diego only laughed more. matching…what a thought. either way he gave her a grin, happy to see her agree with him about the whole thing. it was not anything he’d be caught dead doing. not since he was a child at least and he had a dress code for his own home. but that was the past and god did he hate it. “yeah i mean, to not care what people think is one thing but i do that and im not matching with someone now, am i? you constantly tell me that i look ridiculous, it’s not going to make me wear jeans and a sweater though.” diego pulled at the black outfit he wore. he knew it looked ridiculous, but he didn’t wear it to impress, it was a style all on comfort and being able to move with it when he fought. and it was the final touch of a never ending rebellion to the man who always dressed him like a fool. “i’d never try to get rid of you nancy. you’re good to me, i need you around.” nancy had always been the more spontaneous between the two, but now it was less of that and more of a confusing toss and turn of things she seemed to want until he’d respond. someone more obvious would have taken note and not said what they were thinking but diego didn’t even see harn in what he was saying. first she wanted to dace and at the drop of a hat is all seemed metaphorical to her. he shifted from his leaning position, suddenly that alcohol rushed a bit too his head but it was nearly just the beginning of a good buzz. “look, if you really want to dance, i will. like you said, no work…so im kind of stuck in this place with nothing better to do, right?” diego shrugged and rose a brow. now she wanted him to go and find himself a date? diego wasn’t great with reading people, but he always thought he knew nancy…only lately he was starting to think he couldn’t get her at all. not with how strange she’d been recently. “im not here to date, nancy…one night off work. that was the deal, remember? im not going to go around and pretend like i want to date anyone here.”
—— ▸▸ hearing his laughter at what once was a sweet thought to her made her heart sink a bit more. what was she even to say to something like that ? it wasn’t all bad . . like for her, she remembered seeing photos of her dressed like her mother on small occasions. or how her father would do silly things like coordinate with her mom just to be a hopeless romantic like her. apart of nancy believed that’s where she got it from. that need to have that whimsical romance that you only see in movies and fantasy books. as serious as she was on the outside . . she had such a soft core. Unbeknownst to him, she was easily hurt which was something she believed she hid very well. ❝ you march to the beat of your own drum D . . and honestly, you look great in what you wear. sure i poke fun at you at times . . but it’s you. you wouldn’t be you if you didn’t dress like this. ❞ she gave a small smile. ❝ i’m glad you didn’t change. ❞ he’d never get rid of her . . she was too good to him. truer words had never been spoken. she was too good to him, to the point where she silently hurt herself in the long run. she was . . too good to everyone but herself. she was too good to her cousin and ended up giving her the very man she had feelings for. none of them even took a second glance to see how much she was hurting inside over it. instead she was good nancy . . the one that was so good at her job, the one that gave 110% all the time but barely 10% to herself. ❝ i’m not going anywhere D . . no matter what, you’ve got me. ❞ sadly . . she knew she meant it. they’d been through too much and he depended on her . . his good friend; she’d rather have that than nothing at all. she looked out at the few people that were dancing and she wanted to be one of them. just to say she actually did something to have fun. slowly she shifted from foot to foot. was it dumb that she wanted him to . . ask her ? god . . he knew just what to say to really get a person, and she didn’t mean it in a good way. ❝ no . . it’s okay . . ❞ she gave him a small smile before looking back out to the people. ❝ that kind of made it seem like a last . . resort . . ❞ she forced another soft laugh. ❝ plus these shoes . . too high and i can barely walk in them as is . . imagine me trying to dance . . ❞ that alcohol was really hitting her . . but his words constantly hit her harder. just like that . . she for sure knew she stood no chance and it surprisingly hurt more than she thought it would. swallowing hard she cleared her throat before clenching her jaw hard. ❝ i’m um . . ❞ she looked up at him, her eyes unintentionally welling with tears as she pointed her thumb in another direction. ❝ allergies . . they are acting up so i’m gonna go . . ❞ she gave him another smile before looking away. ❝ have a good night D . . ❞ she spoke in a whisper before walking away, wiping one of her eyes as she made her way to one of the restrooms.
