Thinking about pets comforting whumpees
-a tiny kitten curling up into a little fuzzy ball on a whumpee’s lap
-a big ol saint bernard keeping a stranded character warm while out in the wilderness
-a loyal dog barking to alert rescuers
-a cat trying to make biscuits on a sick character’s blanket
-a cozy lil rabbit sitting with a whumpee because S O F T
-a panicked character calming down by watching their fish
A Guide To Writing A Character With A Hangover:
We’ve all read the guides where we learn how to be drunk, but what about the aftermath? Is the truth really as dramatic as the movies? Let’s not talk about the Hangover, or Hangover 2, or Hangover 3. Let’s talk about real actual effects and feelings you have when you have a bit too much to drink.

On this episode of Rambling About Historical Whump: Pirates!!!
-epic sword fights!
-cursed treasure!
-evading the law!
-cannon blasts!
-stormy seas!
-falling overboard!
-falling from the ropes on the sails! (whatever those are called)
-washing up on a deserted island!
-sea monsters!
-scurvy! (and other old-timey diseases that aren’t as common nowadays)
-seasickness!
I could keep going because MY GOD THERE’S POTENTIAL EVERYWHERE
tw for some spooky animals
Sci-fi whump this, Fantasy whump that, you know what I want to see? Old West whump!! You’ve got:
-stampedes
-train robberies
-railroad work
-gold mining
-crazy weather
-falling from a horse
-rattlesnake/scorpion bites
-difficult terrain
-easily spread diseases
-unfortunate run-ins with a cactus
There’s a goldmine of potential here, am I right? :D
*crickets*
just thinking about snarky whumpees who have a rivalry with their caretakers
“My headache is back”
“Oh, when did that start?”
“When you walked into the room”
and then a side character in the background just starts laughing hysterically
middle aged married lesbians taking care of an accident-prone himbo after he found a new dumbass way to injure himself
also the wives in question keep arguing like married couples do
This is Bagel.
He has a soft spot for soft things. He takes my blanket that I'm ACTIVLY USING off me at 3am so he can make biscuits.
Please appreciate Bagel.
*chanting* BAGEL! BAGEL! BAGEL! BAGEL!
Fun game: Choose a duo of characters (they don’t have to be a couple), and decide who would be more dramatic when sick/injured, and who would be more stoic/trying to hide it. Got it? Now switch their roles - whoever’s the dramatic one is now the stoic one, and vice versa. Helps when you want to create fresh new whumpy scenarios in your head
Here’s and idea I just had:
A lot of times, a character’s Unpleasant Situation™ can lead to another situation. Like, whump leading to more whump, yknow?
Examples:
Having an open wound means it could get infected
Being injured while on the run makes it easier for your pursuer to catch up and do god knows what to you
Being feverish and delirious means you’re more likely to not watch where you’re going and injure yourself
Anyway feel free to do what you want with that information
Humans and aliens trying to treat each other, but they’re so confused <3
Lemme give you some examples:
“Susan, one of your kind claims to have what he calls ‘the flu’, but I cannot locate this ‘flu’ anywhere on his body! Susan, why do you look so disappointed? I am requesting your assistance, human!”
—————
“What do you mean, you have ‘broken’ your ankle? Is it malfunctioning? Do you need a mechanic? Steve, stop laughing, I am serious.”
—————
“You are unable to assist me, human?!”
“I’m a doctor, not a veterinarian! I don’t know how to fix a fractured exoskeleton!”

i’m sort of back
im not dead!!!!!!
I probably won’t be posting too often, but yeah, I’m back
I’ve missed you guys, it’s just that my brain runs out of whumpy ideas pretty easily, so I was sort of stuck for a long time
But rest assured, there will be new posts coming down the pipeline, including fresh new ways to make your characters suffer! :D
quick notice
I’m not dead lol
but I am going to be taking a break for a little while because I have finals to study for, and I’m kinda lacking creative brain cells these days
However I’m not gonna leave you guys with nothing, so here, enjoy this post
Alright, what about, like, a whumpee being cursed into an animal’s body, and then shown off as a pet? Or not being treated kindly by members of their new species? Or maybe your whumpee is a human, but gets attacked by a wild animal. Or maybe something wholesome like a pet sniffing out an injured human whumpee, finding them before the rest of the team, or even just curling up beside a sick/injured character for comfort. Could those last two scenarios be considered “literal pet whump”?
You know what I haven’t seen talked about a lot? Caretakers making Whumpee’s favorite food for them. Like comfort food yknow? Especially if it’s something like warm soup. Like just… getting an injured whumpee into a warm dry home, and then making them food.. or gently waking a sick whumpee and being like, “i made you food”
Ok but what about a human whumpee in a fantasy/scifi setting, collapsing in the wilderness, unable to stand the pain of their injuries any longer. Exhausted, they pass out right there on the ground, looking completely helpless just laying there. Then some members of another species unfamiliar with humans are traveling through that area, when they stumble across said human. They’re not really sure what they are or how to help them, but they sort of adopt them and carry them back to their home. Hours later, Whumpee opens their eyes to find confused and concerned creatures standing over them, speaking in a language they can’t understand. It doesn’t matter who rescued them, though— they’re warm, dry, and safe for now, and they appreciate the kindness of these strange creatures that found them.
