking about death? Did they lie sleepless in the barracks, hoping beyond hope that life would one day return to normal? Then that was a weak man. But sometimes... sometimes it was much more difficult to discern. In that case, one could only wait for the field of battle.

Right now, Kimblee was minding his own business as much as his busybody mind could, when out of the corner he saw five men ganging up on one young man. Now, what on earth could have caused this altercation? Heading closer to see exactly what would happen, the alchemist wanted to wait and see what would happen before interfering.

Creatures of the Night [closed @ Undertaker]

  He listened on to the other man’s words, the Undertaker finding all of his complaints and misunderstandings to be an amusing concept. Standing on his feet in the middle of the corpses, he slowly made his way towards the other, giving a grin along with each step. Although his words sounded as if he took offense, it was quite the opposite. The Undertaker didn’t mind openness on opinions.

  "Well, everyone has different tastes. I can’t deny the assumption that it’s not too spacious, but that’s what I like about it. Constraint is needed sometimes, if we think about it.. Although a little chaos makes a story interesting."

  He lifted his arm in a habit of doing so when he wore longer sleeves, the Undertaker now very interested in the one before him. Life and death.. something he now specialized in. It was a topic he immersed himself in fully, and even tampered life for it.

  "You have quite the insight on life and death. Specialize on the living, do you? Still judging me when I sleep with the dead, I suppose I’m not included in this life and death talk.. How cruel."

  Still, his company had one thing wrong. Something he had experienced himself and what he had told others. The end was the end, thus, appreciating those while their corpse rotted was a horrible way to do so. While alive, that was the best.

  "Celebrate what they did after they die. I don’t believe in such a thing. Shouldn’t we appreciate those around us when they’re still alive? There’s nothing at the end, you know~."

Raising an eyebrow but not commenting on the other's sudden rise from his bed of corpses, Kimblee began to listen to the other's voice and wondered if his words were truly meant to antagonise or if he simply didn't care.

"Constraint is something of a... last resort, isn't it? We all require rules and regulations, codes and boundaries that allow us to mark what is and isn't allowed. Otherwise we'd be no better than the animals. But it's less chaos and more freedom that we should all strive to attain. Of course, if we do require constraint within our lives then there's no point in trying for true freedom, is there?"

Such a fun conversation to have between two people who'd just met. But in truth, Kimblee was always intrigued about the opinions and ideals of others, and this eccentric gentleman seemed like he would be one of the more opinionated and fascinating individuals the alchemist could talk to at this ball.

"Nonsense: a discussion should include opinions from all sides, whether they be interested in the living or dead. After all, we can appreciate those around us living or dead. We appreciate them while they're alive, and honour their deeds after they're dead. As for the end... well, who knows? Some people certainly have faith in the afterlife."

What Are Little Boys Made Of? [closed @ Butch]

The young had always been a wonder to Kimblee. After all, he could perfectly recall his own youth... but it had mostly been spent apart from others of his age. True, there had been the semblance of interest in their games and sport, but even then his peers had realised that this was someone who was worlds apart from them in terms of mindset and relation to humanity.

That was why when a rather exuberant and somewhat angry looking youth suddenly collided into Kimblee, his own youth was the second thing he thought of. The first was the collision itself, and why this boy might have been running so angrily. 

"You'd better watch where you run, young man. Or at the very least who you decide to run into."

"You think obscuring my beliefs is difficult? Heavens, I’m doing it right now.” Dorian didn’t like to get preachy, not when things were going his way; he hadn’t had to confront his superiors about the way they led their operations, nor had he any reason to think their beliefs contradicted one another. With that being said, though, he was a man of many layers, some of which were held so tightly to his chest that few had ever seen the deepest ones. He could count those fortunate souls on one hand at best. 

"I’m not doing what I am for recognition or gratitude. I’m doing it because it’s right. To expect glory for committing to the greater good is selfish. If I’m to go down in history as a madman at the end of it all, so be it."

"Oh, there's no need to obscure beliefs between us, Mr. Pavus. After all, we're talking merely in hypotheticals: a good, clean discussion on the philosophies of wartime between two gentlemen of honour." Although the definition of honour and its application to the Crimson Lotus was dubious at best. After all, his own honour code and system was something simply unfathomable to most minds. Why would he respect some superiors but absolutely detest others when barely a thing separated the morality of their actions? But there were many fine lines and distinctions that Kimblee kept careful track of

"If that is how you would behave on the battlefield, then you are a finer man than most that served alongside me. Men who desired fame and glory, but found that military service wasn't all it was truly cracked up to it. I admire people who're able to adhere to their beliefs." A small smile as he extended his hand. "Major Solf J. Kimblee, at your service."

          after becoming soaked in the last couple of days, investing in an umbrella was never a horrible option. and now that he has one, he’s glad to be out on the streets despite his uncaring nature to just run out into the rain like it won’t stop him — and it most certainly won’t as he’s seen far worse weather than a sprinkle or two. shaking the umbrella off a little, he continues to pad through the muddy-looking streets until stopped by a man in a nice suit .. rather strange-looking, but he’ll admit it’s quite stylish for something he’s .. never seen in his life.