hargrxxves:
diego didn’t realize when he was rude; with a distracted mind he usually just said things that he thought before really thinking. and maybe if he did he would have noticed the interest nancy saw in matching. the way she might of found the idea as fun to do with someone. “yeah… cute. sure. i agree with the stupid part. i mean, it’s just so…lame.” he said with a laugh only to look away and at bambi. “i mean come on, drew…overalls?” he asked rolling his eyes and nudging her a bit in the side. he was a bit surprised, maybe he didn’t know drew as much as he thought, he definitely didn’t think she was interested in dating. maybe he didn’t ask enough? oh well, too late now. “okay, then start looking here. what can be the hurt if you do date or not, right?” he asked her. diego had a melted heart…and maybe his need to seek revenge was what made him so blind. he was…stuck in the past. “you look good tonight, nancy. don’t waste it standing around me all night.” but then she seemed too sad by the thought, as if she was just as stuck as he was but on something different all together. of course nancy would be more open to the idea of not working compared to him which was still not completely liking the idea. even the idea of dancing, which was his idea, didn’t really excite him at all. and was surprised when she took his seriously. “oh…i mean…” he started looking out at the dancefloor and finally back on her. “i…yeah, i would. but only one dance. it wouldn’t be a last resort thing, nance, why would you think that?” taking in a breath he needed a drink before he was going to actually go out there. “sorry, you know it’s hard to get the one thing i constantly do off my mind…what else am i supposed to talk about?”
—— ▸▸ her smile seemed to fade slightly as he spoke. did he know how he came off sometimes ? probably not. that was just him on any given day. usually she would shrug it off . . but maybe it was because she showed no signs of slowing down on the alcohol . . but his words were actually chipping away at her. ❝ yeah . . it’s stupidly lame. i mean i think you’re right . . no one really these days would do something like that . . ❞ she felt silly . . how was she to explain her thoughts now, knowing just how he felt about them. would he think her lame for finding small things like that . . endearing ? ❝ you have to admit . . it’s something else watching them not care how the look to others. ❞ coming from a girl in a see through lace dress where most of her skin was exposed. whatever confidence she did have was seemingly destroyed unknowingly by diego. his nudge seemed to snap her from her thoughts as she lightly nudged him back with a breath. ❝ start looking here . . in this room for someone to talk to ? if i didn’t know any better i would think you were trying to get rid of me. ❞ reluctantly she glanced around, most people had someone . . or seemed to have a good time conversing with others and she was just . . in her own way. she was stuck on someone that didn’t know she existed outside of a partnership . . a work partnership. maybe she needed to just give it up. they’d known one another for years . . worked together for years, spent hours together and he just, didn’t see it. at this point he never would and it was just a fact that she’d have to accept. ❝ thanks D . . you look good as well, in your own way. ❞ slipping her fingers through her hair, she waited on some answer from him. however, when she got it . . she surprisingly felt no better. ❝ no . . nothing um . . no reason . . don’t worry, i’m not going to force you into a dance or anything . . ❞ she feigned a smile before looking down at her toes. ❝ two left feet . . ❞ she mentioned. times like this she wished she were more like patch . . straight forward and confident. sure, she had those qualities in her own way when it came to work . . but with guys . . with diego, she clearly didn’t hold a candle next to a woman like her. ❝ it’s okay . . you’re a focused guy and it’s hard to see anything else besides that one goal . . i’ve seen you like this for years. but maybe take your own advice and go talk to someone . . talk about normal things like the crappy weather here . . or things you like to do ? ❞
hargrxxves:
nancy had this idea, talking about the cute parts about bambi and whoever the guy was she was talking to…but diego saw her nothing as the person he wanted to fulfil his revenge with. nancy wouldn’t have known though. still, as he looked at nancy he figured she’d see it all in a different light that he did. “of course not, why in hell would i match with anyone?” he asked raising a brow. “you even think patch would be in on that?” definitely not. patch had her humor but it didn’t stretch that far. diego seemed blind to how sad nancy seemed he was focused on other things as always and that was where he’d always been at a loss. just once he needed to open his eyes. “what make you think no one is interested? i don’t even think i’ve seen you talk to anyone like that before.” he finally pointed out as if he really would have known or not. but nancy always seemed to just have friends…nothing more. “maybe if i have to take this night without work you have to as well. you’re all dressed up right, and i doubt no one around here wouldn’t take on a look like that.” he motioned to the dress, yes, she really did look good. “ that’s funny. i don’t have anyone to dance with except you so unless you’re going to drag me out there then it looks like im in for a long night of drinking whiskey. and there is no way in hell i will ever step on stage to sing.” he said shaking his head. that was one thing he would refuse. not everyone got to hear him sing and even when he did it wasn’t enough to make it through a whole karaoke song. “you’re putting me up for a real challenge. i don’t think i’ve gone this long and not thought about work.”
