I said I was going to fluffpost and ONLY that, but first: i loveeee when Simon genuinely believes that Ryland is a god or an angel or some other kind of mythical creature who has been sent to care for him. I love when he's like "this is the perfect man, therefore he is better than a man, therefore he is not a man at all, because I am a man and he is so wonderful and I Am Such A Bad Simon etcetcetc

I read a fic once (which I can no longer find boooo) where Simon thought that Ryland was a fallen angel and that he was ferrying Simon to hell aboard the Hail Mary. chef's kiss. he thought he had died and was being sentenced to eternal torment for blowing up Filament Station, and his thoughts were still all about how gorgeous Ryland was and how gentle he was being. i love when he's just totally amazed by Ryland's dorky self, because everyone and everything was so serious and so violent on Eden, and Ryland is like nothing he's ever seen before

and ofc, Ryland being the sweet person that he is, he never once thinks of himself as being better than Simon. As a matter of fact, he thinks of Simon as a perfect equal, and he's head over heels for him, just full to the brim with total pure adoration for his bloodied mutant coolguy eelhusband. but Ryland is so very normal and vanilla about it because he grew up normal-style on Earth.

but Simon grew up in a cult. Simon is from Eden. Simon would genuinely let that man kill him if Ryland ever even vaguely indicated that he would like to. love that shit. I need more Mentally Strange Simon in my life. he has to get even weirder than he was before they welded him into the Iron Lung. I want that man to have a very warped perception of his place in the world and i want him to express that warped perspective to Ryland as earnestly and bluntly as possible. I want him to say some truly unhinged shit to try and flirt

also I think it's funny when the aforementioned weird earnestness causes Rocky to beef with Simon & assume the human from the blood ocean is going to do something inappropriate to his human lol. shotgun talk Rocky is among my favorite tropes
