Help Hisham get married!

today i am making a post on behalf of my friend Hisham, whose life has been torn apart by war. he and his brother are responsible for their younger siblings (both under 10 years old). he is only 26 years old himself.

he has a post here on tumblr that explains more of his specific situation, but while it has a lot of notes, he has not gathered a lot of donations. anything he gains is quickly spent on food, medicine, and other supplies to keep his family alive.

i am making this post today to bring attention to his campaign because he told me personally that he wants, more than anything, to be able to marry his fiancee, Farah. Hisham and Farah are deeply in love, but without the funds for a wedding (specifically for their wedding tent), they are not able to cement their love. Farah's father will break them apart if they are not able to be married soon.

He only needs $700 total for the tent. it would make us both so happy if he was able to get married this month! i have donated myself (i am listed as maria within the supporters tab) and if every follower I have gave only $1, we would reach this goal easily!

I made a thing!

This is inspired by a pin Marlow made on Pinterest. They also have an Instagram called marlowcrochets. Their pouch featured a pointed cap.

Pattern under cut

Crochet Mushroom Pouch

I used worsted wight acrylic yarn and a 4mm hook for this pattern

Terminology: sc - single crochet slst- slip stitch ch- chain inc- increase dec- decrease sts- stitches blo- back loops only dc- double crochet.

Terms in brackets [ ] will be repeated the number of times specified. When something is done "around" it means every stitch will be done the same.

At the end of every round slst and ch 1 before continuing to the next round.

I would also like to note that I use an "x" stitch, which is a single crochet where you yarn under instead of yarn over. You can use whichever you like.

Stem (white)

R1: 6sc into magic circle R2: 6inc around (12sts) R3: [1sc, inc] ×6 (18sts) R4: [2sc, inc] ×6 (24sts) R5: [3sc, inc] ×6 (30sts) R6: [4sc, inc) x6 (36sts) R7: sc around in blo (36sts) R8-9: sc around (36sts) R10: [4sc, dec] ×6 (30sts) R11-12: sc around (30 sts) R13: [3sc, dec] ×6 (24sts) R14-15: sc around (24sts) R16: sc around in blo (24sts) R17: sc around (24sts) chain 70 and leave a short tail for sewing later.

Ruffles (white) Attach yarn to front loop of round 16 of stem. Ch 2 and then work 3dc into the same loop. Continue to do 3dc in each loop until you reach the end then slst to the first dc you made leaving a short tail to weave in immediately.

Outer Cap (red) R1: 6sc into magic circle R2: 6inc around (12sts) R3: [1sc, inc] ×6 (18sts) R4: [2sc, inc] ×6 (24sts) R5: [3sc, inc] ×2, 4sc, ch1, [3sc, inc] ×2, 4sc, ch1 (28sts, 2chs) R6: [4sc, inc] ×6 note that two of the increases will land in the chains (36sts) R7: sc around (36sts) R8: [5sc, inc] ×6 (42sts) R9: sc around (42sts) If you make the Inner Cap leave an 18 inch tail for sewing later.

Inner Cap (white) R1: 6sc into magic circle R2: 6inc around (12sts) R3: [1sc, inc] ×6 (18sts) R4: [2sc, inc] ×6 (24sts) R5: [3sc, inc] ×2, 4sc, ch1, [3sc, inc] ×2, 4sc, ch1 (28sts, 2chs) R6: sc around (30sts) note that two of the sts will land in the chains. R7: [4sc, inc] ×6 (36sts) Leave a long tail (40 inches) for embroidering on the spots.

Assembly

Start by sewing the Inner Cap to the Outer Cap using the red tail making sure that the chain holes line up. I used a wip stitch. Then use the white tail to embroider the spots. I used a French knot but you can just do lines or even crochet small circles if you like. Finally, use your hook to thread the Chain of 70 through the chain holes then sew it back onto the stem on the opposing side.

Voila! Now you have a mushroom pouch! Use it for dice, trinkets, or whatever you like.

This took me all day to make and I am very proud of it.

Look at what I found on Pinterest! It’s a random stripe generator! You pick the colors you want, the stripe thicknesses that can be used, and how many rows you want in total and it creates a nice, random stripe pattern for you! Random is hard to pull off, at least for me, and I’m sure I’m not the only one.

There’s even a weighted stripe generator if you only have a little bit of a particular color!