—— ▸▸ they were endearing . . in this weird way. apart of her envied the girl, she wanted that type of friendship where there seemed to be this cat and mouse game of unsaid emotions. in her case . . the unsaid emotions only seemed to be from her and that was pathetic. ❝ i mean . . ❞ she thought a moment, having these dumb ideas of doing stupid christmas cards with whoever her significant other was . . dressing in matching sweaters. or engagement photos with matching themes . . just stupid things couples would do just because they unapologetically could. ❝ she wouldn’t . . no. but i don’t know i just think it’s cute and stupid . . maybe one day i’ll do it. maybe not. but it’s still a nice thought. ❞ glancing down into her glass she had no choice but to force another laugh as she shook her head. ❝ i just know . . it’s one of those moments where you can just tell. it’s not that i haven’t gone out on dates . . or had relationships because i . . have. it’s just . . ❞ they weren’t him . . none of them understood her the way he did. no one connected with her like he did . . and that was the problem. ❝ i haven’t found what i’m looking for . . or they just haven’t found me ❞ her brow rose at the proposition making her glance over. hearing him mention how no one would pass her up, she almost laughed in his face. how could he say that . . when he was doing it as they spoke. what a contradiction he was . . and he didn’t even realize it. ❝ you’d be surprised D . . ❞ even as she said the words, her features betrayed her as a soft blush kissed her cheeks. ❝ but alright . . i’ll take you up on that, you’re not working for the night and i’m doing the same. just going to enjoy the evening. ❞ she spoke with a soft exhale. ❝ you’d actually dance . . with me if i asked ? or would you do it because it’s a silly last resort thing ? ❞ apart of her didn’t want to know the answer. her heart already ached . . so why was she choosing to put herself through more ? ❝ okay ! okay . . no singing. well no singing for you, maybe i’ll get up there if i get enough alcohol in me . . carpe diem. ❞ she mentioned while knocking back the second round of scotch. ❝ talking about work is thinking about it . . you’re breaking the rules already, D. ❞
hargrxxves:
he shook his head. there was no way he’d wear anything else. he was comfortable and felt he deserved at least that if he had to sit around doing this. at least he was being paid. “matching stops being cute when you are ten, nancy. they just look like they are coming from a farm and here to sell eggs or something. i swear if they sing old mc. donald together im going to barf right here.” he said rolling his eyes. he shrugged. drugging her would have at least let him go home. he seemed confused. “care to elaborate on who might he be? unless that was just…forget it, i probably don’t wanna know what guy has your eye around here anyway. as log as it’s not anyoe crazy, got it?” she could have been on a date. she looked more than fine enough. unless she really was just trying to blend it. “you could have fooled me, i don’t think i’ve ever seen you dress like that.” he said only to look at the bartender and order another drink. diego groaned in her direction. “one night… and what and i supposed to do with one free night myself, drew? i definitely would rather it not be here.
