One Shots
Watching and Waiting (1,059 words)
At some point in his musings, he’d started watching the steady rise and fall of the blankets instead. The soothing rhythm of Suo breathing, the only undeniable proof that he was still alive. Haruka hated that he knew he wouldn’t sleep well, or at all, that night. He hated, but not really, that he was scared if he slept that he’d wake up to find Suo gone. He almost desperately wanted to be able to see Suo’s eye and hear him laugh.
At the same time Haruka didn’t want it. Suo needed to sleep, to heal. Suo could be annoying and stupid when he was better.
Persimmon Premonitions (1,118 words)
“Did you know,” Suo breaks the silence, his silence, suddenly and startles Haruka. “That persimmons are believed to offer protection from tigers?”
“You makin’ crap up again?” Haruka asks flatly.
Mouths Can’t Be Pretty (1,754 words)
Kiryu’s smile is very pleased. “Sakura-chan, what do you think?”
Haruka thinks that the press of Suo against him is warm, is nice. Haruka decides, face flushing lightly, that he’ll play along.
What Your Made For (1,397 words)
Suo wasn’t a person made for sadness, in Haruka’s opinion. It wasn’t natural to see Suo without a smile. Haruka just wanted to find a way to ease whatever melancholy was clinging to Suo.
Series
Postcards to I Love You (1/? works)
Make the Pain Alright (12,830 words) chapters 10/10
Haruka never would have guessed a half-regretted agreement with Nirei would have him opening a door that he’d thought shut years ago. Or that something as simple as a postcard could have been the key.
Of course, things can’t be easy. They never were before and it seems that the one consistency with Suo Hayato is he’s a bastard that does what ever he wants.
Sun Glitter (1/? works)
Mamoris (8,460) chapters 4/6
The phone had crackled with the unsteady connection and Nirei’s breathing. He was talking so fast that every time he was forced to stop for breath it came loud and staticky through Haruka’s speaker. He wished he had paid closer attention to what Nirei had told him now.
He had come down to the beach to do some collecting and maybe a little fishing in the tide pools. He would go to check, even if he walked away empty handed. Today the tide pools looked like something closer to a murder scene.

Forget-Me-Not (10,645 words) chapters 8/?
There’s a new person in town and all the whispered gossip around town speaks of them like a prodigal son returned. Fond eyes above murmuring mouths that say things like took over the old lady Matsumoto’s flower shop or wonder if that group of Furin boys knows. It makes Mitsuki’s skin stretch across his shoulders and knuckles in ways that itch, that hurt. A roll of his shoulders, the hum of a catchy tune on his lips, and the day goes on. It’s time to open the parlor.
Three hours in, one and a half pieces down, and his phone vibrates on the counter. Mitsuki ignores it, even though it proceeds to go off several more times. When he gets to his phone forty five minutes later, there’s a plethora of notifications. There always is, if he’s honest. It’s a pair of messages from a certain nosy bottle blonde that catches and holds his attention - that hits the damn holding back all the thoughts, questions, and memories he’s been holding off on since he first overheard the news.
Nirei Akihiko - 4:16 p.m.
He’s back.
Winds of Change (7,012 words) chapters 3/?
The first time that Haruka hears about the Bofurin people, it’s while working on some old as dirt and entirely cool antique car’s engine. The car was owned by the old man that Tsubaki knew and had asked him to look over. Nirei had tagged along because he was always interested in old shit and knew that a working Haruka was a perfect captive audience. Neither of them had realized that the whole thing had been a test.
Somewhere, Someone (4,895 words)chapters 3/3
Somewhere, Someone is searching for someone exactly like you.
Every day is the same thing, the same routines. Haruka Sakura is bored, but not really looking to change anything. He likes his job, his routine, his life. He just wants a little excitement every now and then.
Then, unexpectedly, into his shop, his routine, his life… walks Suo Hayato.
Like Flowers (1,081 words) chapters 1/?
While out on a job for Bofurin, Haruka Sakura winds up with a nasty curse. The only issue is they need a witch capable of breaking it and Makochi has none.
Things take a turn when Kiryu’s friend tries his hand at removing the curse and they find out that it bites back.
Obviously Anya is adopted. We all know this. She knows this. She loves her family but knows it is incredibly fragile.
But unlike most adoption stories (say Natsume Yuujinchou) Anya is not adopted into a loving functional family who's main goal is to support and love her until she heals from all the hurt she has been through.
Because Everyone in their family is adopted.
Yor enters thinking she is entering an existing family dynamic of a man and his daughter. She is the step mother, eagerly wanted but a definite outsider. She does not know about how they lost Loid's first wife. They both Never mention her but Anya clearly has Huge feelings about her Mommy that she cannot touch. Because Loid refuses to acknowledge her. Which means she's not allowed to.
She's a wife brought in to solve a problem. The fact she adores Anya and loves Loid (eventually) doesn't make her any less of an outsider from her perspective. To Yor she's the adopted family member.
Meanwhile Loid, the one who brought them all together almost instantly finds himself on the outside of the family. He works too much and doesn't make it home for dinner frequently. He struggles to connect with his 'daughter' and wife. Can't understand either of them despite constant efforts. Something incredibly distressing for him.
Yor instantly connects with this child when he struggled to hold her hand in public. In his eyes Yor and Anya are a family and he is the outsider only there for the mission. The man who is destined to Not be there. He too often fills the role of the outside child brought into a happy family. One he constantly feels he is fumbling or failing. (If I'm not good, if i'm not perfect- my family will leave me. So I have to be. I have to figure out how to be better)
They are a family of adopted members all holding so tightly to each other. Each one of them chooses the others over and over again. Struggles against their own limitations and fears to be a part of a family they're all terrified to really call their own.