     ” … yes, can I help you .. ” the grand master stops to listen to this man’s plight before offering the umbrella to him. the entire thing. ” Take it, I hardly need it for myself. ” used to even walking in snow while it’s snowing .. this? a little water? it’s absolutely nothing .. absolutely nothing.

Kimblee had been expecting perhaps a little generosity, a shared umbrella or offer of a coat. He hadn't been expecting the whole thing. Peering closer at the man who'd come to his aid, the alchemist was slowly coming to the realisation that perhaps this was a man with admirable values. If so, he needed to continue conversation with him, and see if this was a random act of kindness or something further with this man.

"Why... that's rather kind of you, sir." Putting the umbrella up above him, Kimblee began to walk alongside the man. "It's not often that one is able to experience kindness like this, not in this day and age of dog eat dog. At least allow me to buy you something to eat, or help you find a place out of this weather as thanks."

"A... cell phone." The scientists had spoken of a device, hadn't they? And the alchemist had often seen passerby talk into small black or white rectangles, which were presumably these cellphones he'd heard spoken of. Still, the mechanics of such a thing were fascinating. How did it work if there weren't telephone lines for it, for one thing?

"Perhaps in the future. I suppose they must still have a postal office of some sort, unless that's become obsolete as well."

Tea for Two? [closed @ Rosa]

With a sympathetic look welcoming the other as she took the spare seat, a content nod was given to the man in agreement. ❝Absolutely, it’s better to have tea with another… isn’t it?❞ Sheer luck had granted her to not face the cold without being spared by the wind, and all she hoped for now was for the weather to chill down until it was a gentle breeze. These were one of the many struggles with winter, and it was rather troublesome for her who didn’t appreciate much for it.

❝Black tea is fine with me. Coincidentally, it’s one that I prefer most. But I don’t think I’ve heard of the one you’ve mentioned before… It must be from China, right? Assuming the name of its origins…❞ Although she wasn’t a complete expertise in tea, she knew enough to partake in conversation with what she knew. After having to give it as presents so many times to her family members and sometimes even to those unrelated, it wasn’t surprise that she managed to memorize a couple of them. 

❝I'm not hungry, so I'm fine. Thank you, though.❞ Fingers folding around the fragile cup, she gently lifted it near her lips, blowing against it softly until taking a quick sip. Glancing out the glassed structure, she watched as crowds decreased in number, disappearing into the nearest compartments they could find to avoid the conditions. ❝The weather is extremely harsh at the moment… I truly hope it’ll go down after this. I didn’t expect today to be so cold. If only I knew, then I would have probably stayed at home…❞

"On most occasions yes, although sometimes a little too much company can be annoying." More like a whole military company. While he had certainly enjoyed the Ishvalan campaign, sometimes the chitchat of the soldiers had been quite the nuisance when trying to enjoy a bit of hot butter tea. An odd concoction coming from the far reaches of the Xingese nation, but quite a welcome one in the alchemist's stomach until the many soldiers had soured his morning.

"Ahhh, is it now? Then I must commend you for your excellent taste in hot beverages." While it was true that green teas were lovely and mild, and red teas rather dashing in their flavour, only a black tea was truly bold enough and flavourful enough for the alchemist to approve. Already he was appreciating the fact that his current company seemed to be at least somewhat refined. Her upbringing was something that needed to be further discerned.

"I believe so: at least, that was what I was told when it was ordered. I've never tried such a tea, so it's nice to have the experience." Hearing the howling wind barely fazed the alchemist as he continued to drink his tea. "It's not difficult to face the wind if one has a warm enough coat. I much prefer this weather than the last time I had to head to the North of my country. Snowy peaks and chilly wind every day." He gave an exaggerated shiver for dramatic effect. "The things one has to do for work, I suppose."

What You Are In The Dark [Closed @ Whitlea]

Perhaps, an occupation which either required shovels or explosives. A gravedigger? Miner? Construction worker? Whitlea liked the guessing game, since the only real professionals she knew were all priestesses.

“Rock blasting, I bet that’s it. Y’know,when they drill holes in a ridge and load it up with dynamite and then boom…”

She probably took more interest in explosives than candy, since it wasn’t every day she heard about high-velocity explosives. More things she’d seen in memories but never encountered up close.

“Well, the whole sugar rush thing isn’t scientifically proven, but hyperactive kids do tend to drive adults crazy, just saying. Everything in moderation I guess. Watch your sugar intake, triglyceride levels, that’s what the medics always told me.”

Chuckling slightly at her guess, Kimblee had to admit that she wasn't all too far off the mark. "Close, very close. A little too... well, perhaps the nice way to say it is that an occupation like that isn't really something I relish." Completely untrue. The cacophonous sound of explosions created by stone, by wood, by flesh... it was what he lived for.

"My specialty is actually the research of explosives, rather than actual use of TNT and dynamite." Quite true. Why use such mundane explosives when one had access to alchemy? "In particular, I worked with military applications of explosive compounds. A rather grim study, but it was enjoyable work and it felt like I was doing something productive and useful for my home country."

"And that's quite sound advice. I've never really had a problem with those who were hyperactive. After all, it shows quite a lot of enthusiasm and energy on their part. Of course, I don't really get to associate much with children, so I can't say for certain that I'd be able to tolerate such behaviour for long..."