—— ▸▸ nancy was clearly the hopeless romantic between the two. he was just a realist and she couldn’t help but admire that about him. when her head was too in the clouds . . he pulled her back down in his own subtle way. ❝ c’mon D . . you never dressed like someone before ? ❞ she asked with a laugh. ❝ in a way it’s a little cute ❞ she still mentioned while looking back to the bartender again, ordering a glass of water. she needed to keep a clear head . . and anyone that knew her; knew she would be kind of a lightweight in the drinking world. didn’t mean she didn’t try to put on a front that she could keep up. ❝ if they get up there and sing that . . i will owe you a hundred dollars and a day of doing whatever you’d like. ❞ she offered the bet casually. how did he not catch on ? didn’t he realize how many times she changed her dress ? or changed her hairstyle so it would be perfect ? she wanted to be noticed . . wanted to see his jaw drop. for once she wanted to make him speechless . . and once more her efforts went unnoticed. her lips parted as she went to elaborate enough to not reveal too much . . but he began speaking making her shoulders drop slightly. ❝ no one crazy . . got it . . ❞ she felt like a fool now but she should have known better. taking the glass of scotch, she knocked the rest back making a face as the liquor burned her throat going down. ❝ don’t worry though . . not dating anyone and no one is interested . . clearly . . ❞ she muttered the last bit before ordering another round of scotch. she was going to feel it in the morning. ❝ go have fun . . dance with someone, sign up to sing a latin song . . i know how you love them. or maybe grab some of the food to eat . . just promise you’ll forget about work until this thing is over ❞
hargrxxves:
diego, leaning his head on one arm that was propped up on a bar as the other held onto a glass of whiskey. damn, was he bored and the sound of people singing off tune was starting to get to him. well, at least nancy was there to suffer it with him only he had to stop and admire her for dressing up which she of course only had to point out the opposite for him. “stand out? this is as casual as i have… no leather, see?” he said picking at the black pants and shrugging. “what else do i have to wear anyway? i couldn’t come in sweatpants.” his eyes looked at nancy and he grinned. “i see you blend in quite nicely though. what are you, trying to impress a date or something?” he laughed a bit before taking down the rest of his drink and watching bambi do her thing. “cant i just…slip her something so she gets sick enough to go home? i am getting tired of standing around this place.”
—— ▸▸ he looked bored, that much was evident. leaning against the bar, she glanced behind her to the bartender. with a kind smile she ordered a glass of scotch just to keep the edge off. dressing like this in front of him . . let alone a room full of people was nerve-racking enough. bringing the rim to her lip gloss coated lips, she took a small sip letting the scotch linger before swallowing. ❝ you’ve got a point actually . . there’s no leather in sight. ❞ she smirked before quirking a brow. ❝ proud of you. ❞ another soft humored passed her lips as she glanced over at him. ❝ i think you could have gotten away with sweatpants . . thing one and thing two over there have overalls on. kinda cute if you ask me. ❞ she gave a slight nod in their direction with a chuckle. his question made her choke as she took another sip making her quickly shake her head. ❝ me ? impress a date ? are you insane ? ❞ she used a napkin to wipe under her lower lip as she forced another laugh. ❝ honestly . . if i were trying to impress someone; he wouldn’t have noticed anyways. ❞ she gave her own shrug while looking to her side. ❝ let her have fun for the night . . meanwhile you just, enjoy yourself. for once let’s not think about work. one night is all i’m asking of you, D. ❞
—— ▸▸ nancy came to this gathering with one goal in mind. she wanted to learn more about the citizens of riverdale for her files. she already had photos of the people, names, dates of birth, even fingerprints. she just wanted to know more . . wanted to know their secrets and how they knew one another. what better way that this ? moving her hands over the red laced number, she gave a soft smile to those she passed before spotting a very familiar face. making her way over, she cleared her throat while fidgeting slightly in the laced number. ❝ i think you missed the point by a longshot D . . we were supposed to blend in, not stick out like sore thumbs. ❞ she mused with a raised brow. / / @hargrxxves
she so cute i can’t 🥺🥺
hargrxxves:
diego’s sight locked on the road before him. he just hated that day. he was finally proud of being something and of course he messed it up by not being good enough. “its fine… i was better off doing it myself. it’s not like i didn’t solve the cases.” diego just got in a lot of danger when he did them. he never wore uniform, he refused to play by laws rules, and there were times he might have taken things too far. “but…thanks drew.”
