Pode não ser surpresa alguma quando digo que não sou propriamente fã da DC, seja em filmes ou na televisão. Já o disse antes mas sinto que existe uma fraca humanização dos personagens, como se fosse suposto gostarmos destes heróis porque têm dinheiro ou superpoderes ou são quase deus e está feito. Porreiro. Mas não é suficiente para mim.

Eu preciso de algo mais, algo que vá mais na onda de Wonder Woman do que propriamente do Batman ou Superman. Ela pode ter poderes, mas há uma evolução nela que é humana e que se nota um crescimento emocional que nenhum dos outros conseguiu ter. Grunhir não é um sentimento.

Também não é surpresa alguma que exista este Birds of Prey, muito menos quando a única coisa que se aproveitou de Suicide Squad foi a própria Harley Quinn. Apesar de tresloucada, ela tem a dose ideal de loucura que todos nós gostaríamos de ter e não deixa de ser humana, o que facilita na criação de empatia com a mesma. E por muito que tentem adicionar mais alguns personagens femininos à mistura, todas elas bastante bem conseguidas, as atenções acabam por se prender bastante na personagem de Margot Robbie que continua a saber dar vida a esta personagem e a tornou num ícone cinematográfico instantâneo.

E é disto que a DC precisa, de um pouco de loucura, de um pouco de humanização, de não se levar demasiado a sério quando não precisa… Aliás, Wonder Woman, ainda que com um tom diferente, conseguiu fazer isso bastante bem, equilibrando os momentos mais sérios com algum humor. Em Birds of Prey o humor vai mais longe mas consegue também o equilíbrio perfeito para a personagem e a história que está a contar.

It may not be that surprising when I say I’m not exactly a fan of DC, either on movies or television. I’ve mentioned it before but I feel there’s a lack of humanity in their characters, like we’re supposed to relate to this heroes just because they have money or superpowers or are god-like beings and that’s it. Cool. But not enough for me.

I need something more, more Wonder Woman than Batman or Superman. Even though she has powers, there’s growth in her, a human side, an emotional development that none of the others managed to have. Grunting is not a feeling.

There’s no surprise as well that Birds of Prey got made, even less when the only good thing coming out of Suicide Squad was Harley Quinn herself. She may be nuts, but it’s the right amount of nuts, the amount anyone would like to have, which makes it easier for us to empathize with her. And they can try to add some more female characters, every single one of them great in their own way, but all the attentions turns to the amazing character Margot Robbie brought to life and that turned her into an instant movie icon.

This is exactly what DC needs, a little bit of crazy, a little bit of humanization, not taking themselves so seriously when they don’t need to… In fact, Wonder Woman got it exactly right, with a different tone but managed to balance every serious moment with some lighter ones. In Birds of Prey, the humor goes a bit further but it also manages to balance everything just right for the character they have and the story they want to tell.
