They don't make it like this anymore.

For those of you who aren't familiar or haven't watched it, or those simply looking for the next show to watch, The Leftovers is one of the best series out there, hands-down.

I don't want to spoil too much by delving into specifics about the plot. I went into it blind, and that turned out to be one of the best decisions I've made when it comes to watching a tv show.

Suffice it to say, this is a story about the people left behind after some 2% of the world population vanished without trace. It's weird, it's harrowing, it's surreal, it's thrilling, it's excruciating, it's infuriating, it's fucking amazing.

First-rate performances, heart-pumping suspense, heartbreaking storylines, and a knockout finale. With absolute confidence I can say it is the best series I have ever watched.

Plus, it's where I realized Justin Theroux is definitely more handsome and a better actor than Brad Pitt. I swear!

I like Gemma because she seems cool and sweet. And I want her to be free and safe. And I want her character to be developed further. And also I don't feel anything about her and Mark as a couple beyond knowing that they are.

Okay wait. Reghabi's whole thing about how Lumon has people in high places is sitting different with me. Part of me almost forgot that Lumon was able to get the police and the morgue in their pocket to fake Gemma's death. Because that suggests a level of power, influence, money, and reach which is NOT reflected in "the entirety of your mission-critical operation is run by one single underappreciated ex-theater kid and his 14-year-old temp."

Like of course of course Lumon is powerful. Of course it's Amazon on steroids. But I rationalized it as "Lumon the company that makes my lightbulbs and cutlery and backpack and bedframe and and and" is rich and powerful. But the cult of Kier is far more clandestine and shoe-string - hence the Lumon office building being a multi-billion dollar building, while the severed floor is like 19 employees and 1 Seth Milchick.

Except now I'm doubting that entirely. Jame Eagan richest bastard alive is the number 1 Kier-apologist and singularly invested in the Cold Harbor completion. Lumon, face to this all, is fronting enough money to have hands in the pockets of police and morgues and politicians and probably institutes on the national level.

SO WHY THE FUCK CAN'T THE SEVERED FLOOR HIRE LIKE. ONE (1) SECURITY GUARD.

This is the passion project of a man with more money than God. Heiress to the cult almost died like 4 times to see this through and everyone agrees this is a reasonable sacrifice except maybe her. And yet the actual getting this done is left to the one singular Seth Milchick, man-extraordinaire at organizing massive theatrical lies and over-the-top productions yet woefully incompetent at such tasks as stopping 4 grown adults from wandering around the hallways instead of doing their work or not letting anyone die of homosexual-epiphany hypothermia.

Jame Eagan watching aghast in the wake of Cold Harbor muttering, "I don't understand. I allocated budget for 75 severed security guards on the severed floor to ensure we would see this through. What happened?" while Seth Milchick is hastily stuffing his 75-man severed marching band in the closet going, "It probably got lost. In the bureaucracy."

I work in corporate and one thing I can say to this is that there is this thing called compartmented security. Basically highly confidential documents, assets or processes are restricted to selected individuals only to limit accessibility and mitigate risks of security breach. The more confidential something is, the less people know about or have access to it. In our company for example, there are things and rooms only I and two other people have access to! 😉

They left Milchick in such an interesting position in the season 2 finale. After having been given a promotion, we see Lumon management continuously degrade him, bit by bit, almost like they want to see how far they can go on pushing him around. And it's not just his performance as a manager too - they degrade him as a person, trying to reduce him to a simpleton, a mere follower, rather than someone who still has a personality of his own apart from being a Lumon employee.

He's standing on a precipice, quite literally.

So... Is he going to keep standing on the desk, right above the innies?

Or is he going to come down and join them?

Oh, ok. You want Helly to take away Mark's autonomy and consent? You want Helly to take away his freedom to make his own choice? Why? Because you want Helly to think she knows what is best for him? You mean like Lumon infantilizing, patronizing and manipulating their employees because they think they know better?

Riiiiight.

The strong feelings aren't entirely about her as a character... They are about her and Mark being married. People have strong feelings about marriage and cheating because it's a very relatable, real world concept. In that sense they can't separate the outies from the innies and they think that since Mark Scout is married, Mark S must be married also and must act and feel accordingly.

This is why they are the same community who hate on Helly and Helena pretty strongly.

Glad I belong to the other side... I just want everyone to be free of Lumon and for love - in every shape and form - to prevail.

helly showed up down the hallway because she wanted one last look at him. she wasn’t asking him to stay. she’s been the one trying to convince him leave.

helly said that maybe his outie wasn’t lying and that mark might have a real chance at living on the outside. helly reminded him she was an eagan when he said he wanted to live with her. helly convinced him to finish cold harbor when mark said he could just leave it undone and leave gemma trapped below.

she locked milchick in the bathroom and instigated an entire coup to give him time to save gemma.

all she wanted was one last look at the man who gave her life meaning.

Of all the iconic and truly memorable scenes in ep 10, my favorite has got to be the fight scene. While Mark and Drummond's fight was terrifying, when Lorne joined it instantly brought Severance to new heights of thrilling and outstanding. I didn't know Gwendoline Christie from before but now I am a huge fan. From the goat scene to the fight, she was sooooo great. I am in awe