“monroe is obsessed with his daughter. he’s a mean one but jesus, you’d think bambi was a priceless diamond. i mean he hired me of all people to watch her and tell him if she’s getting involved with trouble.” instead of feared hitman…he was a babysitter. “you don’t have to help me, nancy, you got a life too, you need to get out there and do what you want.” he said to the girl.
his anger seemed to cool with her soothing words. “i just…you are what i got left nancy.” not that he’d go and speak about his family that he walked away from and never did. but why would he when it was nancy who stuck by him, never making him feel like number 2. he should have known her answer right from the start. out of the endless amount of nights they spent together just sitting in a car with food and each other for hours, watching criminals before the fun started; nancy was not hard to impress. so, dinner on his couch would have won her over. and as he walked up to the main counter instead of the hostess booth he handed the girl a menu. “all you can eat pasta. looks right up your alley, drew. surprised you never ended up working as a server.” but of course it was a joke, there was no one he could see better as a PI except nancy. but he shook his head and focused on the menu. settling after a moment he ordered a plate of carbonara for himself and waited for her to order herself something. “ while you’re in riverdale and not helping with the case what do you want to do? i know this place is run down but im sure you can pick something up while i’m working.” lord knows his apartment was not going to work for her all day. nancy would go stir crazy.
—— ▸▸ losing diego . . one of the good guys was something none of them could have imagined. sure, he had his ways of solving a case . . they might not have always been ethical but he got the job done. the cases were closed with multiple murders and offenders behind bars to await trial. ❝ you helped me so much . . even after the fact. you never let me do something dangerous alone. ❞ she smiled. ❝ and if i even tried to . . you were right there catching me off guard. ❞ she softly nudged him with her elbow, just to make light of the bitter topic. ❝ anytime D . . anytime ❞
❝ from what i’ve been gathering . . she’s an only child, so that might be why he treats her like a rare treasure. ❞ she reasoned slightly. she had years of research on the man . . still she was never able to place his face. he was just like she’d mentioned . . a ghost. ❝ has she gotten herself into anything you need to save her from ? ❞ she questioned while sitting back some. ❝ and i have to ask . . have you seen the man in person ? or have you just communicated over burner phones ? i just need to place his face to the horrible things he’s conducted over the years . . and i’m so close. ❞ she sucked her teeth slightly before looking out the window. ❝ i know i don’t need to do anything . . i want to. we haven’t done this partner thing in a while and i’d like to . . get back to that. ❞ she rolled her lips. ❝ i don’t know about you . . but i’m kind of tired of working alone. ❞ she shrugged.
his words . . oh how she longed to hear them in a different light. to know that she was so important to him. she wanted so badly to be seen as this priceless work of art to be admired. even as she looked over at him, she smiled . . but that sparkle never touched her eyes. ❝ and . . i’m not going anywhere anytime soon. ❞ she whispered before clearing her throat. with their plans set, she headed inside the establishment slipping to the counter by his side, she took the menu, only looking up at the mention of all you can pasta. ❝ still know what i like . . down to the dish. not bad D . . not bad. we will have to get that next time we actually sit down and eat. ❞ she mentioned before giving him a soft shove rolling her eyes. ❝ fun fact . . i actually was a server. had to wear this whole sailor themed dress . . it was not my best moment but it payed a few bills. ❞ she smiled to the waitress, looking at the way she stared at digeo. he had that effect without even knowing it, poor devil. placing her order of bolognese rigatoni she slid the menu back so she could lean on the counter with her elbows pressed to it. ❝ that’s a good question. ❞ she sighed softly. ❝ i plan on expending the pi firm . . opening an office here. ❞ she also had some other news . . and she couldn’t think of anyone to share it with than him. ❝ i got . . another offer from the FBI . . ❞ she smiled lightly. ❝ they are really wanting me as an agent. told me i could lead my own team . . i’m on the fence about it ❞ she looked up at him. ❝ they let me use any of their resources with a phone call . . but to lead my own team . . what do you think ? . . ❞
hargrxxves:
“is it hard when it’s the truth, drew. i mean. i wasn’t working with anyone until you joined the force. too bad i fucked up one too many times and they kicked me off.” leaving the only two good ones being nancy and patch. he could only roll his at the leather comment though. what else was he going to wear? a hawaiian shirt? this wasn’t CSI: miami.
