it's the middle of the night. meep just woke up to text me a DAD JOKE LEVEL PUN and immediately went back to sleep.
sometimes I think this might be too much power
ive only reeeeally seen this on reddit but in case it exists in other online spaces, i think the expectation that every artist should be recording themselves drawing so they can whip it out as evidence if they get accused of using gen ai is so fucking stupid, and not even reasonable either.
these people clearly dont know how much storage space keeping excess videos on your computer/in your drives takes up. if youre working on a shittier pc or tablet, itll lag if youre recording, which makes art an absolute nightmare.
maybe instead of trying to set a precedent that every artist Needs to have ammunition to fight ai claims, people who know absolutely nothing about art shouldnt be blindly accussing every artist they see!
and thats not even to say i dont think you should learn to recognize gen ai. of COURSE you should. but if youre not an expert on it, its not your place to just accuse random artists on twitter or whatever. just shut your trap maybe lol
I have bad news: it's gotten worse on reddit. There's a sub dedicated to picking apart videos too. People are up in here calling out coloring methods and more. All things I've seen disabled artists do, specifically.
This is a disabled artist I know that responded to this. They draw and color in specific ways to cope with the struggles of sight and physical disabilities.
If you're an artist, do not act like you're the perfect expert on how to draw.
this is actually a good point. even artists can be misled into thinking they know all regarding this.
everyone goes about their art differently, for different reasons. i merge my layers a LOT when i work. does that mean when i cant provide screenshots of separate layers, i Must have not drawn my art?
the idea that "you dont manage your layers how i would Expect an artist to, so you must be faking it" is just so ridiculous
I too know that disabled artist with sight issues, I love how they work in such unique ways. They're absolutely not AI and I feel insulted now. My parents have been artists since the 1960s. They understand layers!
If you are not an artist, yes, obviously don't fling accusations. But if you have never worked with AI image/text generators, even cursorily, your accusations will be shit for that reason, too, because you are flat-out uninformed about its capabilities and limitations and its quirks. What it's hard to get it to do. What it's not capable of YET. What it's good enough at that it can pass as something completely done by a person. How much human effort goes into getting given results (potentially way more than you think) vs doing it totally without AI. If you don't understand how it works, and most people who oppose it proudly do not, don't assume you can always spot it, or that when you think you have, you are correct.
So just don't harass anyone over it. It doesn't help and you are likely enough to be wrong that it does more harm than good.
If you think it's AI, don't interact. Rage rewards the algorithm. Block and walk away. This problem is not going to be solved by harassing individual artists. I don't like where we're at, either. I want things to change. This is not how that gets done. Walk away. Walk away. Walk away.
wwwwwwwwwwelp. Not the first time I've been accused of secretly being an AI, but this is the first time one of my logos has been suspect
no yeah no I get the need to make sure no AI was involved. I promise I get it. I hate AI too. But if I can overload my graphics card on a routine basis just running an art program and background music, how well do you think adding a screencap recorder on top of that is going to go?
There are other ways of proving shit was hand drawn I promise. Try metadata for starters. There's a lot you can get out of metadata including a signature your drawing program of choice can add for you when you export/save. Hell just that gives you the program the file was made in boom done you can check if that's an AI generating tool or not. It doesn't all have to be timelapse recordings. Oh my god.
Crisis averted. They accepted my yes-am-real-hooman letter. Citing your sources works apparent wonders.

They recorded tinnitus? It's a physical thing?????
Lola De La Mata speaks to Patrick Clarke about how her experience with severe tinnitus and vertigo fed into her new album Oceans On Azimuth
Source
Transcript:
The most mind-blowing moment, not only for De La Mata but the scientists too, came when they managed to actually record the sounds that she heard in her ears – which now appear as ‘Left Ear’ and ‘Right Ear’ which begin sides A and B on the album – and in doing so opened up questions about the nature of tinnitus itself. “The NHS definition is that it’s a phantom sound that your brain is creating, that it isn’t something ‘real’, so you should try to ignore it.” By having De La Mata place her ear into an anechoic chamber, with an ultra-sensitive microphone perched in her ear canal, they were able to provide significant evidence to the contrary. “After the first recording of it, it was ‘There’s no way, this isn’t possible.’” They tried again with her breath held, and again with her tensing her ears, and again with other members of staff, but each time it became apparent that yes, the noises De La Mata hears are seemingly something physical.
HOLY SHIT THAT'S WHAT I HEAR ALL DAY

r/scrungycats is fucking amazing
This one is my favourite. It’s subtle. It’s contemplative. This cat has so much to consider
Okay I'm weirdly curious about something so for those of us who deal with tinnitus or the like:
when your ears ring, does the pitch change from time to time?
It's the same pitch every time
It's a different pitch every time
Depends on what made my ears ring (varies)
...The ringing comes in different pitches?

People often say to me: “You draw like some kind of inhuman machine. If I eat your brain, will I gain your power?” The answer is yes, but there is another way. The key to precise drawing is building up muscle memory so that your arm/hand/fingers do the things you want them to do when you want them to do them. Teaching yourself to draw a straight line or to make sweet curves is just a matter of practice and there are some exercises you can do to help improve. If you’re going to be doodling in class or during meetings anyway, why not put that time to good use?
