So the Great Barrier Reef was pronounced dead today. Do you even realize that is this our home. We were blessed with such a beautiful, loving, and magnificent home and look what we have done to it. Mother Nature doesn’t deserve this. We don’t deserve this world we were so graciously given. Are you waking up yet
K, so this is mostly bollocks.
The Great Barrier Reef is not dead. About a third of the coral in it is dead, and it’s suffering a really bad case of a disease called coral bleaching (which is what caused the photos down below)- but it’s not dead and it has a chance to recover. Hell, you can even see it in the bottom right picture- the only coral that’s actually dead in it is the big dark twiggy bit. The rest of it is still alive- it’s just under stress and so it’s bleached.
A lot of scientists are actually kind of pissed off about this message going viral, because it sends the message that there’s nothing we can do. It’s like sending out an obituary notice for your loved one that has cancer and is on life support. They’re still not dead. They can keep fighting; they can survive.
And we can still save the Reef. It’s not too late to turn things around.
I don’t care if Hillary Clinton is corrupt. I don’t care if she lies, if she cheats, if she eats bowls of newborn chipmunks for breakfast.
She is literally the only thing standing in the way of a fascist dictator becoming President of the United States with a Republican majority congress that guarantees he can do anything he wants and nothing will be able to stop him.
I was and still am a Bernie supporter, and I hate a lot of things about Clinton, but none of that matters anymore. If Trump is elected, people are going to die. Women are going to die when Roe v Wade is overturned and Planned Parenthood is defunded. LGBTQ people are going to die when conversion therapy is further legalized and more bathroom bills are passed. POC are going to die as Trump rounds up Mexican immigrants, gives more power to the police, and fuels the fires of Islamaphobia. Poor people are going to die as Obamacare gets overturned and further cuts are made to welfare programs. And that’s just in this country. That’s not even taking account the all-too-likely outcomes of Trump starting new wars in the Middle East and having control of nuclear bombs that he’s said he ‘would not rule out’ using.
This is no longer even about ‘the lesser of two evils’. This is not ‘scare tactics’. This is literally life and death. Don’t fuck around and tell me you’re voting third-party or not voting at all, because you don’t have that luxury.
I am delighted that this post has gotten as many notes as it has, but as Election Day grows closer I would like to flush it out with some additional information and facts, particularly for those people who are still considering voting third party and those who still consider Clinton “just as bad” as Trump.
Why you shouldn’t vote for Jill Stein
Why you shouldn’t vote for Gary Johnson
Why you shouldn’t vote third party AT ALL: x, x, x, x (hint, it’s because the electoral college presently makes it impossible for third party to win)
Worried about Clinton’s scandals? John Oliver breaks it down.
Concerned that Hillary Clinton defended a child rapist? She tried to get out of it, but she had no choice.
Comparison of Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders’ views. They voted the same 93% of the time.
A comprehensive review of Donald Trump’s corruption
Donald Trump is being sued for raping a 13 year old girl in 1994, and there is merit to the case.
Oxford Economics predicts that Trump’s policies would remove $1 trillion from the US economy, while the Peterson Institute projects that a Trump presidency could cost nearly 5 million US jobs.

The official Republican platform includes banning abortion, overturning marriage equality, no background checks for purchasing guns, declaring coal “clean energy”, religion used as a guide for legislation, a border wall, and pornography declared a “public menace”.
Politifact says that Hillary has made ‘false’ statements 11% of the time and ‘pants on fire’ statements 2%, compared to Trump’s 37% and 17%.
Bernie supporter? Bernie says that now is not the time for a protest vote. Bernie tells you why you should vote for Hillary Clinton. Bernie says that Trump must not become president.
Please do not waste your vote. You can complain about Hillary Clinton as much as you want, but complain about her while you vote for her.
This is so important
Something good in this world…
There is a 1000% chance I’m voting for Jill Stein (Green Party) in the 2016 presidential election
Jill Stein is the only currently declared candidate for the Green Party, and previously ran in 2012 with Cynthia McKinney. First, I strongly recommend you check out her OnTheIssues page (and that of every candidate) so you can see where she falls on a variety of issues.
http://www.ontheissues.org/Jill_Stein.htm
Here’s a chart of her place on the “political spectrum,” along with a sampling of her quotes on different issues:
On Abortion
Healthcare is a right, including women’s reproductive rights. (Nov 2012)
Federal funding for embryonic stem cell research. (May 2012)
Maintain abortion rights & provide free birth control. (May 2012)
On the Economy
It’s un-American that top 1% own 90% of wealth. (Jan 2012)
Reduce spending via military cuts & preventive health. (Dec 2011)