“you are just a softy is all, sometimes it’s funny.” he said as he drove. listening to her and only growing more concerned. “i should have figured. monroe has been up my ass about watching that cabbage patch kid of his. he wants me watching her at night too. people are probably eating at the chance to ruin him the bigger he gets.” he said shaking his head. it was hard, doing the work for someone you wanted to be begging on their knees for them to spare their life…but in all good time. monroe would feel how diego does.
hands began to grip the steering wheel so hard his arms became stiff, hard to turn and under his feet he felt himself step on the gas and the vibration of the engine as he picked up speed. taking over the city…that was one thing. but targeting nancy? no, this was something he was not going to let happen. he wasn’t losing her too. “juro por dios que lo voy a arruinar. there is noway he will get away with this, nancy. im not losing you too.” he looked over at her, only for a second. his anger was obvious but he reached out to take her hand. his chest felt a sorrowing weight when he figured…he might have not had this chance if one of those bullets had hit her too…once again he wasn’t there. “you’re not going back to the city without me, got it?” he quickly let go of her hand and pulled into the one good italian place in riverdale. “you remember that old dog papa putine and his sons? heard this was his go to spot actually.” diego turned to the girl. “i don’t… really have a table so you wanna eat here or order and eat on my shitty couch?”
—— ▸▸ ❝ i was gutted when they made you turn in your badge . . ❞ she murmured while eyeing him some. ❝ i tried to talk to the chief . . told him that we needed you on the force, someone that was actually good at their job. but he wouldn’t hear it. ❞ she rolled her eyes. ❝ he just didn’t want to admit he was wrong. ❞ she smiled fondly at a thought. ❝ and then eudora came . . i didn’t think they would let me work with family, but we were almost as good as you and i were. ❞
even as they embraced, he managed to make his iconic compliments with a hint of sarcasm making her press her fingertips to his chest as she pushed him away. ❝ i admit . . i am the biggest softy, for those who matter at least. ❞ her own concerns becoming more evident as he revealed the more responsibility added onto his plate. ❝ you can’t be serious . . D, he should assign someone else to babysit as well. ❞ she sighed. ❝ if not . . then i’m doing babysitting duty with you. there’s no way you’re pulling twenty four hour shifts like that. ❞ as she sank down slightly into her seat, she looked over at him. ❝ those rival gangs . . D, they don’t exist anymore. they all work under him collectively, but monroe is like a ghost. ❞
she watched the way his muscles contracted, knuckles tensing as he cluched against the steering wheel. even when he was shaken with anger, his language managed to send a chill down her spine as she sucked in a soft gasp. ❝ D . . um . . ❞ she didn’t know what to say, especially when his hand took hers squeezing it. did he know how difficult he was making things for her ? how without him knowing . . that simple touch or look into her eyes would make her so weak ? she had to snap out of it . . she swallowed her feelings for years now; an eternity wouldn’t hurt, right ? moving her other hand over his, she softly stroked her fingertips against the top of his hand. ❝ you’re not going to lose me D . . i’ll always be here. ❞ just as quickly as his warmth was clasped over her hand . . it was gone, leaving the void space once more. ❝ i won’t go without you . . ❞ she cleared her throat. ❝ i promise you that. ❞ she tore her eyes away to glance at the restaurant in front of them. ❝ if they recommend this place to eat, then it must be incredible. my mouth is watering already ❞ her soft laugh filled the empty spaces of the ride they both occupied. ❝ honestly . . something about eating on a top notch shitty couch has me sold. let’s go put our order in shall we ? ❞ she winked while slipping out of the car, waiting for him to join her.

