Mixology
I’ve learned that vodka and heartaches don’t mix well It leaves you with a hangover that lingers until who knows when Stays even though the throbbing early morning headache has already stopped I don’t know if it’s just me But my body is wired to wake up early whenever I can Even when I’ve drunk myself silly
Funny... Coz I only drink ‘til I’m sleepy. Never a complete blackout. I’ve always had control of every shot I took But this time, you were a habit I need not shove down my throat A ringing in my ears egging me on, “Chug! Chug! Chug!”
This time, I did drink myself to the moon Crash-landed back on soft pillows the morning after Without memories to recall Except summer rain on my cheeks waking me later than usual With the taste of barf trying to crawl out of my mouth Like the words I’ve long since kept from you... The flavored beer I spilt last night. And the only thing I can remember. Sweet and fruity with good intentions But still a whole lot of bitter vomit. A great effin mess!
I always knew from the beginning that you were an absinthe illusion A concoction of my own making Green poison both shaken and stirred Served in glass with lips of chocolate liquor One I was willing to take You were gin on the rocks so cold and clear I mistakenly thought I could handle it with just a ring of salt or sugar.
So I told the bartender, “Sir! Keep it coming!” Serve this fantasy of mine on frozen cocktail glasses Spray it with just a hint of lemon So my lips are numb and I cannot breathe in the smoke slowly suffocating my soul
Wait! Better yet… Just serve me seltzer water in a wine glass instead. Splash it on my face Maybe all the dampness will finally give me clarity And wake me from this crazy drunken dream. Salute!
