So I’ve been quiet for a long time: things haven’t been good for me since my attempt at farming fell through, and they’ve not gotten better. So I decided to add a few albums to my CD collection. This time we’re going back in time to the first era of @nightwish. I’m not usually one to recant things I have said in the past (stand by your word, and whatnot), but I find myself now having to do that with some things I have said before. This era of the band is good: @tarjaofficial was really at the top of her game this early on: I have hopes that, since Oceanborn was good, Wishmaster will be good as well. Very influential music. My gardening attempt: a complete failure. 😔 Kind of like my life. I set out to do something, put in all the work, but then circumstances beyond my control come in and destroy all hope of success. I don’t know why I’m telling you this. All I hear is “unless it shows flowers, it doesn’t deserve water”. Decided to throw something together for myself. So I made shallow-fried #worthingtonfoods choplets with panko breadcrumbs (and just a hint of paprika). They turned out great, except two got burned on the bottom. But I had leftover beaten eggs from my breading, so I did what is called a #progamermove. I took the oiled pan off the fire and put it on a cold stovetop. Then I dumped my leftover egg into the pan while it was off the fire but still hot, and just flipped it over. Okay we need to talk about…#oatcakes Because apparently nobody in the Western Hemisphere knows about them. This boggles my mind to no end! Cakes of this kind were known as far back as Bible times: they were so common in Northern Europe that JRR Tolkien wrote THREE variations of them into #thehobbit and #lordoftherings. THREE!!! Seriously, how has this never been reproduced in the West except as a flapjack? Were the 🇲🇽 too busy using tortillas as edible plates to make something like this? Some photos from today’s walk by “the Shire.” No, it’s not spring: but the rains have brought out the greenery. Fern fiddleheads are popping out, and the moisture has brought out a few mushrooms too. The white growth on those tree trunks looks too soft and gilled to be regular moss or lichen. For a bonus, the old face in stone is still there. Some folks cleared away the bushes around him, and it seems like they beat a nice little path up toward him.