But it is that choice that makes them a family. Not blood or marriage or any certificate. That they all keep trying to be a family to the others. I'll be a good girl and study hard Papa. I'll be a good wife, I'll play my role well so don't abandon me. I'll be a good father and husband, I will try to be a good husband and father if you both will just stay with me. Please. I will figure out how.
and we know it's too big for suo because neither bacchus or rakta have this problem!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THEY ARE DWARFING SUO'S HANDS SPECIFICALLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The European Union already forced Apple to abandon its proprietary charging port and adopt USB-C across its entire iPhone lineup. It just did something bigger. A new EU mandate requires every smartphone sold in Europe including Apple devices to feature a battery that can be replaced by the user without specialist tools, without voiding a warranty, and without sending the device to a manufacturer approved service center. Batteries must maintain a minimum capacity threshold after a set number of charge cycles and replacement parts must remain available for up to ten years after a model goes on sale.
The consumer electronics industry built its current business model around batteries that degrade, cannot be replaced at home, and create a natural upgrade cycle every two to three years. The EU just legislated that model out of existence in the world's largest regulatory market.
Apple, Samsung, and every other manufacturer now faces a choice between redesigning their devices for the European market or accepting that their current hardware architecture is no longer legally sellable there.
Given that no company walks away from European consumers voluntarily the phones are going to change and once they change for Europe the rest of the world will ask why theirs still do not.
Once when I was in undergrad, someone described something as “problematic” in class and our professor was like, “That’s cool, but ‘problematic’ doesn’t really mean anything. It means that the thing you’re describing has a problem, and in and of itself that’s not bad. Art, especially, should always have problems, or else it’s not interesting and not art, either. It sounds like you’re trying to say that this is bad, but you don’t want to say ‘bad.’ Is that right?”
So from then on whenever one of us called something problematic, he would make us talk it out until we could name the “bad” thing we were hinting at. In this particular class, 7/10 it was some type of oppression, and the remainder was like, “I’m uncomfortable because this is very new/confusing/pushing boundaries that made me feel safe.”
Once we stopped calling things “problematic” and stopping at that, class got way more interesting and... we all had to say, like, “that’s racist” or “that’s misogynistic” or “ew capitalism gross” out loud, which a lot of us had never done in a classroom before. Or we had to be like, “Uhhh... I’m not sure what’s so bad?” and confront our own beliefs and that was maybe even more useful.
Anyway. Whenever I see the word problematic, I can’t help but think of this professor being like, “Good starting point, now let’s get specific.” I think when we have to commit to saying “that’s ___” it requires a lot more careful thought about the truth and impact and complexities of whatever we’re claiming. Sometimes there really is some bullshit afoot, and also sometimes it’s art, and it should be full of problems, because that’s what art is.
#'this is present in the text' is often a good first step #but those second and third ones (naming it; describing its function) are vital (via @elucubrare)
Love the different reactions Sakunirei have for Suo leaving.
Suo tried to hurt Nirei emotionally and physically so Nirei could accept his excuses for ghosting the rest of Furin and Nirei was the one who actually became a handful for Suo (reading Suo's expressions + conflicted words/actions like a book). Nirei proved to us he is quite mentally fortified and he can hold his own even if it's a losing battle for him. Funny since Suo once deemed fighting Sakura would be a hassle hence why he never officially accepted Sakura's issued challenge.
Then we have Sakura who isn't used to this level of abandonment. People have openly told him they didn't want him around (his father) so he always knew where he stood with people, but here comes Suo breaking down the walls, getting close, becoming some he can fight alongside with back to back taking on foes together. And to top it off, Suo doesn't even have the guts to properly say goodbye to him - only to Nirei. That's heartbreaking. Suo may not have fought Sakura but he emotionally hurt him all bc Suo thought he was doing what's best (cuz remember they all only 15 so they're not taking this well, the Furin trio all miserable)
And I know I've seen some comments (not on tumblr) where people are thinking Nirei got sidelined for how close Suosaku are but imho Sakura's reaction is highlighted more bc we know that Sakura is used to having no one in his corner and now to have lost Suo in this way is deeply triggering for a lonely neglected child like Sakura. Secondly Nirei accepted somethings up with Suo, he is the sole witness to Suo's body language and expressions, and he doesn't seem as angry but moreso confused as to why Suo did them like this. Sakura is dealing with his former vice captain Suo resigning out of the blue after assuming Suo would eventually pop back up to hang with them like normal. Nirei already suspected Suo was being weird pre Suo leavin so he had more time to process Suo's decision.
I love all the boys and they're all hurting but I must admit, Sakura needs the most attention bc he's just not as functional with sudden change like Suonirei is. Especially when Sakura finally started feeling at ease with his life having a community he trusts and then it becoming fractured like that. It's startling to the nervous system
Can see Suo freaking out at how attached he got to Furin while knowing it was all a temporary engagement bc he reacted to intensely over Nirei getting hurt during Keel fight. Sakura reacted too, however due to recent chapters its clear Suo wasn't supposed to "lost control" when attacking. And with his Red Chanpuru arc, we see his roots by how he treats the kids training and the people that greet him. They depend on him and in retrospect Nirei depended on Suo to defend him as the non fighter of Furin. So yeah Suo scolded Nirei when Nirei ran off and got hurt bc back in Suo's home its implies everyone knows to follow Suo's lead and Nirei didn't which threw Suo's usual calmness out the window. He got dis-regulated that someone weaker than him got hurt under his watch and as an officer of RC/Vice captain of Furin that messed Suo up
And it was a reminder that he shouldn't have went so hard for Nirei who caused the issue in the 1st place (glad Nirei learned his lesson tho and started training) when Nirei usually stays behind Suo
Now I'm picturing Suo slowly descending as he tries to cut off from Furin after he fraternized with them so much