nancy always seemed to make an entrance, even when she didn’t know it she had a look about her. made her instantly connect with diego the second they became partners years ago; even if he wanted to refuse how much he hated working with people. but as she met him he chuckled. “they sure sent me the best one on the boat. as always. i know i don’t work for the force anymore but i don’t think they like how i do things.” he said. actually he knew they didn’t. diego was reckless and never did as the police were enforced to do them.
“out of everything you were looking for most was a hug from me? damn, cariña, you sure got low expectations on things. but it’s good to see that face again. i’ve missed that dopey smile.” he said pulling away to hit her chin lightly with his hand. “get in, i’ll grab your stuff then we can pick up dinner.” he said moving away to pick up the luggage and put it in the back of his car. he slid in the front seat and drove off the lot only to turn to her. “alright now, what is it you got so far, drew? you said it had to wait…is it monroe?”
—— ▸▸ nancy remembered the day they met . . how she walked into the police department with such optimism. she’d been a small time detective and private investigator but her accolades seemed to always proceed her. she’d been assigned to the problem child of the force, as they called him. many thought after meeting diego that she’d run for the hills . . but for her, the day she met him was the day her world spun. it felt like she could see colors more vibrantly, scents were something she was sure she could taste. where they were opposite, they balanced one another and that’s what made them the perfect team. that’s what just made them perfect for one another . . just not in this lifetime. ❝ the best in the boat ? D . . you’re flattering me. ❞ she mused while exhaling. ❝ of course they didn’t like how you did things . . you were reckless and the fact that you knew you were the best intimidated them. but somehow you didn’t intimidate me in the slightest. i mean . . i thought the leather was a bit much but it grew on me. ❞ she humored even more with a chuckle.
❝ yes . . is there a problem with me missing a hug from you ? ❞ she gave him a warm smile . . her heart going a flutter the moment the spanish language rolled off of his tongue. she almost lost her train of thought as her eyes glanced to his lips . . watching the way they moved with the words he spoke. ❝ this dopey smile missed your rough exterior turned softie on the inside. ❞ they pulled away from one another and she nodded sliding into the front seat. slipping her notebook out of her bag she crossed her legs glancing at the notes as he drove. ❝ D . . when i was in the city, things got worse. ❞ she murmured. ❝ he’s taken it over . . all of it. the whole city belongs to monroe . . and he had help from a lot of the cops we used to work with and trust . . ❞ she looked over at him. ❝ i think . . i have almost everything to pin it on monroe . . but the footage still is missing from the hotel, patch’s gun is still gone and the bullet that . . you know . . somehow it went missing from her evidence box. ❞ swallowing hard she softly licked her lips. ❝ i think i was getting too close to the truth . . before i left to come here . . ❞ she paused not knowing if she should say anymore . . but it was him. she couldn’t hide anything from him. ❝ someone shot into my place . . with me in it. i think they were trying to either send a warning . . or kill me before i got to you. ❞

finally someone who would understand, a familiar face, and someone who felt as broken as he did. diego, happy to find out nancy drew was coming and with information on the case made his heart skip a beat. he couldn’t get too excited, obviously it wasn’t big enough to close everything but she was coming for a reason. so as he sat outside the train station, taking the phone he was talking to the girl from he waited, picking at his hands a bit nervously.
but when he noticed nancy drew coming from the doors of the station he couldn’t help but grin, there was something about a friend that he missed, especially when most of the time with his job he was alone. “finally. they send the red head. you know, drew, you might fit in here, red hair has been something i’ve been seeing like a virus around here.”
