I would actually go as far as to say that MOST abuse is unintentional. I think most people will go through their lives without ever experiencing intentional abuse. People are abusive because they're selfish, because they're stressed, because they care more about what society thinks they should do than the impacts of their actions on their children and partners, because they think what they're doing is correct, because they've made it make sense in their own heads, because they think they can fix their victims, they think they can fix their relationships, they think they can stop you from leaving, they think they can make you a better partner to them, they think that means you need to do what they want. We've sort of constructed mental illness in a way that doing this shit to other people counts as a form of mental illness because it is anti social behavior in the literal sense— it is behavior that causes social harm.
I don't say any of this to excuse it. I think everyone needs to be more aware of this because if you think abuse has to be intentional you will never realize you are capable of abusive behavior. You will never realize you are being shitty to the people you love, because YOU know what you mean, YOU know you don't mean any harm. But you're doing harm. You need to pay attention to the impact you have on other people, and you need to do it all the time, Especially when you feel least capable of doing so. Sorry! You live in a society. Get your head out of your ass.
I humbly offer this contribution.

ok that post about the right wing dudes wanting boy concubines...can you enlighten me as to what the fuck is actually happening in the minds of these men because it's breaking my brain??!!
The connection between Donald Trump and Jeffrey Epstein is no accident, but reveals a deep logic at the heart of reactionary politics.
In the fantasy, the father protects the family from a dangerous world—and especially from the sexual aggression of dangerous Others. But the truth is that most sexual abuse—most rape—most pedophilia—is not committed by strangers. It's committed by people you know. Trusted authority figures. Fathers and uncles, priests and pastors. And here's the thing. If this is the fantasy that consumes you, it is easier to enact with kids. To paraphrase Hegel, for this kind of predator, the thing about teenagers is that they are just adult enough to be worth desiring, but not adult enough to stand up to you. Fundamentally, children are easier to manipulate. Children are easier to control. Children are easier to groom. Reactionaries believe that women exist to be ruled over by men and bear them children. Of course adult women—and especially educated adult women—will have their own ideas about this state of affairs. But a child you can shape, you can make totally dependent on you, emotionally, socially, financially. What else is "headship" but an argument for pedophilia?
I agree that a culture of blindly trusting male authority figures (and making taboo any discussion or understanding of sexuality) seems straightforwardly counterproductive to protecting children. I agree that conservatives are big into fathers being the boss of the nuclear family and clergy being obeyed, thereby playing into that trap. And it does seem likely to me that there are more abusers among elite Republicans than elite Democrats, though I haven't fact-checked that bit.
But a lot about this article is very sketchy.
I don't think people are resistant to this theory because they are avoidant. People enthusiastically accuse their enemies of being pedos all the time, actually! It's a righteous anger button that people and their content algorithms can't seem to press enough!
And that's why I'm immediately skeptical of any analysis that starts off talking about who is or is not "a pedophile". Picking out the secret irredeemable witches from the rest of us who are fundamentally incapable of harm is a lurid spectacle, not an effective strategy for protecting children. It's a perspective that gets people pedo-jacketing trans women, among other problems.
And going from "men should be obeyed" to "molesting kids is good" is a very big ideological step that the article doesn't adequately make a case for! I buy that conservatives' preferred way of doing things is accidentally harmful in this particular way, but "Pedocons are a menace that seek to molest kids," is a phrasing that suggests that conservatives believe what they do specifically in order to justify raping children, and I don't think that's true!
I see what they're getting at with the Great Replacement connection. The dividing line between an archetypal grooming scenario and the Mormon church deliberately trying to get their members, especially women, marrying young and being less well educated in order to make more babies is mostly just the somewhat arbitrarily-delineated age of majority. The manipulations are essentially the same. But gosh, conservative religious people are clearly very invested in that arbitrary line, even if they get evasive and hypocritical when it's their religion's priests who got caught crossing it.
