TRANS PEOPLE, ADVICE??

Need advice on how to deal with transphobia towards a patient of mine.

I will only say as much as I am allowed to.

I need advice and I have no clue where to ask, so tumblr it is.

I work as a care worker, I‘m very new in the job and at this place. And I have a patient that happens to be trans. My country isn’t exactly progressive. It’s quite conservative but not overly so if that makes sense. Everyone correctly gendered the patient until finding out they‘re trans and since then everyone has been misgendering the patient. At one point some of my coworkers were talking amongst themselves about how weird, freaky, scary and sad it is that that patient is trans and how they don’t understand the thought behind it at all.

I didn’t voice any agreement but I definitely didn’t push back as much as I would in private. And I don’t exactly know what to do. It feels weird to me to not do anything at all. It’s my patient. And a fellow human being. It feels wrong.

Could anyone help me by maybe telling me what I could/should do?
