Interfection: A Tale of Two Boys Interfection is what we define as the interaction that leads to infection. Something that takes hold of you and slowly, but surely becomes a part of who and what you are. Orahael Moru was a brat, he was spoiled and used to getting his way at any cost. He had a family that cared about him but he held no regard for himself, let alone others. Carelessly he went from one easy target to the next, sleeping with anyone attractive enough to warrant a second glance from him, regardless of their gender and without caring to know anything about them. Unbeknownst to him, his actions and behaviour could easily be attributed to the fact that he was secretly yearning for something more. Paien Myeong was lost, a child forgotten and discarded by his parents for reasons that he didn't quite understand or believe that he could control. His love for the parents he hardly even knew, save for what he read in the infrequent letters received from his mother, was unrivaled while he drowned himself in misery and self-inflicted hatred. They could do no wrong, while the fault sat squarely upon his shoulders. Surely, he would think, there must be something wrong with me for them to abandon me. They lived two completely different lives and had two completely different views of the world that they lived in. However, fate saw fit to put them both in the same place, where they would eventually collide and come to realize just how much can truly be seen, simply by opening up to a new perspective. The fact that Earth has almost 8 billion people and most of us struggle to find even 10 good friends doesn’t bode well for a society that depends on each other.
As others have noted in the past, Danny DeVito not only directed Matilda (and played her dad), but he and Rhea Perlman (DeVito’s wife at the time and Matilda’s mum in the movie) basically looked after Mara Wilson because Mara’s mother was in hospital with terminal cancer at the time of filming (She died during post production work, and it wasn’t until years later Mara discovered that Danny had taken an advanced (not quite completed) copy of “Matilda” to the hospital so that her mum could watch it before she passed.)
When Mara mentioned that she was feeling nervous about the dancing to “Little Bitty Pretty One” sequence, it was DeVito’s idea to have the ENTIRE cast and crew join in and dance too (off camera) so she wouldn’t feel self-conscious, apaprently even the craft services folks joined in, and the cameraman shooting the scene did a bit of a shuffle, but not too much because it would mess with the camera shot)
Not sure who knows this already but 6 months ago, Denver started having mental health professionals respond to mental health incidents instead of police. Some early data:
0 arrests were made among 748 incidents
41% of people were taken to a shelter or hospital
0 incidents were violent
6x a day, police were freed up to work on more serious criminal activity
“Defund the police” materializes through progressive steps like this. We need to pressure more law enforcement agencies to follow suit.