I agree in exercising caution about this but from my perspective the line between demanding obedience and then abusing said obedience does not seem like such a big jump. It's an extremely, extremely common type of situation.
Maybe they don't explicitly say something like "molesting kids is good" but they still conveniently build the contexts in which it is most likely to happen in real life and then shift the focus towards comparatively rare "stranger danger" types of scenarios about minorities.
Also, if you're like me and see spanking children (especially on bare buttocks) as sexual battery - which is what it is when you do it to an adult - then one of the most common enforcement mechanisms for this obedience look pretty bad on their own.
I think it's well-justified to see red flags for abuse (sexual or otherwise) when people demand unquestioning obedience and are super invested in their "right" to pull down their child's pants and hit them in the ass to punish and humiliate them.

help me make life less painful to live?
hi :3 im a multiply disabled 20 y/o trans girl. im moderate autistic and chronically suicidal- due to conditions out of my control. i had to drop out of high school, and in my country that makes jobs way less available- im lucky enough to work fulltime but it pays very little.
im going to get my adult leavers cert, but that requires time taken off work i cant really afford to take :/
theres a huge variety of things that would make life less painful rn- disability supports, furniture more suited to my chronic pain, etc
i know its a lot to ask, but i really need help making things less Actively Hostile to me- hopefully this is the last time i have to ask for help! things are looking up once i can afford to take the adult diploma!
i need about 1500 USD to make things actually livable. this will go towards things like medical care and accommodations and helping with things while i get the adult matric.

Please help my friend okay?
im probably doing a bad job of describing how urgent this is :'3 im in pain every day and suicidally stressed from being unable to support myself and the disability related chronic pain abab
What always gets me about learning about settler colonialism is how once you learn about it you cannot unsee the violence to the land itself. My home state was previously nearly 100% wetlands, apart of the wider Ohio river valley whose biodiversity supported such large populations of hundreds of different species that many contemporary source from settlers describe it as like the garden of Eden.
The Indigenous people who farmed and hunted here (and still farm and hunt in what land they have been able to keep and reclaim) were able to grow miles of upon miles of crops with multiple harvests a year, encouraging this biodiversity by creating forest gardens with incredible amounts of food from staples like corn and squash to local fruits like pawpaws to European imports like apples alongside controlled burns which allowed fields and buffalo ranges to expand.
Nowadays my state is known almost exclusively for its fields of nothing but corn and soy beans. Driving through in between the comparatively small cities you'll see nothing but fields where the plethora of different trees and plants were chopped down mile by mile, the remaining wetlands drained and flattened, and the rich black soils robbed of their nutrients through decades upon decades of monocrop agriculture now preserved through the life blood of petrochemical fertilizers which destroy the surrounding environment.
This process was done mile by mile as the tens of thousands of Indigenous people were killed and displaced by settlers and the US army, the land measured and sold acre by acre to white settlers who raped the land as described, filling the pockets of wealthy land speculators (like George Washington and Thomas Jefferson) who bought the land directly from the government in schemes so corrupt historians have dedicated entire careers to mapping out their dramas.
It's like learning about commodity fetishism and suddenly seeing hundreds of strangers in the products that surround you. Once you learn how the land was destroyed for profit you'll never look at the miles of fields or the cracks in the concrete of buildings built on wetlands or the stench of now obsolete canals built solely for a once boat-dependent economy with no care for the environment the same.
By the way it's like. Really fucked how society's thoughts on epilepsy is just "get over it." Seizures can cause permanent brain damage. Seizures can kill people. Seizures hurt like hell. Allow me to reiterate that seizures can kill people. And you're just gonna casually put flashing lights, a common trigger for seizures in your advertisement, in your animation meme, in your edit, on your billboards, without even thinking about putting a simple disclaimer? That's unbelievable. Your little anime edit could deadass cost a life and you're not gonna put a warning because it's "inconvenient" or "people like that shouldn't be on the internet" (ableist) (the problem exists outside the internet also). Or you'll give insufficient ones like putting it in the captions or only giving like one second before the flashing lights appear, meaning that the trigger's already in motion before anyone who needs the warning can read it and save themselves from literal physical danger.