—— ▸▸ sitting on the long train ride from the city was probably the more unbearable part. she had too much time to sit and think. nancy was the type of person to need her mind going at all times or she would fret over one thing and overthink. her knee bounced as she glanced out the window, her anxiety bubbling with each town that passed . . meaning they were that much closer to riverdale station. she was trying to hold off, trying to surprise diego . . but she couldn’t hold it off anymore, resulting in her texting him. their friendly banter made her smile . . and her heart ache all at the same time. how could a person have the ability to make you happy and sad ? either way, she knew she had to compose herself and just be the nancy everyone knew and loved. slipping her notebook into her messenger bag, she pulled out a small compact mirror fixing her hair multiple times before giving up and putting it all into a ponytail. her outfit would have to do . . a casual slightly flared out navy dress with a burnt orange faux leather jacket to take the chill off of her arms.
when the train pulled in, she slipped her luggage from the overhead and onward she went seeking the exit of the train. as she made her steps along the long path to the parking area, she felt her heart skip a beat . . soft flutters in her belly as she took small breaths rounding the corner. this was it . . the reunion she was looking forward to for what felt like years. as soon as their eyes met, she felt her lips tug into a huge smile. her legs couldn’t carry her quick enough it seemed. but as soon as he spoke she chuckled. ❝ i know . . they said you were drowning a bit here and needed a lifejacket . . ❞ she mused, shaking her head as he mused about her hair. ❝ shut up and give me a hug D . . ❞ she murmured leaving her luggage to softly move her arms around him. ❝ out of everything . . this right here was what i was looking forward to the most. ❞
the lovers: do you have a crush?
—— ▸▸ ❝ i did . . once. but it wasn’t meant to be. they did end up happy for a while though and that’s all i could have ever wanted for them. ❞

diego: you know what i mean. i can't have you...hurt. i just think you need to take it slow, make sure you have all grounds covered before you go into their place. connected? nah... what would be connected from here to patch?
diego: well, hurry it up, drew. i have'nt gotten to see you in forever. we can talk the details in my apartment. it's...bare boned. just saying.
diego: exactly. bambi is also sickly naive. like a damn toddler. so i bet you ten dollars she will try to talk to me again. make muffins or some crap to say she's sorry. i expected more than minnie mouse.
Nancy: i know...i'll be okay, trust me. if i ever do get hurt...you have full permission to never let me live it down. i'll do my research before i go in..already partially done. just need pictures. never EVER rule out a connection, maybe it's the least unexpected person.
Nancy: okay let me go on to the front of the train and tell the poor train driver to speed it up. actually no need, i think we are pulling into the station now. bare bones apartment? oh boy...this i have to see.
Nancy: well her name is bambi, that speaks volumes. i bet 20 that you'll talk back. and if she happens to bring muffins, face a blueberry one for me.
Nancy: i'll see you in a few D, just need to get my luggage and head off the track.

unfortunately, visits to the police station weren’t unknown to Midge, although this time at least it wasn’t for anything serious. at least, not in her own eyes. considering her place of occupation she was often questioned as a witness, although in this particular circumstance she couldn’t even remember the individual in question. “yep, you bet. call me if you need me,” she threw over her shoulder to the officer still in the room, eyes narrowing a bit as she heard a commotion towards the front desk. “on the other hand, want me to just take a seat and wait until this inevitably becomes my business, too?” the words were commented off-handedly, glancing at the girl who seemed to have a very specific, and important, reason for being there.
—— ▸▸ nancy was used to being underestimated. people tended to take one glance and assume that she was either a child . . or someone that wasn’t to be taken seriously. that was until they found out just who she was. that was the case to be found here . . on her first day in the police department, she was unsure just where she was going. so like a normal person, she asked the guard sitting at the taller front desk. when he assumed she was lost and needed to go, she rolled her eyes taking a small breath. ❝ i take good pride in being kind to others but sir . . you are making it very hard to not break my streak. ❞ she commented while tilting her head. ❝ i told you my last name and where i’m trying to go . . detective drew. ❞ he had expected a man clearly not her, therefore he shrugged her off. looking to the other not too far, she shook her head. ❝ can you believe that ? just because i’m a woman . . he won’t help me get to where i need to go. ❞ slipping a lock of red hair behind her ear she smiled instead. ❝ are you familiar with who’s who here ? i think i might need to speak to a supervisor. ❞