Incarcerating poor & minorities has become big business. (Jan 2012)

On Drugs
End the racist war on drugs and school-to-prison pipeline. (Feb 2015)
Transform from criminal drug system to public health system. (Nov 2012)
Marijuana is dangerous because it’s illegal, not vice-versa. (Dec 2011)
On Education
Bail out the students instead of bailing out the banks. (Oct 2012)
Establish basic right to free college education. (Jan 2012)

I recommend you do your own research as well. I usually vote Green Party because I’ve found the Democrats don’t often represent my interests. Go with what you think is best; just know that there are alternatives to “the lesser of two evils.”
We must always take sides. Neutrality helps the oppressor, never the victim. Silence encourages the tormentor, never the tormented.
After 87 courageous years on this earth, Holocaust survivor and Nobel Peace Prize laureate Elie Wiesel (September 30, 1928–July 2, 2016) has left us — and left us his timeless, increasingly timely wisdom on our shared responsibility in ending injustice. (via explore-blog)

“EQUALITY FOR HOMOSEXUALS” pinback, design by Randy Wicker, c. 1968. [Stonewall: Post 16]. Although, for a number of reasons, the nights of Sunday, June 29, Monday, June 30, and Tuesday, July 1, 1969, were relatively quiet, there were still celebrations of the LGBT community’s hard-earned visibility. On Sunday night, for example, as the New York City Police Department’s Sixth Precinct sent a large number of its force to police Greenwich Village, a group of gay street youth took advantage of the precinct’s vulnerability by raiding its headquarters. By the time the group left, many of the police cars, a paddy wagon, and virtually all of the personal cars of the on-duty officers and staff were adorned with Day-Glo blue and fuchsia bumper stickers that read, “EQUALITY FOR HOMOSEXUALS.” #lgbthistory #lgbtherstory #lgbttheirstory #lgbtpride #queerhistorymatters #haveprideinhistory #night (at 6th Precinct)
Imagine if DC had the courage to do to Wonder Woman what Marvel did with Thor, by heightening the culture clash between an Amazonian and modern Americans. Imagine how much fun you’d get if she was routinely confused by the casual sexism of our culture! Imagine how much joy it would give audiences if, because she comes from a matriarchal culture, she didn’t know how to behave in traditionally feminine ways, and how much fun it would be to see how that challenges people. Hell, just imagine if she saw every bit of rude sexist behavior as a challenge to fight her, because she doesn’t have the framework to understand that’s just how it is. Instead, we’ll probably get like one or two mildly feminist moments before she recedes into a character that is supposed to be strong but also non-threatening. In real life, a woman who has never known sexism in her life would be totally threatening to nearly everyone. There is no way they are going to have fun with that, though.

Six simple rituals: 1. Drink a glass of water when you wake up. Your body loses water while you sleep, so you’re naturally dehydrated in the morning. A glass of water when you wake helps start your day fresh. 2. Define your top 3. Every morning ask yourself, “What are the top three most important tasks that I will complete today?” Prioritizes your day accordingly and don’t sleep until the Top 3 are complete. 3. The 50/10 Rule. Solo-task and do more faster by working in 50/10 increments. Use a timer to work for 50 minutes on only one important task with 10 minute breaks in between. Spend your 10 minutes getting away from your desk, going outside, calling friends, meditating, or grabbing a glass of water. 4. Move and sweat daily. Regular movement keeps us healthy and alert. It boosts energy and mood, and relieves stress. 5. Express gratitude. Gratitude fosters happiness. Each morning, think of at least five things you’re thankful for. In times of stress, pause and reflect on these things. 6. Reflect daily. Bring closure to your day through 10 minutes of reflection. Asks yourself, “What went well?” and “What needs improvement?”