We need to start commenting under other people's posts about how to properly warn for flashing lights and eyestrain. We need to be emailing and calling companies about their possibly triggering advertisements that could induce seizures. We need to stop tolerating ableism and start speaking up for the more vulnerable.
Also, stop putting epilepsy warnings. That's like saying "warning: schizophrenia" on a post including unreality or "warning: dyslexia" on a post with a typing quirk. First off, the disability mentioned isn't the only group of people that this could trigger. Second, it doesn't truly get the message across and instead makes it worse for those with the disability-- scrolling through the epilepsy tag on Tumblr should get you to view the content of other epileptic people, but no, you just get a bunch of flashing lights and eyestrain, even though you could instead tag for, oh I dunno, flashing lights and eyestrain.
Anyways this Disability Pride, and for every month that comes after, think about epileptic people and others who are triggered by flashing lights/eyestrain. Happy pride to those who experience seizures too frequently due to the unaccommodating and ableist societies we live in!
*Urgent*
My bf and I are trying to pull together money for first and last on an apartment as soon as we possibly can
Both of us are in less than ideal situations, with me living precariously with family and him having no fixed place to live
We have a place lined up, but we need to pay first and last month's rent in order to secure it, and we need to do so as fast as possible
If anyone can help out, we take donations over PayPal or e-transfer (you can DM for e-transfer info)
I do writing commissions on Ko-fi, where you can also donate
We have to put together a total of 3200 CAD so obviously this is pretty stressful, and any and all help would be much appreciated!
I'm going to update this post with both the amount of any donations we receive, and the amounts of our paychecks when we get them, so the total raised will reflect the complete amount of money that we have set aside as opposed to only showing what's been donated (to avoid any confusion). I also applied for a government assistance program for first and last, which would take care of about 1000-1600 CAD, so I'll include that if I am able to get it
2100/3200 CAD
We're still working to pay back the money we borrowed to pay first and last, but that's very difficult to do while keeping up with rent
If you can help, it means the world to us
2285/3200 CAD
If anyone can help, we're really trying to pay this back as soon as we possibly can, but keeping up with rent at the same time is making it difficult to do so, and I'm back in college so I'm working less shifts
Any and all support means the world! 🩷
We're more than two-thirds of the way to paying this off, but unfortunately, donations have dried up. Even just a little bit of help means a lot to us, especially seeing as the amount owed has already risen by 150 CAD due to the time it's taking us to pay this off
I'm barely getting enough shifts to cover rent, so we haven't been able to make payments on the debt lately
Please help if you're able to, it really does make a huge difference to us! ❤️

microsoft games are a bds boycott target, and because both bethesda + obsidian are owned by microsoft, this includes the games published by them.
microsoft is gonna further profit from a new virtual playground of ~post-apocalyptic bombed out towns in the desert~ while contributing to creating bombed out apocalyptic conditions in gazan towns, by collaborating with israel on so many fronts that bds calls microsoft the most complicit company in palestinian genocide.
and nostalgia-baited fans will still buy it bc playing pretend in a virtual world thats a knockoff of what real life people are currently facing – a virtual world funded by that very suffering of those real life people – is more important to them than simply playing a different game
anyway, to make this rant productive – if you have the means to send donations to palestine, heres some community initiatives:
Mona’s community aid initiative – verified by el-shab-hussein
The Sameer Project – has a british partner org, so UK folks can donate with gift aid here with no transfer fees
Revive Gaza Farmlands – has a canadian partner org, so canadians can donate via direct bank transfers with no transfer fee
Crips for eSims for Gaza – canda-based, so canadian e-transfers saves on transaction fees
