my first high school marching season, I experienced the long lasting abilities of glitter
it’s fitting that in my first college winter season, I am once again dealing with permanent glitter in my hair

my calves ache, gotta love dance exercises
I could combust y’all! I have my flag with me again for the first time in a while and I’m really really happy
bet y’all thought I was dead, I have been delivered the good news that paper work has been submitted for winter guard to be considered as a sport at my university
(this is gonna be long and probably my last post)
I feel like I've made a couple posts like this, but today I had my final marching band photos and no band season. It's truly settled in and actually become clear that this is it for me in color guard. I think I was still holding on to the possibility for a last minute season that I would grumble about being so last minute but actually be very happy to have. I got to talk with another band senior and reminisce on previous years. I missed the other guard members who didn't show up as I was one of three that did (five didn't). This is gonna sound really dumb, but I don't think I ever thought their would actually be a point where I graduate and leave. I would do it again just to be in the music department for a little longer. I love playing instruments on stage and performing on the field, but there is no space for music in my future. My college does not have a marching band and although I love the violin, I'm not an extraordinary violinist. I just wish I had one last chance to appreciate everything a little more and try just a little bit harder. Alas, no one can plan for a pandemic they don't know is gonna happen.
literally everytime I do a music project for school, I include a piece from last year's show and maybe I should stop cause I cry everytime
found some turf in my bed? where did it come from? this turf stuck to my bag for a whole year just to fall off on my bed now?
Marching band is cancelled, so.... here's one of my favorite memories from the previous season.
During a rehearsal when the guard was working separately from the band, the band started doing a call and respond of "Everybody" by the backstreet boys. I just remember being really happy at the moment and it was sorta funny to hear and see cause I don't think the staff had any idea what was going on.
In general, I'm really happy when the band does any call and respond (ex. going to attention, parade rest, even when people say "left, left, left" to get everyone stepping the same) because it's nice to hear everybody and be as loud as we can. It just makes me really happy for no really explainable reason!
Sorry for this post, it's sorta weird, but I'm gonna miss band a ton and am feeling a little bummed. Anyways, if anyone else has any good band moments, feel free to share! I can't respond from this blog tho because it is a side blog...
actually rewind, forget all that. favorite memory was when some of my band went to perform during the joint HS and college performance with UVA, and the UVA band threw hot dogs at us in the stands and then the guard went to get hot chocolate but didn't know where we were (cause it's a giant college stadium) and ended up losing eachother

My school really said “all sports will be delayed till December, but not marching band, that’s cancelled”.
If they’re going to have football in the spring and cheer as well, why can’t we have marching band too?
Recruiting new members is gonna be real hard this year since A) there are no gatherings B) all returning members are seniors and juniors (like none of us really know incoming freshmen) and C) we don't know how to contact incoming freshmen
